23.01.2022 The ISS Institute Heritage Skills Initiative is drawing to a close. That means its time for project evaluation! Please take 5 minutes to complete this short evaluation questionnaire. Your responses are important to us, as this is how we demonstrate to our funders that we have achieved what we set out to do, but also that more work is needed. This is particularly important if you completed the sector analysis survey, as this proves that we have built a committed, responsive a...nd engaged community of stakeholders. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/323VSZN You will continue to hear from us, but this stage we have been unable to secure additional funds to continue the project. The ISS Institute is however committed to maintaining heritage skills as a core agenda, and we will continue to advocate and seek new opportunities for funding and collaboration with other organisations. Thank you to you all for your ongoing support and engagement with the Heritage Skills Initiative project.

15.01.2022 Its International Womens Day! Today we celebrate the incredible women of the traditional tradesforce, such as Australias only accredited professional female dry stone waller and ISS Institute fellow Emma Knowles of Stone of Arc. What a muse! "Emmas Fellowship will focus on sustaining and increasing the authentic art of Dry Stonework in Australia through the development and implementation of an on-shore accreditation system that reduces the need for people to have to trave...l to Europe to gain certification. Through this process she hopes to be able to offer an alternative location for international participants interested in dry stonework and help to create employment opportunities for unemployed people in rural areas, with a particular focus on woman and people from Aboriginal backgrounds."

07.01.2022 Last week we had the incredible opportunity of joining HSR Australia/Applied Building Conservation Training at the Jacka House conservation project in Burra, South Australia. The training introduced us to a range of building conservation skills, particularly conservation stonemasonry and preservation carpentry, but the best thing to see out of the workshop was the relationships that these guys have developed with industry bodies to make this model work, and make it sustainab...le. It boils down to those passionate people in positions of power; advocacy has never been so important. Epic experience, still buzzing with inspiration! Check out https://citb.org.au/news/heritage-trades for more projects. Also, how awesome to work on a historic building on the land that the Burra Charter was developed?!
