23.01.2022 Waiting is such a frustrating thing for a child to learn. Practice can occur at home - When a request is made, sign and say 'wait', count to 10 then hand over. This helps kids learn that 'wait' does not mean 'no'

19.01.2022 Finding the right step for transfers can be tricky... I am finding caravan steps very helpful. Lightweight, folding, and sturdy, these double steps are a good height to help the transfer in / out of SUV's.

17.01.2022 As more and more people are staying at home, this is nice reminder to follow your child's lead and take the pressure off you and them. Generally, children are better players than us! You can still guide and expand on their ideas when following their lead. https://www.abc.net.au//coronavirus-covid-19-chil/12074628

12.01.2022 One of my favourite ways to play is using a favourite book as a guide. Make pretend food, find a tunnel for a cocoon and then use to act out the Hungry Caterpillar..... https://www.playgroupnsw.org.au//Parentin/imaginative-play

10.01.2022 Some ways in which girls with ASD present differently...

09.01.2022 Some tips for transitions..... I also like making up songs that fit with the transition, such as "We're going on a dinner hunt, we're going to eat a big one". If you find a song you like, stick with the same song for each activity.

01.01.2022 Last year I found easy to use and easy to purchase elbow splints. Great to support weight bearing for crawling, sitting and transfers. http://www.milestonestherapy.com.au/the-bamboo-brace/

01.01.2022 One of the most important ways we can help a child who doesn't like their hands being messy is to remain calm and help them regain control. Showing kids how to wipe their hands on their clothes empowers them to help themselves and not rely on someone to save them, and in turn helps them to take risks.
