20.01.2022 Monday 22nd March 2021, Afterschool Care threw a party for Down Syndrome Awareness Day. We asked all staff and children to wear odd socks for the occasion. Why wear odd socks? We have attached a picture to show the chromosomes which some say look a little bit like pairs of socks. Sometimes people have an extra ‘sock’ or chromosome and a person with Down syndrome has an extra copy of chromosome 21 as you can see in the picture. We celebrated by playing Freeze Bob, Limbo, Musi...cal Chairs and Just Dance being the popular party games. Children won prizes for ‘best odd socks’, ‘best dancer’ and prizes were given for the winners of Musical Chairs, Freeze Bob and Limbo. Rick cooked Hash Browns with the choice of Juice or Milo for afternoon tea as it was a special request. All Educators and Children had an amazing time! Outcome 1: Children have a strong sense of identity. Outcome 2.1: Children develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities and an understanding of the reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary for active community participation.
