22.01.2022 So many gifts from my garden. Lovely surprise digging under the oregano. This handful of baby spuds. ( I had used an old spud to try sprouting rose cuttings- no luck with that. ..but the spud had babies) Perfect addition for my lunch.

19.01.2022 Eczema and psoriasis can flare up at any age and any weather. Some folk have only scaly, reddened skin, with some degree of itch; but there can be flaky, weeping and scarring with colour changes and quite thickened skin if the condition continues for more than a few months. Eczema is usually associated with an underlying problem provoked by digestive troubles. Things that help : Avoid added sugar and all fake sugar. Don't have fizzy drinks. Minimise processed white flour wh...eat products, use a variety of grains in your diet eg the, brown rice, oats, quinoa, corn Eat heaps of green leafy vegetables Increase vegetable fats, flaxseed, olive oil. 1 - 2 teaspoons for children. 1 tablespoon for adults. Sprinkle over salads, vegies. Not with fried food though, avoid them . Using bitter green leaves, or kiwifruit before a meal can aid digestion. Sometimes a food sensitivity or allergy is to blame. Check for any other family/relatives with food sensitivities. Dairy, excess wheat, Ensure bowels are opened 1 - 2 times each day. Use chamomile tea on the skin to reduce inflammation. Various skin products can be used to help keep 'under control'. Try to avoid those with steroid cream, choosing natural ones instead. Herbs such as Marshmallow, stinging nettle, are excellent for healing. For further help to sort out the cause of skin problems, please call or SMS me for appointment

04.01.2022 Found these fabulous prickles in my friend's garden. Happily growing despite utter neglect :) On left is wild lettuce, the predecessor of our many varieties of lettuce now. Top right is St Mary's thistle ( Sylibum marianum) so called due to the milky stains on the leaf surfaces, which legends ascribe to the gift of breastmilk from Mary . Bottom right is scotch thistle ( Onopordum acanthium), with it's characteristic pale purple flower. ... Although they each have a use in herbal medicine, they are difficult to handle in the home garden and are best removed before seeding takes place. Wear thick gloves, as all of them have long prickles. They can each grow to 2 - 3 metres tall. St Mary's thistle is one of the best herbs for liver support, for such conditions as hepatitis, cirrhosis, gall bladder issues , detox after excess drug or alcohol use and general digestive system complaints. For anyone taking prescribed medicine, consult with your health professional, as St Mary's may speed through your prescribed medicine and produce a weaker effect. Both this plant and Scotch thistle have a seed which is useful as food and medicine, however removing this from the base of the flowering tuft, is likely to end in many finger pricks. If you do attempt it, wear thick gloves and use scissors or a knife to remove the nut/seed.
