25.01.2022 "I share my experience because it is so important for women to talk about these things. To share stories with one another not so that we can feel as if what we are going through is normal - it isn’t - but it is common, and by sharing we can feel less alone." The period after childbirth is a wild ride, and it's something we need to talk about. It's a time where different hormones rise and dip, and your body tries to heal as sleep deprivation reaches a whole new level. Check o...ut Cortina's blog post on the common feelings of baby blues, what it feels like, and what to do if you think you're experiencing a postpartum mood disorder. https://askcaia.com//the-postpartum-mood-disorders-no-one- #askcaia #postpartum #postpartumjourney #postpartumperiod #postpartumrecovery #babyblues #selfcare #postpartumdepression #panda #fourthtrimester

25.01.2022 Let’s talk maternal health. The data is alarming. Women of colour are more likely to experience complications of pregnancy and birth and at the extreme even death. Black and Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander women are disproportionately impacted - being 2 to 3 times more likely to experience such complications. Join us on Wednesday, 2nd December for an important conversation exploring data highlighting #disparities in #maternalhealth outcomes across populations.... You can expect a panel of empathetic and supportive medical doctors, who will be shedding light on biases in #healthcare, sharing stories, answering questions and offering pragmatic tips for patients during what can often be an incredibly vulnerable stage of life. If you have ever felt that you were not being heard by your doctor, that your health concerns were being ignored or dismissed, or if you are concerned and just want to learn more the panel will be available to support and provide advice. Please help spread the word with your respective networks! Registration required. Link in bio.

25.01.2022 January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. Early changes in cervical cells rarely have symptoms, which is why it's important for women aged 2574 to have a cervical screening test two years after their last Pap test, and then once every five years. Cervical Cancer is preventable with proper screening, so make sure you receive regular tests. It's the perfect time to ask your friends, wives, mothers and daughters, "Have you had a cervical screening test yet?"... *As of 1 December 2017, the Pap smear test has been replaced with the new Cervical Screening Test.

25.01.2022 Tis the season of giving and celebration As the holiday preparations and demands build up, we may find ourselves feeling stressed and unable to continue with scheduled activities. So, before we leap into the next few weeks of fun, here are some helpful tips to avoid holiday burnout: Delegate Christmas tasks and ask for help. Communicate openly and don't be afraid to say "no". Get enough sleep. We can easily get swept up in early mornings and late nights, so make sure ...to recharge your batteries and get a good 8 hours of sleep at least! Recognise your signs of stress and use techniques to help you relax. Take deep breaths, go for a walk or try some meditation. Do what works for you. Give yourself permission - to feel as you do and to make to make the choices you need. If you need a break, allow yourself to have some me-time. See more

12.01.2022 Let’s (meno)Pause and Chat. We are the first generation that will be menopausal for half of our lives. It’s time to break the chain of shame many women feel during this life transition. Too many women work hard to hide their symptoms, making them feel alone, confused and irritable because they are uncomfortable with sharing what they’re going through. This week, we encourage you to pause and share your menopause experience with your friends and family. Gina, our menopause spe...cialist and life coach, offers her best tips to change the conversation from secrecy to confidence. Having open discussions is so important to helping younger generations prepare for their own journey ahead, and also provides support for a menopausal mum! Haven’t experienced menopause yourself? Now’s the time to ask your mum or an older woman in your life what their experience was like. Chances are, they’d be more than happy to share their menopause story. At Caia, we know how confusing this time may be. Our practitioners are here to listen and help you through all of life’s stages. 12.01.2022 At Caia, we are building the future of women’s health, now. Purposefully and intentionally. Smashing stigmas, creating community, and making it easier for you to get support across all life stages. Why? Well, like many of you, we are frustrated by the lack of information that exists in women's health and how hard it is to get access to practitioners who can help. We’ve also had one too many run ins with the patriarchy** and are tired of the stigma that prevents open conversat...ions around menstrual pain, fertility, and the hardships that come along with postpartum and the transition to parenthood. We feel too many women are suffering in silence - not to mention the massive impacts on mental health, sex, and relationships that came along with that. We know there has to be a better way and it starts with better conversations, better support, and a better way to access care. Head to www.askcaia.com and sign up to our newsletter to stay in the loop and to be the first in line for our soon be released app which will give you get access to experts at your fingertips! **Patriarchy a culture and a system which deprioritises, dismisses, shushes, shoos and brushes women’s health concerns away as normal or too taboo to talk about. #enough

11.01.2022 Happy Friday friends! As another week comes to an end, it's so important to wind down, relax and make time for yourself In particular, women often face an - the "worry work" of being in charge of a never ending to-do-list in managing a family or household. It's the constant remembering, organising, multi-tasking, preventing, fixing and reminding that is a major strain on wellbeing, causing many mums to feel burnt out. ...? Taking time for self-care is a tough thing to do as a mama, so we encourage you to take just 10-15 minutes of each day to take care of yourself. Have a cup of tea in silence, read a book, do a quick exercise video while your child is sleeping, or have a nap yourself! Do what works for you. You deserve it. #askcaia #womenshealth #selfcare #wellbeing #femaleempowerment #motherhood

02.01.2022 #Fibroids LET’S TALK// and bust a few myths about fibroids. What are they?... They are dense and hard. Not soft and squishy. They can be small. AND LARGE. From the size of a pea to larger than a dinner plate. There may be few. Or there may be many. Some estimates show that 25% of black women between 18 and 30 have fibroids, compared with 7 percent of white women; by age 35, that number increases to 60 percent. How would you know if you had them? - A pregnancy look - Painful periods - Heavy bleeding - Swelling - Severe pelvic pain - Frequent urination - Chronic feeling of fullness - Constipation - Painful sex - Fertility challenges - Sometimes nothing at all What factors increase risk? - Age - Obesity - Family history What options are available? - Leave them alone - if not impacting health it may be best to leave them alone. - Medication to treat symptoms or shrink the fibroid - Myomectomy, however may cause scar tissue that can impact future pregnancy attempts. - Uterine artery embolization, which blocks blood flow to the fibroids. - Hysterectomy, most extreme option and a last resort especially for those considering children (Anecdotal evidence suggests that Black women are offered a hysterectomy as a first treatment option, and studies show that they are two to three times more likely to undergo the procedure than white women). The takeaway? Talk to a GP to understand your options. Before selecting a course of action it is often best to get multiple opinions.
