25.01.2022 We had some idea that need for food will increase after Christmas holidays but not to the extent we observed this week. It seems reduction in job seekers allowance is a contributing factor besides many part-time jobs still not available. Two new families were added to our list of families in need who we deliver food at their doorstep weekly. (These families are less mobile due to kids being quite young or there is an ailment in the family). After delivering these two families... and our regular ones, we took food to Havelock House and Companion House to top up pantries there. So by all standards we were busy throughout the week either purchasing the food or delivering it. No wonder food worth more than $500 was delivered this week. All of this was possible because of your generous support. The big question is whether 2021 will be like 2020. Hopefully NOT. Strongly wish not. One thing is certain that Covid will be vaccinated but it will be a wishful thinking that it will be eliminated completely. This means need for supporting vulnerable will continue at a higher level. And God willing so will be generoCITY of Canberra. Thank you Canberra. Happy New Year. Let us keep the flame alive, the flame of love and care for all in need. 25.01.2022 HelpingACT Weekly Report: The week past was different as Friday Canberra Muslims including refugees and asylum seekers (RAS) families celebrated Eid festival. Helping ACT through your support was pleased to distribute toys and other Eid gifts to kids of these vulnerable families. Then yesterday I received 25 kilo of beef which was distributed today to deserving struggling families. I am thankful to my good friend Nawshad for this generous donation. The meat was distributed t...hrough the assistance of Multicultural Hub where Nunu was instrumental in ensuring that the task was completed quickly. Thank you Nunu. An overseas student at ANU also got meat donation. I also attended online meeting of Multicultural Advisory Committee (MAC). Canberra Wellbeing indicators and Settlement of refugees and asylum seekers were discussed exhaustively. While all this took significant amount of time, supply of groceries to three families was also made, Companion House was delivered it’s weekly food along with kids presents, and Havelock Hiuse was donated with hygiene products. Let us keep the flame alive, the flame of love and care for all in need. Mohammed Ali www. HelpingACT. Org Manar Ahmad Muhammed Aksu Amne Alrifai Gabriel Mustafa Matthew willis

21.01.2022 HelpingACT Weekly Report: The week past was smooth running except for Saturday and Sunday. Monday was delivery of grocery to two families and restocking of pantry at Companion House. All three tasks completed as planned. On Tuesday We met with the Early Morning Centre management discussing what assistance was needed in food for homeless. It was decided that some emergency food pack contents was a good idea. Coming week will see us delivering these packs. We also met Louise B...aker at Havelock House and donated some food for their pantry. The Havelock needs some hygiene products that will be provided in the coming week. A third meeting was with Roseanne Howes, inspirational leader of #Slabsforheroes. Roseanne donated a significant quantity of biscuits, Arnott and other brands. These biscuits are currently being donated to refugees via Companion House, and to individual asylum Seeker families. Our friend Dr Jyoti kindly donated quality food stuff for which we are very thankful. On Thursday the feeling was that week was done and we can relax but that was not to be. In the afternoon our friend Yvonne Douglas sent a message that she wanted to donate money enough to purchase 20 kilo of chicken. How could we say No to such a generous offer. So Saturday morning I got the chicken from Yvonne and distributed to five families, three with kids. Can’t say enough thanks to Yvonne and her mum for their generosity. I knew that their gesture would bring much desired smile on otherwise serious faces. And that was what it did. Sincere most thanks Yvonne. Sunday meant purchasing and packing of toys to gift to kids of vulnerable families. This is part of Eid Adha celebration which is coming on Friday. Eid Greetings to all celebrating. Let us pray on Eid day for those who are experiencing tough time especially due to Covid. Let us keep the flame alive. The flame of love and care for all in need. Mohammed Ali www. HelpingACT.Org

21.01.2022 On behalf of HelpingACT last week I had a meeting with manager of the Mustard Seed Uniting Food Pantry in Gungahlin and discussed how HelpingACT can assist. Mustard Seed identified a number of food items that are regularly needed by vulnerable people who visit the food donation facility. The items identified included halal meat for Muslim Families if and when they contact Mustard Seed. I pledged that we will provide meat and other grocery items plus long life food items whene...ver needed. Some long life food items were also donated after the meeting was over. This was not the only meeting that I had last week. I met Fair Canberra’s President Nick Manikis and Former ACT Liberal Leader Alistair Coe over a cup of coffee . Coffee flavour intermingled with the discussion on the charity projects of the HelpingACT. Both Nic and Alistair appreciated our work. Both have been regular donors of food. Fair Canberra is also heavily involved in making our society better. Thank you both wonderful friends. HelpingACT is also supporting Australian Islamic Medical Association (AIMA) in their Blood Donation Drive for Australian Red Cross. AIMA volunteers and Red Cross staff will be at the Gungahlin Mosque taking pledges for blood donation this Friday from Mid Day until 2 PM. Please visit them and pledge your donation. One blood can help save lives of more than 20 patients by fractionation of blood into its components. Rest of the week saw usual deliveries of groceries and meat at door steps of couple of families and restocking of Companion House Food pantry for refugees and asylum seekers. We are also thankful to a moving household who donated a number of kitchen items this week. These items were sent to couple of needy families who are settling in Canberra. Thankful to Robyn Davies for the donation and Multicultural Hub’s Mr Claude for his mediation with needy families and assistance in this regard. Let us keep the flame alive, the flame of love and care for all in need. Together we can do it. Mohammed Ali Muhammad Ali Manar Ahmad

19.01.2022 HelpingACT’s First Dinner of Ramadan this evening at Australian National University went extremely well. Some 55 students belonging to six different nationalities attended the dinner. Taj Agra’s delicious Biryani along with Vegetable dish made by Nasim Ali was very much liked by all students. Pakoras and fruits as entree and Gulab Jaman as dessert made it impossible for students to resist. For HelpingACT it was keeping the tradition. Last year we hosted four dinners for Uni...versity of Canberra students. This year again we are doing four, one on every Wednesday of Ramadan. HelpingACT is extremely thankful to its young volunteers who helped in planning and executing the operation of today’s dinner with complete perfection. These volunteers include Salman Tahir, Jibran Habib, Muatafa Ewazi, Malik Haroon, Hafsa Bajwa, Shafi, Saad Khalid and many others. God bless you all. Our next dinner on Wednesday will have Malaysian dishes. Sincere thanks to our donors who are making this dinner project successfully. Please feel free to donate more fir us to serve in the next three Wednesdays. Stay blessed all. Www. HelpingACT.Org #abcnews

18.01.2022 Ramadan started in Canberra today. First day of my fasting started by talking to Lish Frjer at ABC Radio this morning. In response to Lish’s question about Ramadan I responded saying that the holy month is all about compassion and kindness. Ramadan invites us to appreciate problems of homeless and all other vulnerable including refugees and asylum seekers. Thank you Lish for inviting me to your program. Thank you ABC. On behalf of HelpingACT I contacted Early Morning Centre ...at Northbourne Street and donated some breakfast food for homeless. We will be providing breakfast food to Homeless via the Centre soon. 18.01.2022 From Mohammed Ali’s FB: Australian Islamic Medical Association (AIMA) and Australian Red Cross collected pledges for Blood Donation at Friday Congregational Prayers yesterday at Gungahlin Mosque. More than 150 pledges were collected including that of Imam Hamza who lead the prayers, President of North Muslim Community Mr Abdul Bari, a significant number of Muslim women, and a large number of young worshippers. This was third such event in the last one year organised by AIMA. ...Last year two such events were held at the Canberra Islamic Centre in Monash, the first event was thankfully covered by #ABC Canberra. Witnessing the great number of pledges yesterday visiting Radio Broadcaster, journalist and distinguished Urdu Sports Commentator Mr Jamil Siraj commented, ‘It is the beginning of a new era in Canberra’. Let us all please consider donating blood. One pint of blood donated can potentially save 22 lives. 12.01.2022 HelpingACT: Weekly Report: With winter finishing soon there is hope that life will get comparatively easier for our vulnerable brothers and sisters that are bound to sleep rough. However, with Covid cloud lingering and Victoria still continuing to record though less yet significant new cases it seems restrictions will continue for a while. This means that food requirements for asylum seekers, refugees and homeless, will remain elevated for a while. HelpingACT kept busy throu...ghout the week. It supplied non perishable food and fresh grocery items which were sufficient to make around 300 meals. Details are as follows: .Supplied food at the door steps of five asylum seeker families/international student. Three of these families have small kids as well. One family was given a Coles voucher on top. . Made weekly run to top up food pantry at Companion House m. 25 Kilo basmati rice, 50 tuna fish tins, 10 litre of cooking oil and 60 noodle cups were donated for vulnerable community members through this venture. . Some purchase of hygiene products was done for Havelock House. This will be delivered along with cup noodles on Monday. . Donation of a CAR: One of the highlights of the week was to facilitate donation of a car to one of the vulnerable family who are badly in need of own transport. My hats off to my long time TGA friend Rob Spence who is donating the car. HelpingACT organised meetings in this regard with the receiving family through Amelia and Hongsaar at Companion House. Physical delivery of the car will be an event next week. Dear Rob no words to thank you. . Another highlight of the week was online meeting with ACT Multicultural Department to discuss availability of staple food items to diverse groups. We are a step forward in this regard now. That is the significant step towards food security to vulnerable Canberrans of diverse origin. . A pre-loved sofa set in an immaculate condition and a second hand large size fridge in full working condition is ready with HelpingACT for donation to any vulnerable family. We have let Multicultural Hub know about these items. Please contact on 0404947260 if you have someone who needs these things. These things are completely free. . A pending project started taking shape: HelpingACT has started sorting out some new summer clothes for potential donors. Details of this project next week. As the need is increasing so is the work of HelpingACT. We request you to continue your support to our work. We are currently spending an average of $300 per week for our food purchases. We need your support badly. 11.01.2022 HelpingACT weekly report: We had a meeting with Uniting Church’s Early Morning Centre’s Ms Nicole this week and discussed how we can assist in this Covid Crisis. Remember Early Morning Centre on Northbourne Ave is open for (now take away only due to Covid) breakfast and lunch for homeless. It is this Centre we donated End of year Holiday Season food packs for homeless last year and the year before last. Last year we gifted 200 food packs and the event was thankfully covered b...y ABC TV and RiotACT. Ms Nicole indicated the need for food packs for their clients. We have agreed to organise these packs in the coming week and deliver to homeless via this Centre. Coming week therefore will be busy. On Thursday we restocked food pantry at Companion House. Believe me the demand for food has increased at least three times. In addition, three families were provided with their weekly groceries. Had a chat with Multicultural Department. Hopefully more inclusive food packs, more suitable to the needs of diverse groups, will be available to needy soon. Attended Online Board meeting of Companion House. Director Kathy Ragless advised that the medical centre was busy, and it was fully prepared for any future Covid related requirement if situation demanded. ACT Refugees and Asulum Seekers Coordination Committee (RASH) Meeting last week had heard that Discretion Grants process was going smoothly which is just great. Hope this will continue. Had a Committee meeting of HelpingACT and discussed the way forward. Some important decisions will take practical shape soon. Thank you Amne Alrifai, Manar Ahmad, Muhammed Aksu, Matthew Willis, and Sumayya Qasim for attending the meeting. Gabriel Mustafa was there in spirit. Usman attended as an observer. Thanks Usman. Thank you to all supporters of #helpingACT. All of us together are trying to help ACT to save it from Covid effect. And we know we can do it. For ‘Together we are a force, isolated just a straw’. 10.01.2022 We need your help: We did 210 Food Hampers for vulnerable at Christmas last year. They were not life changer but they made the difference. A smile on the torn faces was our reward. With continuing Covid situation, home quarantines, decrease in job seeker allowance, disability and/or domestic violence, some families especially those with kids are doing real tough. These families need weekly groceries delivered to them. ... HelpingACT needs your support in this regard. We have received requests for Halal Meat plus fresh Vegetables and fruits from three more families. This is in addition to those already being served. We need your help to help these families. A pack of Halal meat and some Vegetables for a week is coming to $40. With six families now on our list we easily need $240 a week to bring smile on these awaiting faces . 09.01.2022 Was privileged to see Sky Orange Van at #HavelockHouse this afternoon when I went to drop off food donation for their pantry. The staff of the van as smiling and receiving as they always are were dealing with a number of Havelock residents, washing their clothes and whoever wishes opening the van for him/her taking a bath. This was their weekly round every Wednesday. Commendable work indeed. Louise Baker and I also briefly discussed upcoming End of the Year Party where #help...ingact will donate food hampers to the attendees. Earlier I had a meeting with Fair Canberra President Nick Manikis. I congratulated Nic for a very successful BBQ at Bunnings Belconnen last Saturday. Also took some tips from him (and Borhan) about the Operation of the BBQ as coming Saturday I along with Companion House Board members are doing it for raising much needed funds for Companion House. Later in the evening had an online meeting discussing preparations of the intended BBQ. Yesterday was a great day in the sense that I met two icons of Canberra. Along with Dr Imran Ahmad met with Chancellor University of Canberra Prof Tom Calma and later had a quick brush with Rugby legend Mal Maninga. Prof Tom is a speaker at our Forum Australia forum on the future of Canberra. Titled as Canberra in 2030 Tom will cover what we wish to see our higher education trending to in 2030. Other experts include Dr Imran Ahmad who will discuss climate future of Canberra. The forum is at Hellenic Club Woden on Wednesday 2 December at 6 PM. Registration via Eventbrite. What was left of the day was to put aside food delivery to Companion House which will happen tomorrow. Let us keep the flame alive, the flame of love and care for all in need. 09.01.2022 Attended Multicultural Advisory Committee’s meeting yesterday evening. The committee noted the progress of different Sub-Committee’s on various multicultural issues that they were assigned to deliberate on and later forward their recommendations. The committee members who attended, among others, included Mainul Haque, Zakia Patel and Shobha Varkey. Dr Kirk presided t...he meeting. ACT Minister for Mental Health and Disability Hon Emma Davidson attended later part of the meeting. She explained about her work and her aspirations. She also attentively noted down committee members’ recommendations. Issues like racism in ACT, Ageing, communication issues with elderly citizens, need for a bigger Multicultural Community Centre in Canberra, were discussed. I raised the issue of Intergenerational Care recommending that there was a need to review the existing model of Age Care given preferences and practices of migrant communities towards their elders care was different. 02.01.2022 HelpingACT: Last two weeks report: Last two weeks have been again busy with charity work increasing. Two trips to Companion House restocking pantry there and equal number of trips to Havelock House with food loaded in the car boot. But all this was a pleasure as it was thankfully received by Companion House and #havelockhouse. We also managed to continue our fresh grocery deliveries to families and individuals on our list. Had a lunch meeting with Zouheir Doulati and Hussain,... both velued members of Canberra Legal fraternity. We discussed strategies to bring in youth and engage them in voluntary work and women participation and empowerment. Manar and I also ventured to set up a stall at Jamison Sunday Trash and Treasure Market and raised $650, which will help in buying food for food hampers. Had a tea session with outgoing Greens MLA Caroline Le Couteur and Former ACT Chief Minister Gary Humphries. This was to thank both dignitaries for Helping ACT. Iqbal Khan was also in attendance. One evening turned out to be meet and eat with new Board Members of Companion House. Congratulations Tara and Mustafa. With End of Year coming closer planning has started for purchasing food and preparing 200 gift packs for delivery to Early Morning Centre, Havelock Housing and Companion House. Vinnies and Multicultural Hub are also a focus. We will be packing these gift packs on Sunday, 13 December and need volunteers to help. Please contact 0404947260 for further details. Looking forward to your donation in cash and kind. Mohammed Ali Muhammad Ali
02.01.2022 HelpingACT weekly report: While regular weekly deliveries of groceries were made to three asylum seeker families and one family affected by domestic violence (which was given a Coles Voucher as well), the main highlight of the week was donation of significant amount of food to Companion House for its pantry. As stated in earlier weekly reports, the need for food has tripled since March and unfortunately ACT Government sponsored CRN Food Hampers are of less use to the asylum s...eekers and refugees families as they miss out on staple food items that these families eat. Most of the families and individuals visiting Companion House are originally from Middle East, Afghanistan and the SubContinent and they need basmati rice, lentils, basin flour, wheat flour, couscous, sorghum, cooking oil, tin fish and cup noodles which are still desired to be part of CRN hampers. Consequently these clients turn to the pantry at Companion House which is restocked by HelpingACT on priority basis. Multicultural Hub is no exception as their clients are mostly originating from Africa. Last week realising the dire situation we donated 60 kilo Basmati rice, 10 kilo lentils, 6x2 litres of Cooking Oil, 72 cup chicken noodles, 36x400 gms of diced tomatoes in tins, 60x90 gms tin fish to Companion House. This food was sufficient to prepare 400 meals easily. We also provided rice and meat (Beaf) to Multicultural Hub which was sufficient for 100 meals. I am personally and on behalf of HelpingACT thankful to all our generous supporters. Their help is our lifeline. Let us keep the flame alive, the flame of love and care for all in need. 02.01.2022 I hope and wish 2021 is a good year for all of us. We have vaccine available soon for Covid and are able to fight the evil virus better. Social ills reduce; domestic violence, child abuse, homelessness, refugees and asylum seeker issues all reduce. Currently however the last zero of 2020 has changed into 1 but honestly no change has come. Life is still the same, life challenges are the same. Realising all above,!HelpingACT decided to start its mission of providing long life ...food to Canberra vulnerable literally without a break. We resumed delivery of our weekly grocery from Monday and delivered to four families at their door step. Three is these families are with kids. Havelock House was delivered food for its pantry this afternoon. We assist 100 residents there with food needs. Thankful to Louise Baker and Andrew Rowe who thankfully received our donation. Later half of the afternoon was spent purchasing more food items which were in the dying hour of the day taken to Companion House pantry. Kathy Ragless was thankful for our continuing work to meet vulnerable food need.m A unique addition to this weeks supply was donating food to the RSPCA for our silent companions, our pets. Simon at RSPCA Weston appreciated the donation saying ‘This food assistance was much needed’. All above donations which will provide food security to more than 150 vulnerable during the upcoming week are possible due to your generous support. Thank you wonderful friends. Your assistance is making difference, no matter how small. This was not my view only but when I had coffee with CEO of Vinnies Mr Barnie Wanwyk yesterday he also expressed the same sentiment. No matter how small we do, it makes difference. Have a very happy Covid safe New Year. You deserve it. Kind regards Mohammed Ali Muhammad Ali on behalf of #HelpingACT. HelpingACT. 01.01.2022 Happy Father’s Day Canberra: A grand father with his two happy grand children enjoying a cup of tea. All children are flowers, grand children are roses.... Sincere thanks to Canberra Times, especially to Megan Doherty and Sitthixay Ditthavong for this honour. Thinking today of those fathers and grandfathers who are away from their children and grandchildren due to Covid restrictions in place or due to wars or being in refugees camps or are lone asylum seeker thousands of miles away from family. Please pray that they have a chance to see their children or children’s children today at least via screen if not in person. My thoughts are with them. Let us keep the flame alive, the flame of love and care for those in need of help. My thoughts are with my father also. He was a loving and caring person not only for his kids but also for all extended family members and relations. Rest in peace Nizam uddin Khan.
