19.01.2022 At the height of a pandemic, Lorna Jane has been fined $40K for advertising breaches that could lull customers into a false sense of security about their protection against COVID-19 The business promoted their range of active-wear as 'preventing and protecting against infectious diseases', which the Dep.Secretary of the Department of Health said was 'wishful thinking' Making a claim like this constitutes a 'therapeutic claim'. These claims are subject to special rules and... guidelines to protect consumers who might be mislead into thinking a product does something for their health which it doesn't actually do. The authority found that Lorna Jane had not received the appropriate permission to make these claims. Businesses need to think hard before they make claims about what their products can do as it may cause harm to others and open them up to unexpected liability To read more go to the comments.

17.01.2022 Her Lawyer is proud to be one of the founding businesses demanding change with the MAKE IT FREE campaign Together with dozens of other Aussie businesses, we’re calling for the Government to reform the early childhood education and care system to make it free for everyone. Evidence shows that making childcare free will benefit children, families, businesses, the economy and (of course) women ... Our founder, Courtney Bowie, said in support of the campaign: I see everyday the impact that the current childcare system has on women, their careers and their mental health. Free childcare is an essential piece of the puzzle to increase the number of women in leadership positions in Australia and, in turn, better performance of Australian businesses on the world stage. To sign the petition and, if you’re a business owner, show your business’ support, go to www.makeitfree.org. We are proud to have partnered with many other supporting businesses, including some of our faves: Accounting Heart, Resolution123, Birdie Wealth, Compass West, Blue Bean Media, Parentmedic, Two Birds One Loan, Easy Legal Templates. And if you’re about to make a purchasing decision, consider checking out the list of supporting businesses and support one that stands for equality

09.01.2022 Our team is ecstatic to reveal that we've been selected as part of the Centre for Legal Innovation's inaugural Innovation Incubator! Chosen as one of only 3 teams in the Redefining Value category, we'll be mentored by experts John Chisholm and David Wells on our project, 'Revolutionising Lawyer Remuneration'. Our project is about reimagining the way lawyers are compensated in Australia. We're working to create a framework that moves away from traditional ‘money and status’... remuneration and motivates lawyers by recognising what’s really important to them. Our new model will reward innovation, diversity and creativity in the delivery of legal services. By assessing the holistic value of a team member and aligning their values with that of the firm, we hope to improve job satisfaction and reward lawyers in a more meaningful way. We’ll get started in June and we can’t wait to share our progress with you along the way!

08.01.2022 It seems like things have gotten even worse for women as we emerge from the pandemic... Big cut in female-dominated childcare and further incentive for male-dominated construction just doesn't seem quite equitable.

06.01.2022 It's important to our team to prompt and participate in difficult conversations as part of our mission to achieve gender equality. We invite you to join the conversation by reading Courtney's article. https://www.smartcompany.com.au//impact-on-working-mother/

04.01.2022 Gender discrimination in the workforce (pay gap being a by-product of the wider issue) + cost of childcare = gender inequality. The system needs to change.
