14.01.2022 LPSC Councillors, along with local builder Tim Hoswell, who carried out the work, have inspected the new kitchenette installed at the Royal Theatre, Quirindi. I...t includes benches, cupboards, power, and lighting, that will enable better use of the Royal’s facilities by improving the capacity for onsite catering. Additionally, a new spiral staircase has been installed to provide safer access to the projector/control room for staff and volunteers. Council was successful gaining funding through the NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities Program for the project and thanks Michael Johnsen MP - Nationals Member for Upper Hunter, who supported the application for this initiative.Tim told the Councillors that projects such as the new kitchenette and staircase were important to local businesses, providing stimulus for the local economy during tough times. 09.01.2022 The Judging of the Sunny-Side Up sunflower competition took place this week. The judges travelled to Quirindi, Quipolly, Werris Creek, Wallabadah, Willow Tree, ...Big Jacks Creek, Blackville and Spring Ridge over teo days, assessing, measuring and admiring the sunnies. The two farmer judges shared their knowledge, detecting chemical damage or explaining the variances in size of flowers, and measuring to find the tallest of them all. They loved the gardeners‘ creativity: some planted mini crops, others lined fence lines and driveways, or integrated sunflowers in their garden beds. Some were in pots, some grew a variety of sizes. And how to keep thebirds at bay? Check out the scarecrows! One garden had CDs fluttering in the wind, another tried alfoil glistening in the sun. The winners will be announced during the Australia Day Ceremony. Thank you to the four judges who really enjoyed their days filled with happy sunnies! And thank you to all the people who entered the competition, and everyone who grew sunflowers - we found numerous gardens that didn‘t enter the competition, and we enjoyed them too! A big thank you to the sponsors of the Prizes: Windy Station and the Liverpool Plains Business Chamber. Thanks also go to Therese McCarthy who filled the bags of seeds and last but not least the Liverpool Plains Shire Council for making it happen. Now over to YOU! VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE! Go for a drive, have a look at the gardens, and vote for your favourite by sending us a message or email, or commenting on this post. Address of garden or entry number displayed is what we need. Votes close on 20 January. There is a prize for the most popular garden.
