Liss wins award for story writing including a story titled Bill the Brumby Liss wrote the story after taking her children to experience the Brumbies in the Barmah National Park, Victoria. Hey Brumby lovers! As a few of you may know I am a Yorta Yorta woman and there was talk that the Yorta wanted the horses out of the Forrest, however my family and I have spoken to a few elders and they WANT the Brumbies to remain in Barmah. Recently, I went for a trip to Bunjilaka (Aboriginal Cultural Centre) and I came across Aboriginal work from first nation people including a gee-am or known as kerreem (spear shield) dated 1870-1920 located in Vic. On this shield was a horses in diamonds and the other one I found was a Kalti paarti (Emu Egg) dates 1990s location was menindee nsw.. So we as aboriginal include the horses into our dream time. We welcome them into the land of Man.
