01.01.2022 What an educational few days spent at the CQIB conference this past week. The conference started with an intriguing topic that was presented on Data, AI & Automation Hype or Reality. I tend to think these days it is definitely less hype and more reality and it was such an eye opening presentation with so many insights into the modern world and how fast processes will be become under a new automated system. This session was followed by another topic that has us all wanting ...to know more. Daniel Burke from Adjuster Corp went through some real life case studies. He spoke about 2 different claims they were involved with, both at the insurers request. With their involvement to help mitigate ongoing losses through fraudulent claims not only to help the insurer but to also help the insured. One of these cases, a rogue employee was orchestrating the ongoing loses to profit from these events and putting it in their back pocket, whilst the business was suffering big time. It reinforced the importance of having an experienced Insurance Broker working for their client, as they were able to bring Insurers, Adjuster and the Insured together in partnership to investigate the circumstances of the ongoing losses. All parties were able to work through a united process to resolve the matter and puts steps in place to prevent a re-occurrence. Like any partnership, the more open and honest the partnership is the less chance there is of conflict and dispute However it wasn’t just all information and learning we were lucky enough to have some motivational speakers in, with the likes of Liz Ellis AO and my good friend Adam Brown. The tales of their successes and lows were amazing to hear. Adam in particular spoke about his time on the Sword of Orion and the situation that presented the crew on board during that ill - fated Sydney to Hobart yacht race in 1998. Truly inspirational actions by the crew and their rescuers. A massive thanks to all those that contributed and gave time to help educate us and to the CQIB for organising such an event .
