18.01.2022 Wow - what a story. 4366 Trumps, built by Ken Betts in 1963/4, is now in the hands of the Betts family. An advertisement for the boat came up on Facebook Marketplace late on Thursday afternoon 13 August 2020. The seller's family had owned the boat since new and it is in original condition. Matt Rowley in Victoria advised Richard Gibson about the ad, and Richard remembered that the Betts family had emailed the Association earlier this year looking for a Betts Heron. Grant Betts, Ken's Grandson, drove from Camden to Wagga Wagga on Friday August 14 to pick the boat up. Ken died in 1967 at 36 years old. His son, Ian (Grant's father) helped his father build Herons as a child. The Betts family will restore the boat as a wonderful gift for Ian for his birthday in October.
17.01.2022 Confirming dates for the 62nd Heron Nationals: The regatta will be held from Saturday 8 - Saturday 15 January 2022 at Largs Bay SC, South Australia.
15.01.2022 Now here's something slightly different! No sure she'll measure......
15.01.2022 Just off the press - unfortunately, we have had to postpone the 62nd Nationals planned for 9-16 January 2021 at Largs Bay SC in SA. Continuing uncertainty surrounding border closures and quarantine requirements have made this decision inevitable. The Herons join a long list of other classes that have already cancelled nationals for next season. The good news is that we have booked Largs for similar dates in January 2022. Hopefully, the situation will have improved by then and we will be able to get together again. Other planned National regattas e.g. 57th Nationals in Canberra in 2022 will now be pushed out one year.

12.01.2022 The Smith family in Queensland are searching for their old family boat, 8098 - Hullaballoo... Ken Smith was one of the very original Queensland Heron sailors and he is keen to find his old boat and perhaps embark on a restoration project.
12.01.2022 Great roll up at South Brisbane Sailing Club on the weekend. 14 Herons on the water - it could have been an even larger fleet if more boats had been available. Here are 11 of them.

10.01.2022 Fascinating information from Michael Spies, son of Aussie Ian Spies who raced a Heron in the UK in 1967: My late father Ian had a Heron built in the UK for the Yachting World Bowl and Findlay Cup in 1967. It was intended to ship our recently completed 6464 to compete but the UK Association would not accept the Australian interpretation of the class rules. Unfortunately, the Nuns at my then school would not give me permission for the time off to sail with my father in Englan...d so my father sailed with a local crew in the UK on the locally built new built boat. As he couldn’t sell it after the regattas and my father thought it was a fast hull it was being shipped back to Australia when the Port Line ship it was on, Port Invercargill, got caught in the Suez Canal closure of the next 8 years. This was before shipping containers became the norm and the boat understandably perished. That Heron was never seen or sailed again. I think he reached a settlement over compensation in 1980 some 13 years later. Not sure of the hull number of the UK boat or if it was issued one there but it used the 6464 sail number. See more
