24.01.2022 Yes, I love(d) perfumes too - but not so much when I learnt about their potential toxicity. I am lucky enough to present health webinars with Naturopath Jen Knutson, and her recent post on the potential dangers of perfume is worth a read. Knowledge gives us the power to make informed decisions. ... Stay well x o x

21.01.2022 Healthier living just with the kitchen utensils we choose Yesterday I finally bought a new chopping board and a few new knives. And whoa, I didnt realise just how blunt my old knives were ! ( Off to the shop to be sharpened ASAP). With my new knife, cutting hard veggies like carrot was like cutting soft butter! I chose a wooden chopping board mindfully - I previously had mostly plastic boards but then it occurred to me than other than being harmful to the planet - pl...astic boards can also be harmful to our health. As we cut up our food - we are also cutting the plastic and inevitably are adding tiny bits of plastic to our food. And the older a plastic board gets - the more it sheds plastic. We must ingest that plastic and obviously that isnt healthy! Plastics are associated with a number of health concerns- but one that bothers me most is that it has been identified as an endocrine disruptor. This means it can adversely affect the reproductive, developmental, reproductive, neurological and immune system. It messes with our bodies normal hormone levels and production. Yep, and plastic is.every.where Do I still have plastic in my house? Yes, but each week I am trying to ditch (the toxins) and switch (for healthier alternatives). When we know better we do better. This week it was a wooden chopping board. Stay well, and if you would like to talk flourishing in your own life. - I am happy to do a free 30 minute live chat. Just DM me xx See more

20.01.2022 I wish it hadnt taken 40-something years to reach this point! But that is the journey I suppose, some get there faster than others. Tell me... are you comfortable with not being liked by someone? Have you always been that way? Or did it take you x number of years?

20.01.2022 I have been M.I.A for about two weeks - and while every social media guru will tell you this is a 101 mistake - I DID IT FOR ME! I seriously needed a break, some sun and some head space. So I did something completely out of character, hired a motor home, packed up the kids and headed 1300kms north without a plan or a husband! It was scary, challenging and liberating. I will tell you about our tears, scares and laughs over the next few days. x

19.01.2022 How amazing is this?! Instead of throwing away or composting your veggies scraps - use them to regrow the plant! save money save landfill reduce carbon load... feel like a legend! I am not a green thumb (yet) but I have done my research, and it is as simple as it looks. Save this post for the instructions to try for yourself. Please let me know how you go! For veggies with the root end intact Cut the vegetables about two to five centimetres from the root. Use up the stems/leaves in whatever you are cooking. Stand the root-end of your cutting in a small jar of water. You just want to keep the roots wet - not the whole vegetable piece. Keep in a bright part of your house or outside on out of direct sunlight. Keep roots submerged in water and change the water once a week. Once regrown you can plant in good potting mix. Avocado pits need a little more prep - but worth the glory of regrowing the plant. Gently remove the seed (pit) from a ripe avocado and clean under warm running water til there is no flesh on it. Method 1 Place the avocado seed pointy end up in a bottle with a neck narrow enough to allow the seed to sit half way in the water. See the photo to see what I mean. (There is a tooth pick method, but that all looks too hard!) Method 2 is in comments Have you tried this before? What would you like to regrow? Reality check! Odds are, your avocado plant is not going to produce fruit, or, if it does, it will take many years and may not produce good fruit. But, starting a plant from the seed/pit is an easy way to grow a free houseplant. Still winning!

19.01.2022 "Effective, pretty and friendly".... hmm, friendly? Turns out maybe Method isn't that friendly! Makers of Method, S C Johnson has been hit with a class action suit claiming that they are misleading consumers with false claims that their products are non-toxic and earth friendly, when they allegedly contain harmful and toxic ingredients. The class action lists these cleaning agents as ... - dipropylene glycol - phenoxyethanol, - linalool, -methylisothiazolinone, - limonene and octylisothiazolinone. These chemicals are associated with eye, skin and respiratory irritations, nervous system damage, and are harmful to marine life. (see article for more detail using link below). Not sounding so friendly now..... Who has used Method in the past or is still using it? I know I used to because I liked the idea that it was non-toxic and earth friendly. If the class action proves that Method DID mislead consumers, then we have been "green-washed" again! What is green washing? It is very clever marketing spin companies use to give a false impression that their product is less harmful to health or more environmentally sound than a competitors. Misleading information? I call it deception. Green washing uses tactics such as colour psychology (e.g. green is good, natural), imagery (e.g. rolling grass hills, the earth, clean oceans is earth friendly) and green terms (e.g friendly, eco etc). Greenwashing exploits people with genuine environmental or health concerns, limiting their ability to making informed decisions that would actually be healthier, or environmentally friendly. We shouldn't need a magnifying glass and a science degree to read ingredient lists and make informed buying decisions. As a knock on effect, greenwashing creates confusion and scepticism towards ALL products promoting healthy, green credentials, including those have genuine credentials. Want to know more about toxins in your household products, their effects on your health and safer alternatives? Join us for a FREE Webinar this Saturday 4th July, register in my events section or click the link here https://createhealthyhome.eventbrite.com.au/ To read more on the class action suit against Method - click this link https://topclassactions.com//method-class-action-says-cle/ Stay well x x

17.01.2022 I am going to be getting serious with you for a minute...... I am SICK AND TIRED of needing a magnifying glass and a science degree to know if the products I am using in my home are safe!!!! Could your home be tox-sick? ... Do you know what toxic chemicals are lurking in the products you use on your body and in your home on a daily basis? Products that may contain ingredients that can be harmful to your health - including endocrine disruptors, carcinogens, allergens and gut disruptors. Yes, even some of those products that claim to be 'eco-friendly', 'green' or 'gentle', can still be carrying toxic chemicals. 15.01.2022 - !! Its a wet and windy day in Perth, and while I get some work done Miss Mabel is staying in her jammies and getting some zzzzzzz. I am quietly jealous. ... My fur babies are very precious to me, and my wellness journey includes them too. By ditching the toxic chemicals out of my home I am also improving health outcomes for my pets. ? Animals like cats and dogs absorb substances through their paws? So if you are washing your floors with products that contain synthetic fragrance, and toxic chemicals - your pets could be absorbing that into their bodies?! What about your shower area? Do you have a pet that is obsessed with licking water from the shower floor like Mabel? If you are using conventional cleaners, your pet could be ingesting bleach, sulfectants, ammonia, triclosan, phthalates, chlorine, sodium hydroxide (these are just examples!). These are toxic chemicals, that are linked to cancer, respiratory issues, hormone disruption and skin conditions. Please if you have pets and are using conventional cleaners - I didnt think of this either until recently when I started my journey to a healthier way of life. So let me say it again - dont. feel. guilty! Just have a look at the labels on your products - check what they contain. Knowledge is power - you may want to think about the products you are using in your home in relation to the health of your family and your fur family. If you would like more information on toxins and health; or a home visit to look at the toxic chemicals lurking in your household products - I am here to help. Drop me a DM. PS - In the photos you will see the Inner Balance oil blend created exclusively for pets. Its Mabels Zen blend - it smells warm and comforting - and is relaxing and calming for Mabel. Plus, it makes her smell nicer when it is too cold for a bath! Its a winner.

14.01.2022 Woo hoo for natural nails!! A save and share post for you... I'm no hand model, but I did want to show off the fact that I have for the first time in my life - long, natural nails!! I have had artificial nails for the last 25 years - acrylics, SNS, gel, I've had them all! When I decided to change my life to one of flourishing, the first step for me was to reduce the toxic load on my body and that meant getting rid of the chemical laden fake nails! ... I resigned myself to the fact that I wouldn't have "pretty' nails anymore, but decided it was worth it to get rid of the toxins - plus I would save a tonne of money! I cant tell you how excited I am that my nails have continued to grow - they aren't the dry, peeling and splitting nails that started me on my fake nail addiction. This got me thinking, "Why"? What is different? I don't have definitive answers, but I am going to list the things that I am doing differently that could be making the difference. bone broth - I drink it every day. Bone broth has so many nutritional benefits, one being collagen with is great for healthy hair and nails. (see my previous post for more info) botanical cleaning products - everything I use in my home is botanical based & non toxic. I no longer have harsh chemicals weakening my nails or damaging my skin (message me if you'd like more info') If I do decide to paint my nails I only use no tox'/low tox' brands of nail polish and nail polish remover (see healthy swaps for ideas) I focus on nutritious foods, but I also use supplements for the areas I am deficient, calcium is one of them - which supports nails (among other things) I massage my nails and cuticles with an oil blend of lavender, lemon, frankincense & jojoba oil as often as I can remember. So there you have it, my healthy nail habits! If you have poor nail health like I used to, maybe there is something here for you. What would you like to add to your routine? Let me know in comments. x x

09.01.2022 Are you tempted? These are Kooshoo scrunchies I haven't been to the hairdressers since before COVID struck - and I have a bit of hair to tie back now. I was pretty excited when I stumbled on these babies on Instagram, so I had to share them. Why are they special? Because they are ... Organic - Fair Trade - Plastic Free - (including the packaging) And the women behind them are Aussie/Canadian. I like to support women in business, and buying ethically made, planet friendly products. So I feel pretty good about ordering some. You can find them on instagram at @feelingkooshoo and find your local supplier with a quick google search. I found them on instagram thanks to the people over @zerowastecartel

09.01.2022 No more apologising for my sunshine or my rain! Apologies are important when they are - in fact I think it takes courage and class to apologise and own poor behaviour or mistakes. However, I observe how women and girls apologise, over and over for behaviours, or words that are completely valid and acceptable. From a young age girls are somehow conditioned to constantly apologise for behaviours that dont warrant apology. ... Do you apologise too often? What do you apologise for that warranted? Mine is for being too shiny (OTT) when I am happy - and on the flip side apologising when I am teary with sadness. I am not doing that !!! What would like to stop apologising for?

08.01.2022 Now that I have your attention..Ladies are you giving your ‘girls’ the attention they deserve? Are you regularly checking your breasts for changes? My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003 at the age of 39. For eight years she fought the disease with multiple surgeries, rounds of chemo, radiation, and drugs. But in 2011 breast cancer took her from us, she was only 47 years old. We all know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month right? But how many of us... are actually checking our breast health EVERY month, looking for changes? Do you know what your breasts normally look and feel like? Do you know what to check for? To make this as easy as possible I am sharing with you a simple to follow breast self examination/check chart. I want you to save the chart for yourself and then tag and share the sh*t out of it with your friends! The chart shows you with easy diagrams what to check for in a self examination. When you are familiar with the way your breasts normally look and feel, it is easier to spot changes. You can make your breast check a positive, regular part of your self-care routine. Check in front of the mirror, in the shower, laying down if you have a partner, let them help! If you do find a change it most likely isn’t breast cancer, but please see your doctor without delay. Who wouldn’t want that peace of mind? You will find the chart in the "menu" section of this FaceBook page (weird I know - but it is the only place I can upload PDFs!)and in the comments below. If you would like a PDF file to download and print - please send me a message and I will forward the file. What to do 1. Save this post for yourself. Print the PDF if you like 2. Tag your friends in the comments or share this post to your own account. 3. Put a reminder in your calendar to check your breasts every month & keep a record. 4. Love your ‘girls’. Please Together we may save a life. Take care stay well x x IMPORTANT I am not a doctor, and breast check protocols can be influenced by factors such as your age and family history. If you need more information please visit your GP or www.breastcancer.org.au

08.01.2022 You can never have too many diffusers right?! This is the Aria oil diffuser I am crushing on right now. She is sooo beautiful, and has an ethereal vibe when diffusing. Hopefully I will be able to add an Aria diffuser to our home soon. Diffuser or oil burner? ... Essential Oils are volatile organic compounds - meaning they easily become vapours or gases. To distribute them in a room you can either use a diffuser that uses ultrasonic vibrations to spritz a mist of essential oils around the room. Or you can use a burner, which (usually) uses a lit candle to heat up the essential oils so that they evaporate and fill the room. Is one better than another? I have yet to find any scientific data that shows that one method is therapeutically better than another. However I can tell you what I think based on practicalities. A traditional oil burner uses a tea light candle and a flickering flame looks very pretty, however it comes with limitations - you cannot leave your burner unattended - it can be a safety risk around children and pets - candles burn and out and need replacing - you cant put a candle on an auto shut off timer An ultrasonic diffuser uses electricity, and for me has many advantages. - I can set a timer to diffuse for a set time - A diffuser can be left unattended - It is safe around children and pets (aside from normal precautions around electrical devices) - It is safe to go to sleep with a diffuser operating So you can see that my clear favourite is a diffuser. At the end of the day however, what is more important is the quality of the essential oils that you use, more than the method of you use to diffuse their beautiful properties.

06.01.2022 I need your advice! As an ADHD mumma, it isn't always easy to stay in the now. My brain is often r- a- c- i- n- g with multiple internal conversations with a sound track running on loop in the background. It is exactly like that joke "My brain is like an internet browser: 17 tabs are open, 9 of them are not responding, there are thousands of pop ups and where the f*&k is that annoying music coming from?!" Sometimes, the internal chatter is so noisy - it actually causes me di...stress, I mean I want to cry because I just need a little quiet! When I feel like this I have to do disciplined work to bring down the mental volume and get back to the 'now' moment. When I say discipline, I don't mean military style rules and drills - to me that feels like I am coming from a place of judgement and failure. I mean loving kindness towards myself to acknowledge my struggle, pause and take time for quietening practices. I don't think you have to have ADHD to experience mental overwhelm, being running a home/working/being a mumma is enough! What works for me...... - focus on my breath, slow it down, breathe from my belly - softly soothe my brain with a gentle 'ssshhhhhhhh' - replacing negative thoughts with neutral or reassuring messages - anchoring these practices with calming essential oils (yes, it works!) I am always looking for more ways to calm my mind and get to the now. If you have practices, tips - what works for you? * ADHD - Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is diagnosed on a spectrum and I am on the Attention Deficit end.

04.01.2022 Disclosure : I have biophilia Sounds naaassty, but actually it means I love and have an affinity with nature. I wasnt born this way, except to say I have always loved animals. But over the years I find myself more and more in love with, and moved by nature. ... They dont have to be large or spectacular. It could be a stick smoothed by weather, the geometry of a spiral sea shell, the joy of indoor plants, the sound of the ocean through my bedroom window. We were meant to be connected with nature and when I am struggling I find myself comforted by her. If nature is your thing, what do you love the most? Big or small.... PS - before anyone calls me out on it, while I have discovered a love for nature - camping in the great outdoors is NOT my thing. But I am working on it!! See more

03.01.2022 My 'bliss' face - laying on a sunny beach in Exmouth, feeling like it isn't winter at all. Is it really two weeks ago that I impulsively hired a motor home, packed up the kids, dog & drove from Perth to Exmouth without hubby or a plan?! It was an amazing trip, & took a lot of courage as I had never gone on holidays without an itinerary, never taken the kids camping, & never driven 2500kms by myself before - let alone in a 3 tonne vehicle! And when you've been married fo...r 18 years, you kind of get used to sharing the worry & responsibilities. We had tears, scares & laughs, and I regularly questioned my sanity in deciding to put two teenagers in such close quarters for a week! Our road trip included Kalbarri, Shark Bay, Exmouth, Monkey Mia, Carnarvon and Geraldton. I am not a camping-type-person, & the tears came the first time I had to empty the toilet reservoir from the motor home, it was heinous! A strict number 1's rule only was quickly put in place! The were a few fear moments - I think the worst was an emu squaring up to attack our dog Mabel. It's only now I can see how funny it must have looked as I stood in my pyjamas waving my electric tooth brush at an emu, while standing on one foot using other foot to keep Mabel under the RV - all the while yelling "Go away! Go away!" And we had laughs too! Stupid jokes, playing Cards Against Humanity & when darling daughter gagged on dog biscuit she had mistaken for a human snack. Apparently it didn't taste as bad as you would think. The absolute highlight of course was swimming with a Whale Shark on the Ningaloo Reef. We were so lucky to swim with it 4 times! Snorkelling off the beach at the Oyster Stacks at Ningaloo was also beautiful - seeing sting rays, a rainbow of coloured fish, giant clams, coral, it was another world. The sad part was we didn't have enough time to explore more on our road trip. Fellow travellers - what should include in our next road trip to Exmouth? See more

02.01.2022 This is a soap saver bag and you need this baby in your life! Let me tell you why When I went low tox, one of the easiest things to switch was to a plant-based body soap. But because I hated slimy, messy soap bars I put a bottle of liquid soap in every shower and at every sink. What has been bothering me lately is that buying refill bottles creates waste and getting to the bulk store to fill my own jar isn’t always easy. The perfect solution is a soap saver bag,... soap lasts longer because it doesn’t sit in a wet soap dish It creates a gorgeous lather The mesh bag gently exfoliates your body You can use every last sliver of soap No messy soap dishes to clean It is made of sisal, so when it’s reached the end of its life, you can compost it Once you have your soap in the bag you just wet it and wash, then hang the bag up after use to dry out. Easy and eco friendly! It gets a from Bec How to get yours I don’t sell these in my store - but you can get them online or in-store @moonhaven in Cowaramup W.A. Take care stay well x x
