19.01.2022 What do these items have in common? They are E-waste or electronic waste and it is growing three times faster than the rate of standard municipal waste. E-waste contains potentially hazardous and valuable materials, which don‘t belong in landfill. To help protect our environment and recover more precious resources, the Victorian Government banned all e-waste from landfill as of 1 July 2019. That means e-waste cannot go in any kerbside bin.... Council’s transfer stations accept e-waste free of charge (excluding fridges and freezers). Small e-waste (up to the size of a laptop) can also be taken to one of our customer service centres Daylesford, Creswick and Clunes for recycling. For more information hepburn.vic.gov.au/e-waste
17.01.2022 GLASS RECYCLING UPDATE Hepburn Shire Council have been collecting glass at the Daylesford Transfer Station for a glass crushing trial. A mixture of glass and reclaimed concrete has been crushed to make a product suitable for road base which we are trialing. A magnet pulled out ferrous metals like bottle caps and concrete reinforcement then a screen took out plastic caps and aluminum caps and any contamination (rubbish) that had snuck in.... Although glass put in the kerbside bin is not included in this trial, it is still being collected in Hepburn Shire and being recycled. So keep on putting glass in your yellow bin!

11.01.2022 The Home Energy Assessments and Energy Savvy Upgrades program is a great way to make your home warmer in winter and cooler in the summer, providing simple energ...y efficiency advice and, for eligible participants, energy efficiency upgrades. For those residents who are eligible for the program, you may be able to access a free assessment valued at $330 dollars and a subsidy from the State Government of up to $880 dollars. Local sustainability group, Transition Creswick, who is leading the program has already received 40 registrations, but needs broader representation from all wards across the Hepburn Shire. Hepburn Shire Z-NET is now recruiting eligible households. Register for the program here: https://forms.gle/a1ia1b5uxXjeY8NX6 Or, email [email protected] for more information The program does have some eligibility and prioritisation criteria, including: a) you are have a residence in the Hepburn Shire b) priority for free assessments and subsidies will be given to households experiencing financial or energy stress (i.e struggling to pay energy bills/other bills). Assessments are also available as a fee for service, if you wish to proceed with a paid audit. The Energy Savvy Upgrades component of the program uses a co-contribution model, where residents contribute 50% of the total value of the upgrades and the program contributes the other 50%. I.e where the total upgrades are $1760 - the resident will pay $880 and the government pays the other $880 (the maximum government subsidy). Furthermore, the program has been cleared by the Department to recommence with additional Covid-19 safety measures. These include that all assessors have a mitigations strategy and that they maintain a Contract Register of all participants.

06.01.2022 Once something goes in the landfill bin (red lid), it doesn’t go away. It gets buried in a local landfill. If we each made just one change this year to reduce our waste, together it would make a huge difference! So c’mon what will you do differently this year to put less into landfill?
06.01.2022 Please contact Council if your bin is damaged and needs replacing (this includes missing or broken lids).
