22.01.2022 Chiropractic and Headaches! Unfortunately, headaches are very common and almost everybody has suffered from headaches at least once during the course of their lives. Outlined below are the most common types of Headaches : 1. Migraines ... Migraines are characterized by throbbing in the head, which can range anywhere from mild to severe. More than half of those who suffer from migraines claim that this type of headache appears mainly on one side of the head. Migraines are usually accompanied by several other symptoms, such as vomiting, aura, nausea or increased sensitivity to light. This type of headache is very common amongst women over the age of 45. Chiropractic treatment is an effective way of managing migraines - especially when it is coupled with Chiropractic massage as is performed at the Helping Hands Chiropractic clinic. Statistics have revealed that over 70% of those who have received chiropractic manipulation have reported a substantial reduction of attacks. We believe that migraines have more than one cause, and may be made worse due to spinal misalignments in the neck. These problems in the spine can cause chemical imbalances in the brain via abnormal messages sent by the nervous system, and realigning the vertebrae can restore proper nervous system signal transmission, thus reduce the number of migraine attacks in a safe, efficient, natural and side effect-free manner. 2. Cluster Headaches The cluster headaches can be easily recognized after the sharp and severe pain they cause - these headaches appear all of a sudden and they are usually located around the eye region. Although they usually do not last more than 60 minutes, they are very bothersome and they are usually accompanied by symptoms like nasal congestion or eye redness. Cluster headaches are very common amongst men between the ages of 20 and 40. 3. The Tension Headache Last, but not least, tension headaches can be recognized after the dull pressure or tightness located on both sides of the head. Sometimes, the pain extends to the neck and it is often accompanies by fatigue. This type of headache is usually caused by bad posture and it mainly affects young children and teenagers. At Helping Hands Chiropractic, we utilise specific massage techniques with specific spinal adjustments aimed to treat the cause of the headache, not the effect. The key to successful treatment is to go to the root of the problem. In conclusion, the team at Helping Hands Chiropractic are committed to relieving the pain caused by headaches without surgery or drugs. Our style of treatment has been shown to be highly efficient in treating a variety of headaches. If you suffer from chronic headaches and the pain interferes with your day-to-day activities, give us a call!

22.01.2022 Jaw pain relief and Chiropractic! The Jaw or Temporomandibular joint, known commonly as TMJ, is the joint which connects the lower jaw to the sides of the skull, creating the "hinge" which opens and closes the mouth. It is one of the most mobile joints in the human body and unlike other joints such as the knee, the jaw joints move both up and down and side to side. TMJ disorders stem from a number of different causes. Injury from an accident or trauma, constant grinding or c...lenching of the teeth from stress etc. Due to the tremendous amount of use which the joint gets through its daily functions of eating, talking, and yawning, it is further susceptible to pain and injury. The TMJ can even suffer from osteoarthritis just the same as other joint in the body. Discomfort can range from mild irritation to severe, nearly debilitating pain. In severe cases, the pain in the TMJ will affect the rest of the jaw and skull, causing toothaches and headaches. At Helping Hands Chiropractic, care focuses on treating not only the symptom of pain, but also to correct the joint alignment which may be the root cause of the pain. The TMJ is supported by a series of muscles which connect the jaw joints to the skull, hence correct neck alignment and muscle balance is imperative to facilitate smooth jaw movement. Our treatments are gentle, safe and effective. We provide a drug free method of treatment free from the potentially harmful side effects of pain medications. 20.01.2022 Can Chronic Low Back Trouble Affect Your Mind? If you keep ignoring that low back pain, you're might be damaging more than just your body. A recent study in the journal Spine examined the association between cognitive impairment (e.g., slow reaction times and reduced short-term memory affecting certain motor tasks) and chronic low back trouble.... Patients' low back problems were assessed and analyzed at the beginning of rehabilitation and six months later. Measurement of cognitive impairment was accomplished by having all subjects use a desktop computer's mouse and special foot pedals to react to arrow symbols flashed on the screen in random order and at random intervals. The study concluded that "chronic low back trouble (i.e., pain, psychological distress, and general disability) hampers the functioning of short-term memory, which results in decreased speed of information processing among patients with chronic low back trouble." If you are experiencing any lower back pain or related symptoms, here is another reason to give us a call today.
