19.01.2022 Just completed tuckpointing this brick bungalow in beautiful Lorn. This suburb is full to the brim with magnificent brick heritage homes. It’s unusual to find brick homes around the Maitland area discoloured by airborne pollution, but the brickwork on this old girl looks barely recognisable compared to the dirty, stain-covered brickwork we found pre-tuckpointing.

18.01.2022 The lights are on - and the old Caldwell’s Jewellers Building in Wolfe St, Newcastle is brought back to life. A beautiful restoration and a credit to the building’s owner Hemi Mizrahi.

13.01.2022 Started work today tuckpointing this beautiful old circa 1880’s terrace in Bourke St Maitland. The ravages of time, pollution, leaking gutters and downpipes and some dodgy repairs over the years have taken their toll on this old girl’s brickwork. Watch this space...

11.01.2022 Just completed this Tuckpointing project in Adamstown for the team at Maricbuild Constructions. The brickwork on this 1920’s classic was ravaged by time, severe rising damp and a host of old, poor quality mortar repairs. Our brief was to bring the old Tuckpointed brickwork back to its former glory.... The talented team from Sage Painting arrive next week to help complete the home’s transformation. The before and after photos speak for themselves.

09.01.2022 Just completed Tuckpointed this beautiful old Kemp St Hamilton Sth Classic. Time, weather, air pollution and rising damp had conspired against her to the point where the original Tuckpointing was barely visible in many areas. One of our favourite colour bricks to restore, the final look is always pretty spectacular. I’m sure you’ll agree, this one’s got seriously increased street appeal!

09.01.2022 We recently completed Re-pointing the brickwork on this majestic old girl on the corner of Wolfe St and the Hunter St Mall. For those of you old enough to remember it housed Caldwells Jewellers for many many years. Positioned perfectly in the midst of the old David Jones building re-development, it’s currently undergoing a major re-furb as premium office space with retail at street level. We did a little research and found the building started out as one of Newcastle’s first milk bars. We had to remove lots of old rusted bolts from the brickwork during the restoration and in finding the old photo below from the early 1950’s, realised they were remnants of the Victor Ice Cream sign visible on the Hunter St side.

07.01.2022 Just completed Tuckpointing this beautiful old 1920’s duplex in Dumaresq St Hamilton South. It’s been unloved for a long time, but now undergoing a major restoration throughout, including reinstatement of some of its original features to the front that were removed in the 70’s. Can’t wait to see the finished product in the months to come.

04.01.2022 YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR certainly applies to the brickwork restoration (Tuckpointing) industry. A decade ago, almost without exception, it was an industry that only employed craftsmen and prided itself on quality work with exceptional attention to detail. Those that didn’t do great work soon found themselves without work.... Then along came the internet... It allowed those with questionable attention to detail and a penchant for taking shortcuts on surface preparation to hawk their wares in multiple cities; generally drumming up business in each city by conveniently neglecting to publish the city they reside in and offering cheap prices to unwary locals. Here’s a couple of pics we took this week of their workmanship. Both shots are of Tuckpointing performed in the last two years. Bearing in mind that modern day Tuckpointing should last at least 50 years, both homes have their Tuckpointing falling off in multiple areas in less than two years. 04.01.2022 We recently completed Tuckpointing the front and Re-pointing the side of this gorgeous Federation bungalow in Parkview St Georgetown. Alarine built circa 1915.

04.01.2022 Over 8 months in the making, the wraps have just come off this gorgeous circa 1920’s Dumaresq St Hamilton semi. The team from Goodwood Building worked tirelessly to restore the old girl back to it’s former glory. As part of the overall facelift, we restored and Tuckpointed the brickwork to the front of the property. How good does the finished renovation look!

01.01.2022 Last week we completed Tuckpointing the front of this small but charming 1920’s cottage in Denison St Hamilton. A long-term leaking awning from above, combined with rising damp on both verandah outer walls, created what was possibly the worst brick mould and decay we’d ever encountered. To say restoring the brickwork to its former glory was challenging - is an understatement! We even managed to freshen-up the verandah tessellated tiles whilst we were there. A great outcome and a client ecstatic with the transformation.

01.01.2022 What is Re-pointing? Re-pointing is a process whereby old deteriorated mortar (in between bricks) is removed to a depth of 15-20 mm using specialist machinery and new mortar injected. It is then tooled off and once dry, lightly acid washed and cleaned. Performed correctly, it will add structural integrity to your brickwork and as shown below, can add dramatic visual appeal to your heritage brick home....
