18.01.2022 This is us. And this is where we live. There’s gotta be something witty we could say here about the road less travelled, making your own path, creating your way, but yep, there it is home.... We left our corporate creative agency jobs in the city and moved to the country because we were after something different. We wanted to work with people who shared our values who want to make the world better and fairer not just win industry awards. We were looking for a more ethical, sustainable life. And we wanted our children to see us as part of the solution not part of the problem. But upending your life can be tricky (!?!). WTAF were we doing? We’d never run a business before We needed support and guidance. We needed a community. Since embarking on our ‘less travelled dirt track’ we’ve been fortunate enough to collaborate with some amazing businesses. Someone that pushed us along the most, is Ami at Craft Coaching. Her guidance and enabling support has been brilliant! We’ve learnt more about ourselves and the way we think & work in the last year than ever before. It’s not been easy it’s challenging and requires effort and change. But it’s growth and acceptance and we’re moving forward. A massive thank you Craft Coaching and Development for helping us create our own way. We’re very much looking forward to continuing the work with you next year you rock!

17.01.2022 ‘Tis the season to be silly or is it? We stopped the silly years ago after we had kids. It was pretty obvious if they kept getting loads of shit plastic toys as presents, we were going to need a bigger house and we had no chance of saving the planet.... Of course, we understand the importance of gifting, but crap plastic doesn’t really cut it. So, we came up with a new idea. Our gifts now fit into this popular rhyme Something you want Something you need Something to wear Something to read (one is handmade together) We’ve had parents say that they couldn’t give their kids clothes or something they need as a present. We say you just need to be creative about it. Something to wear doesn’t need to be boring. So far, we’ve had a snorkel, non-nasties kids’ make-up, a Darth Vader costume and a princess dress. And something you need can be anything chocolate ( hello 2020), a tutu for ‘ballet shows’ at home, or ‘Crocy’ a crocodile for cuddling in bed. We’re trying to teach our kids that giving a gift needs to thoughtful especially the one they labour over and make with us. Last year Beau and Wren gave us their self-portrait artworks. BEST. PRESENT. EVER. Image 1: artwork Wren Beckett aged 8 Image 2: artwork Beau Beckett aged 10

07.01.2022 Ray and Charles Eames. Design legends. Our heroes. They believed in democratising design because good design should be enjoyed by everyone. We want to make the best for the most for the least. They disrupted the design world, mass producing affordable, functional, high quality furniture for the average American.... Independent Creatives believes in democratising creativity because CREATIVITY is for EVERYONE. We say bollocks to small businesses being priced out of good creative. So we’re disrupting the traditional ‘creative agency’ model. What does that mean? You can work with us however you fancy You can hire our brains for an hour or we can become your virtual creative department. We can collaborate on your brand, marketing or creative strategy so you can nail your business goals in 2021 or we can work on individual campaigns and launches. You can outsource all of your content creation or just a bit of copywriting or art direction. If you’re a conscious business creating impact making the world a better place and you need a hand with: Good branding Good design Good creative Good marketing Good ideas Give us a shout! Independent Creatives is all about Good work for good people. Image:Eames Office LLC

05.01.2022 One that happens is. If it doesn’t, it isn’t. What’s a bad idea? Ideas are a matter of taste.... What is a good idea to some can be bad or boring to others. A good idea is a clever solution to a problem, one that I have never seen before. But if an idea is not taken up and used as a solution to a problem it has no value. It becomes a non-idea. Lying in a drawer it is useless. Worse than useless, it’s a complete waste of space. Ideas have to be applied before they are recognised as good ideas. Even a bad idea executed is better than a good idea undone. Paul Arden fucking genius. Something we learnt very early on in our careers JUST. HAVE. IDEAS. So, get creative you can’t fuck it up.

02.01.2022 As the very awesome Dolly Parton once said Find out who you are and do it on purpose. No one can be you. Your authenticity is your power. It’s what makes you different.... But being authentic means being vulnerable and that shit is hard. Fucking hard when you’re a small business and you’re trying to keep it real on your socials and 2020 happens and you feel all the emotions everyday. And then you find someone who is ridiculously good. At being real. At being vulnerable. At being authentic. Someone leading the way. We were enrolled in The Digital Picnics’ VIP programme this year. And although we didn’t get much implemented (thanks to 3 terms of home-schooling) we learnt Oh.So.Much. Cherie’s amazing. She’s putting herself out there, celebrating her differences and standing out in a big way on social media while teaching the rest of us how to do it. Not only that she rocks the DMs! We’ve had many a chat about our neuro-kinship. She’s generous with her knowledge, whether it’s about work or life. So, we’ve signed up to the VIP programme again because we’re planning on nailing it in 2021. We’re working our way up to Cherie ‘authenticity status’ and we’re chuffed she’s gonna be pushing us along. Thanks The Digital Picnicyou rock!
