25.01.2022 In 2009 the winery was a lot smaller and at this point in time, we werent taking the whole vineyard for ourselves. We ended up taking for the first time ever E Block - a block which is situated on the highest point on the Western Ridge known as Mt. Rufus. When we took it into the winery, we didnt really know what we were going to get out of it.The thing that really made it stand out and the reason that drove the project was this particular wine just stood out as being totally different. What amazed me about E Block in this particular year was that it had an intense almost tropical stone fruit characteristic. You would have thought that we had co-fermented it with something white. Pineapples, stone fruits all sorts of notes. With a solid tannin structure and unique aromatic intensity. - Andrew Quin

Over the next ten days we will explore how the collection, the project and the wines that have evolved. We cannot wait to share this with you!

20.01.2022 Things are starting to flower here at the Farm. It is nearly time for our vines to wake from Winter - bring on Spring!

19.01.2022 For The Creation Shiraz 2015 we used our neighbouring vineyard Cambourne (owned by our Chief Winemaker Andrew and his wife Skye). This particular vineyard produced a unique profile with coconut, vanilla and nutmeg notes on the nose enhanced by rich vibrant fruit profiles on the palate. This wine was distinctive of the early-picked vintage and enhanced by using 50% New American Oak.... On Sunday the 27th of September 2015, a full moon passed through the Earths shadow causing a spectacular phenomenon known as a Blood Moon. Artist Sue Kneebonecaptured the ethereal atmosphere of the full moon eclipse as witnessed that evening over South Australia. Such a rare celestial event alludes to ancient folklore when farmers observed the moons natural rhythms for planting and harvesting.

17.01.2022 The Project, The Creation. Each year since 2009, our Chief Winemaker Andrew Quin creates a limited release single block wine that showcases the unique terroir diversity across the Hentley Farm estate and the characteristics of the vintage that was. After founding The Creation under the familiar Hentley Farm white label, The Creation now has an original label created each vintage by artists from the Adelaide Central School of Art, to portray the individuality, style, and dist...inction of this iconic wine. The Vineyard, A6. Hentley Farm is a single estate vineyard, with a unique diversity of soil, aspect and altitude, producing exceptional wines that show the distinct hallmarks of vibrancy, velvety silk tannins, and intense flavour richness. Planted in 2010 with vine cuttings propagated from the famed Clos Otto vineyard, the A6 Block is a remarkable example of the distinct terroirs across the estate. With deep fertile soil, and a unique southerly aspect protecting the east-west oriented rows from the northern sunlight, the block produces very small volumes of fruit with intense aromatics. The Wine, The Creation Shiraz 2018. Each vintage there are different reasons why wines for The Creation pops out during classification, and the uniqueness of the A6 Block was clear. It has an incredibly lifted dried herbal characteristic combined with florals, and red centred fruit that we see from south facing slopes. The dried herbal lift is a wonderfully unique characteristic from the A6 Block. An intense wine with a balance of tannin structure, complex flavours, and aromatics. It almost isnt Shiraz... it shows a real herbal edge which is just so cool, its very lifted with amazing aromatic intensity. Andrew Quin, Chief Winemaker. The Artist, Daryl Austin. Daryl has been a senior painting lecturer at Adelaide Central School of Art since 2001, and is currently represented by Gagprojects/Greenaway Art Gallery, Adelaide. Daryls work is collected by the Art Gallery of South Australia, the University of Adelaide and the Parliament of South Australia, in addition to several corporate collectors throughout Australia. Daryls creation is an intricate oil painting of the Hentley Farm landscape captured from the A6 Block, the single block used for The Creation Shiraz 2018. Daryls masterful technique is intriguing as the painting subtly shifts between degrees of realistic depiction; from a meticulous illusionistic image of Hentley Farm before dissolving into key brush marks. It is truly a painting of pleasure with its depth of detail.

16.01.2022 The Creation Shiraz 2017. We went over the top of Mt Rufus to a block called F1. With the wettest winter in 20 years, this was a wine for the Barossan Traditionalist. This is a wine that takes no prisoners. - Andrew Quin... The Creation artist Sally Parnis visited F Block on five different occasions in 2017, each time spending several hours making drawings on her iPad. Exploring landscape drawings from the same viewpoint, Sally highlightsboth the protective sheoak border and the beautiful pink soil of F Block. Each column of discs on the label represents a stage in vine development; flowering, early fruit, late fruit, and after harvest.

15.01.2022 Taking a look at this years Museum Release, our collection of wines highlight varietal diversity and most importantly the story of vineyard to vintage. A handful of wines stay tucked away safely in our cellar, it is nearly time for them to be released to you...

15.01.2022 In 2011, The Creation Project was challenged by a very cool and wet vintage. Given the conditions, we decided to hand pick the top section of the Clos Otto Vineyard (G1) two weeks prior to harvest. We rack dried the fruit Amarone style. Two weeks later, we picked the remainder of the G1 vineyard. We took all the fruit into the winery and fermented it together.... The Creation Shiraz 2011 was 50% Amarone style which turned out to be really cool, really interesting and super unique. - Andrew Quin See more

14.01.2022 Our Clos Otto Shiraz + H-Block Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon On the banks of the Greenock Creek, Otto Kasper planted a single block with two Cabernet parcels and a Shiraz parcel sitting side by side. The Clos Otto vineyard consistently yields super low quantities with ultra rich flavours.

12.01.2022 Since 2008, Chief Winemaker Andrew Quin has influenced the evolution of the vineyard with a focus on crafting modern wines from traditional Barossa varieties. Under Andrews care, our team is educated about the story of vineyard and vintage told with every wine release; each restricted in volume by the boundaries of the estate, and vintage conditions. We love sharing these wines with you.... See more

11.01.2022 In 2010, The Creation Project saw the birth of the wine now known as H block a Shiraz Cabernet. Fruit sourced from vines that grow on the western edge of the Greenock creek and a spectacular vintage described at the time the best Hentley Farm had experienced. In 2010 we ended up going through and tasting all the barrels; that was the year I worked out that von Kasper Cabernet looked pretty good with the Shiraz sourced from the same block. As a result of this, we have been producing H-Block from 2012 onwards. - Andrew Quin

10.01.2022 The 2020 release of our Luxury Collection is nearly here! We are excited to show you what our Chief Winemaker Andrew Quin and the winemaking team have crafted. Wines of balance, power and elegance, with the distinct Hentley Farm hallmarks of vibrancy, velvet silky tannins, and intense flavour richness.

10.01.2022 The Creation Shiraz 2014 was a tale of a unique vintage. A wet Winter followed by a dry Spring provided perfect ripening conditions. We sourced the fruit from J Block which is situated on the eastern side of the creek. For some winemaking flair, we bottled just the pressings of the fruit. This one turned out to be a big intense wine. - Andrew Quin... The Creation Artist in 2014 was James Edwards. James was inspired by Hentley Farms small garden and orchard where seasonal produce is grown for the acclaimed restaurant. The stylized pendants are interpreted from a leaf picked from the Hentley Farm apple tree.

09.01.2022 The Creation Shiraz 2012 was crafted with fruit sourced from D4, small patch of vines near our warehouse. The soil beneath the vines is extremely high in clay so when it drys out it opens up like a cricket pitch - a super unique and quite rare soil type. The Creation Shiraz 2012 was left on skins for 35-40 days and was the first time that we had done a complete extended maceration wine on its own. It has such a bold tannin structure, intense flavour showcasing the benefits of extended maceration along with fantastic vintage conditions consisting of mild days, cool nights and rain at the right time.

04.01.2022 Large format wine - to share or not to share?

04.01.2022 The Creation Shiraz 2016. We revisited the Clos Otto Vineyard (G1) although we made this Shiraz very differently. We only picked the top of the Clos Otto block which showcases a distinct softness and prettiness. - Andrew Quin The label for Hentley Farm The Creation Shiraz 2016 was designed and hand embroidered by artist Maggie Moy. It took over 90 hours to complete the stitching but it was a labour of love. The slow process of hand stitching parallels the art of fine wine making, reflecting the time it takes to develop and the attention to detail. Moys concept for the label was to highlight both the uniqueness of the winery and its location, whilst also visually describing the flavour characteristics which can be discovered in this elegant wine.

03.01.2022 The Creation Shiraz 2018 has an incredibly lifted dried herb characteristic combined with florals, and red centred fruit - characteristics that we see from south facing slopes. An intense wine with a balance of tannin structure, complex flavours, and aromatics.

02.01.2022 After founding The Creation under the familiar Hentley Farm white label, thoughts turned to adorning this remarkable wine with its own individual label to celebrate the release of the 2013 vintage. As it happened, Hentley Farm had an established and keen relationship with the Adelaide Central School Of Art as a sponsor of the school. Annalise Rees was the first ever Creation Artist, and as it happened this affiliation assisted in a natural progression to fashion a label worthy of this wine, and a beautiful synergy of wine and art was born. In 2013 Andrew had a flashback to the vintage conditions of 2009 and there was no surprise that it was E block the popped out and why change a winning recipe.

01.01.2022 One-third of greenhouse gas emissions come from the food system. Here at the farm, our menu is created to showcase produce that which grows wild in and around the Greenock Creek, to our onsite garden beds. From there we look to showcase the highest quality produce that the Barossa and surrounding regions have to offer. Chef Clare sourced these beautiful Oyster Mushrooms from our friend @thedairymanbarossa ...
