04.01.2022 BOTOX DAY // What a long day! Started with being up early to ensure Harper ate breakfast before 7:30 am. The queue into the hospital to be covid screened was long for 9am appointments. Today we had our first ketamine sedation for botox. Neil was present for the heavy lifting although Dr Mike calling Harper a light weight! ... The Ketamine injection made Harper cry and within 5 minutes she was floppy and spaced out, her eyes didn’t close and it freaked Neil out a little (I thought he was going to faint!) Dr Mike chose three injection sites, two in her calf (gastroc and soleus) and the third had to be electronic stimulated to appear, I am not sure what it was called but it’s the muscle that pulls her foot inwards. It took Harper more than a couple of hours to come out of her sedation, with some very strange tongue movements and heavy head. But once awake she ate her jelly and vegemite sandwiches. And home we went. 02.01.2022 What a crazy busy week it has been! BUT WE HAVE A PLAN! ! We are ever grateful to the amazing people supporting us during this tricky time. We appreciate their expertise and guidance and the inclusion we feel in ensuring we understand and have input into the plan! ... The Drs verdict is that over a period of time of toe walking and walking with spasticity, Harper has learnt that pattern of walking. With the intervention of botox, relaxing the spasticity she is naturally wanting to walk on her toe but her leg does not work the same anymore but she doesn’t know how to walk any other way... so we are about to head into a period of reteaching her to walk! Twice Weekly physio sessions until December has been booked and we hope we retrain her brain! I cannot express how important parent intuition is, if it doesn’t feel right, it’s not right. What I know now is do not be afraid to speak up, do not be afraid of over stepping boundaries, and it’s ok the shake things up a bit to get the best outcome. #cpwarrior
