25.01.2022 It's taken a lot of trial and error (and two tubes of Selley's adhesive sealant) to work out how to create watertight outlets for the bathtub garden beds, donated by Tom and Vicky. Think we've finally got it and will hopefully be putting them in place this afternoon.
25.01.2022 An extremely unimpressed Angus Young says a very merry herbsharing Christmas to you all.
22.01.2022 Fellow herbsharers on Drummond St bringing their A Game to the signage task.
22.01.2022 More presents ... not necessary but always appreciated.
21.01.2022 Might be an obvious thing to say but all that orange rain weve been having means anyone grabbing some herbs from the laneway at the moment should give them an extra good wash.
21.01.2022 And we are legal for another year. After a minor hiccup (where Yarra Council demanded to know why I didnt have a permit, forgetting that theyd given me a permit) the laneway garden application was approved earlier this month. Good news is that, because of the good campaigning work of some local people, the permit fee has come down from $300 to $50. Bad news is that Yarra in its infinite wisdom has declared the laneway is actually *two* gardens so has charged $100. Anyway, shouldnt complain - its just good to be able to keep going.
20.01.2022 How it unfolded (starting with some very handy drilling from my brother Josh). End result: two new bathtub wicking beds. Thinking one for basil and the other for tomatoes but happy to take suggestions.
20.01.2022 This is a very non-cranky PSA to say that this might look like a rubbish bin but is in fact a receptacle for organic fertiliser liquid (fancy way of saying chook poo and water). So not a place for food scraps and other unmentionable things. Thanks.
19.01.2022 We know most people know what basil and chives looks like but we have to admit we couldnt tell our marjoram from our oregano before we planted them. So we made some signs today, just to make it a little easier for everyone.
19.01.2022 We didn't quite realise our grand plans (hatched at last year's party) to introduce a Slip'N'Slide into proceedings, but it was still a great night of eating, drinking and general Yuletide merriment at the MacPherson x Drummond Christmas do. Even Angus made it, and generally tolerated the attention from all the smaller people present.
18.01.2022 And you thought all he did was invade your homes and demand affection.... It is a little known fact that Angus Young is also an A1 rat/mouse catcher, as evidenced by his latest acquisition today.
18.01.2022 Laneway Xmas drinks 2018. A festive time was had by all. Already planning 2019 version (possibly involving slip n slide - watch this space).
18.01.2022 Now is the time for coronavirus herb puns.
17.01.2022 Might be an obvious thing to say but all that orange rain we’ve been having means anyone grabbing some herbs from the laneway at the moment should give them an extra good wash.
15.01.2022 Angus rejoices at the arrival of catnip to the laneway.
15.01.2022 We made the Age!
15.01.2022 Its a bit late this year (because weve been away) but new thyme, parsley, dill, coriander and basil went in this afternoon. Will hopefully be harvestable when Summer rolls around.
14.01.2022 Three fetching purple self-watering tubs have been donated to the laneway. Before we put stuff in them, is there anything that were missing that youd like to see? Lemon Verbena? Curry Leaf?
14.01.2022 For those in the immediate vicinity of the laneway, we now have a communal compost bin. You can put most organic waste in it, but pls no meat or dairy products. For more info, the article below gives a good guide: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com//ingredients/what-can-you
14.01.2022 If youre in the immediate vicinity on Tuesday evening, feel free to swing by the laneway for some low-key neighbourhood Christmas cheer.

13.01.2022 Were not in the mandatory self-isolating phase .... yet. But if it gets to that and youre in the neighbourhood and youre stuck at home and need some parsley or whatever for your cooking, were happy to bring it around (in a safe way). Just PM us.
13.01.2022 "Your parsley is getting very... big. You sure it's not celery?" asked neighbour Sarah recently. It appears that when we planted what we thought was parsley (and invited everyone to take some) it was actually celery. We must have misread the tag at the nursery. Hopefully we didn't ruin anyone's dinner... Anyway, the situation has been rectified. And it's definitely parsley this time.

10.01.2022 And we are back in business for spring, after the regular winter hiatus. Thanks for your patience and pls give the seedlings a few weeks to settle in.
09.01.2022 Spring has sprung and its time for a little facelift for the laneway herbs. New sage, oregano, Vietnamese mint, marjoram, dill, parsley and regular mint are in their (mostly new) tubs but still too cold for basil. New little herb signs to come this weekend.
09.01.2022 Tarragon is finally in.
09.01.2022 BIG NEWS: were making herb snipping that much easier by ensuring theres always a pair of scissors handy.
08.01.2022 New signage. Hopefully more weatherproof than the first lot.
08.01.2022 Good basil still going up the back.
07.01.2022 This just popped up on Facebook memories thingo. Six years ago today I built this out the back and to the side so neighbours wouldnt pick the plants. Moved it to the main laneway thoroughfare a few weeks later when I realised that should be the whole point...
06.01.2022 The new rosemary plant is disappearing again because people love rosemary so weve had to cover it to let it grow. In the meantime, here are three easy steps to get some rosemary in the neighbourhood: 1. Go for a stroll and find some rosemary on someones fenceline (theres plenty around). 2. Knock on the door and ask if you can have some ... and meet a new neighbor in the process.... 3. If they say yes, take some rosemary. Easy.
06.01.2022 Makeshift basil has been installed while we put the main basil tub in a sunnier place temporarily.

05.01.2022 Someone mysteriously left these little homemade seed parcels in the dill a month or so back. We took them inside for safekeeping. Were they a present or are you missing them? Let us know if its the latter.

04.01.2022 Does anyone in the neighbourhood have any small plastic seedling tubes/pots they don't need?
04.01.2022 Always nice when this kind of thing happens. Thanks for the tiny chicken, anonymous neighbour.

01.01.2022 Hot tip: plenty of basil out the back if you need some.
