25.01.2022 Much like the plumber with the leaky tap at home. Some useful information on why it is important to find efficiencies, automate, and take your own advice!

25.01.2022 For any small businesses that have experienced the recent garnishee epidemic emanating from the ATO, this is a must read. It may make you laugh, it may make you cry. Either way, you're not alone.

24.01.2022 Do you have a holiday home? Be sure to chat to your accountant about what you can and can't claim.

22.01.2022 Just a few small reasons. Much bigger reasons exist, but this is helpful!

22.01.2022 Stolen from LinkedIn, but I saw this picture and thought I'd share it with you. It's the basic premise taken into every client consultation and the reason we started HEQTIC Solutions. The first thing we do whenever we're engaged by a client is just sit back and watch. When we think we've seen enough, we start asking questions like "Why do you do X this way?" 9 times out of 10 the answer is "... because we've always done it that way." There's always a better, more cost effecti...ve, efficient, and productive way. Sometimes the answer is right in front of you, but the task is so important or repetitive or urgent that it just "needs to be done." When we're in this space, we don't look beyond the here and now. In that moment, all we grab onto is what we've always done, and the cycle continues. Find a better way. Release yourself from a never-ending cycle. If you can't do it alone, we can help.

21.01.2022 A quick and useful animation that demonstrates a fundamental financial principle that is just as important in business as it is in your personal life.

19.01.2022 Just thought I'd show you this tidbit, for those that feel the need to argue with their accountants about advice they got from a call centre operator at the ATO. Next time you want to argue with your accountant, just remember that the accountants have got the training and understand the legislation. The call centre operators at the ATO are simply reading from a script. If they read the wrong paragraph, it doesn't matter to them. Remember, there is no one size fits all approach to tax. That means that a blanket script won't necessarily apply to you and your situation.

19.01.2022 Working smarter is about using what you have to be more efficient and effective. This is a great visual lesson for all business owners.

17.01.2022 If you claim work related car expenses in your tax return, please take note: https://www.ato.gov.au//Medi/Car-claims-in-the-crosshairs/

16.01.2022 Should you invest in a bookkeeper? Some benefits for small businesses who contract an external bookkeeper from H&R Block's Mark Chapman.

14.01.2022 The crypto discussion in this article is misleading. Be sure to track all your crypto activities. Crypto to crypto transactions are taxable events and should be recorded, not just crypto to fiat. If you're unsure, please feel free to ask us.

14.01.2022 Some great comments from MYOB and Xero spokesmen. This is only the tip of the iceberg.

13.01.2022 Changes to the way Unpaid Present Entitlements (UPEs) are treated could have quite a big impact on a number of small and medium sized entities. Be sure to speak to your accountant about how these changes might impact your structures. https://www.accountantsdaily.com.au//11637-govt-clarifies-

09.01.2022 Scam Alert 21 March 2019 Watch out for a scam email pretending to be from ASIC.

08.01.2022 As of July this year, all the granular detail sitting behind work related deductions will be reported to the ATO. Right now, they only get the totals, so beware when claiming. This will enhance data matching processes to try and weed out false claims. If you would like more information, send us a message.

08.01.2022 The accounting industry has typically been behind in this area. Slowly starting to see paperless and other technologies being adopted in this space. How does your office operate? Are you paper-based or have you moved away from paper files?

06.01.2022 Employers need to be on top of Superannuation Contributions or face hefty penalties. Directors can be held personally liable for any shortfall, so be sure to stay up to date.

05.01.2022 Single Touch Payroll has been passed in the parliament. As of 1 July, 2019, all employers will be required to report payroll using Single Touch Payroll.

04.01.2022 For those considering the Superannuation Amnesty, it has been halted officially and those that self reported under the failed scheme are going to be subject to the same penalties as the old (read: current) rules. Sadly, it was never passed as legislation and has now been dumped.

02.01.2022 We have seen many clients that fall into these traps. If you are running a small business or considering starting one, please speak with your accountant first. If you don't have one, feel free to drop us a line and we can arrange a time to have a chat.
