24.01.2022 Cervical cancer is one of the most preventative cancers. Early detection, via screening, when you do not have symptoms could save your life. The two yearly Pap test for people aged 18 to 69 was replaced in 2017 by a five yearly human papillomavirus (HPV) test for people aged 25 to 74. ... People are due for their first Cervical Screening Test at the age of 25 or two years after their last Pap test. The changes include: A more accurate Cervical Screening Test has replaced the Pap test The time between tests has changed from two to five years The age at which screening starts has increased from 18 years to 25 years, or two years after the last Pap test if the Pap test was done at the age of 23 or over People aged 70 to 74 years will be invited to have a Cervical Screening Test. The Cervical screening test is performed exactly the same as the Pap smear. It is a more accurate test as it detects the Human Papilloma Virus which can lead to cancer, rather than looking for cancer cells (which is what the Pap smear did). This means it can pick up the risk of getting cervical cancer much earlier. To organise your cervical screening test call us on 1800 BESTGP or book via our website. We perform our cervical screening tests at our clinic base at Ministry of Skin on the surf coast highway in Torquay. See more

12.01.2022 For most mothers the easiest and most efficient way to feed your baby breastmilk is usually at the breast, but there may be occasions when this is not possible and you need to express your milk. Expressing can be difficult. It can take time and practice but with the above many can get the supply they need. There are several techniques you can use to encourage your let-down reflex when expressing. Some examples are: ... Consciously try to relax, using whatever method suits you. Try to express in a quiet, warm, relaxing area, away from distractions. While expressing, breathe slowly and deeply. You could express in the place you usually sit to feed. Some mothers have a warm drink first or listen to soft music. Warmth (expressing after a warm shower, warm face washers on the breast for a few minutes before starting) may also help. Gently massaging your breasts by stroking down towards the nipple, and gently rolling the nipple between your fingers. While you can't actually push the milk out of your breasts by massage, you can help trigger the let-down by touching your breasts. Thinking about your baby and how much your breastmilk is helping her will encourage your let-down reflex. If she is premature or sick in hospital, you might find it easier to express near her cot or just after you leave her. If you are away from her, looking at her photo can help. Having someone support you. Many mothers find they manage much better when they have an encouraging partner or friend. Taken from Australian breast feeding association To get more support please talk to one of our GP’s, your midwife or Child Maternal Health Nurse or you can call ABA on 1800 mum 2 mum See more

06.01.2022 So now we are out of lock down and are able to move without restrictions our Medical billing eligibility for Telehealth has to change. Unfortunately you now can NOT get a medicare rebate for a telehealth consultation IF we have NOT seen you face to face within the last 12 months. Basically in regards to having a telehealth consult:... - anyone with a medicare card can request a telehealth whatever the reason - A service may only be provided by telehealth where it is safe and clinically appropriate to do so - As a practice we have decided that anyone at high risk of having COVID will HAVE to be seen via telehealth initially. In regards to billing for telehealth - If we have NOT seen the patient face to face within the last 12 months, that patient cannot claim ANY medicare benefit/ rebate for the telehealth. In this case if a Telehealth is required with us, you will have to pay a private consult fee with no rebate available ( There are some exemptions to this: 1) patient age less than 1 year , 2) homeless, 3) actually have covid, 4). live in a covid restricted area, 5). in isolation or quarantine ) - If we HAVE seen the patient face to face in the last 12 months, the patient can be bulk billed if deemed vulnerable. If they do not meet the vulnerable criteria set by the MBS, they have to pay a gap of $40 ALL telehealth fees INCLUDE a visit THAT DAY if required. We also wish to give you advanced notice that from 1st October the Telehealth prices will change again for everyone! We will notify you of these changes closer to the date. We fully understand if this isn’t straight forward and is hard to understand. We feel the confusion and frustration. If you have questions please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you for your support during this time
