25.01.2022 I can’t tell you how excited I am to be recommencing rehearsals tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing you all again after what seems like such a long time. COVID restrictions will be in place but being such a large hall should not impact rehearsal too much. Please ensure you sign in on arrival and use the sanitizer provided to clean your hands. I won’t bore you with the feeling sick spiel, I’m sure we’ve all heard it many times now. See you all tomorrow! Paul

25.01.2022 String Ensemble and Wind Ensemble rehearsals will be ON this week. Jazz Ensemble will not rehearse. Given the current uncertainty in the community about continuing with social interactions, we wanted to confirm with members that we are listening to expert health advice and will decide whether or not to continue with rehearsals based on that advice. Kellie and Paul are ready to conduct for all members who wish to attend this week. Kyle has decided due to personal health concer...ns for himself and his family that he cannot and we support him in this decision. Under normal conditions, next week would have seen our last planned rehearsals for the term anyway. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and advise early next week if their is a need to change that plan. Of course, for this week and next, we will practice social distancing at rehearsals and sit a little further apart than we normally do. I guess if we are stuck at home for some period over the next couple of months that will give everyone an opportunity for plenty of personal practice, which is a good thing! Dave See more

22.01.2022 Jazz Ensemble members, thanks so much for a great rehearsal last night. Apologies for being a bit out of sorts, it's been a long week moving. I want to share a YouTube link of a piece I've arranged for us, taking advantage of our new clarinetist. You can listen to the arrangement before next week's rehearsal, and there is also a link in the YouTube description to download the PDFs for your part. I will have hard copies next Thursday for everyone, so don't panic if you have any issues downloading. Thanks again, and see you Thursday - Kyle https://youtu.be/RXMQePGQiMQ

22.01.2022 Only 7 of us at Strings tonight, but so much fun. Particularly during these strange times, making music together was good for the soul. Thanks Dom, Karleigh, Charlotte, Daniel, Oliver and Danny.

19.01.2022 Will we be able to play music together again in June? President Paul and I are closely monitoring government directions to determine when we might be able to resume rehearsals in our hall. In giving this update, I am referring specifically to the Queensland Health department directive applicable as of the 14th May (Stage 1): http://tiny.cc/enc8oz and to the Health Queensland's web site description of Stage 2 of the easing of restrictions: http://tiny.cc/5oc8oz... According to the current restrictions we are not able to operate in our hall at all, regardless of numbers or the activity undertaken. However, according to the Stage 2 details it appears if we will be able to resume full rehearsals after 12th June if we qualify under "Gatherings of up to 20 people: ... non-contact indoor and outdoor community sport". Of course, we are not technically a sport, so I will probably need to seek further clarification. However, further down the plan (under businesses and the economy) it states that 20 people are allowed in "concert venues, theatres, auditoriums", so hopefully we are covered by that one anyway. I rang Health and specifically asked about bands, but no specific advice has been given. I believe our Mayor and at least one other of our Fraser Coast councillors see the posts on this page, so perhaps they may help us to seek clarification? Secretary Dave.

19.01.2022 An answer to the last question posed here. It may or may not be okay for us to resume rehearsals on June 17-18 under the restrictions at that time, but the reality of the situation is that those rehearsals, in normal times, would have been our last for the term. Paul and I have agreed that it makes more sense for us to resume at the beginning of our normal Term 3 dates. This will give us the opportunity to perhaps have a full uninterrupted term of rehearsals, all being well, and with all the proper precautions in place. We now plan to start back on 15-16th July. Further updates closer to those dates. Please stay well until then. Dave

18.01.2022 Sorry everyone, no Jazz Ensemble rehearsal tonight. Had to go to ED for check up, looks like just asthma and an infection at this stage, but still waiting on test results. Just really run down. Apologies everyone, and hopefully we'll be back next week - Kyle

15.01.2022 Big thanks to the members of the Rock Ensemble for a fun rehearsal last night. Based on what we were able to achieve in an hour and a half, i think we are going to have a great year, COVID permitting. Dave

15.01.2022 Jazz Ensemble is defi Italy on this week, come hell or high water (hopefully not literally). Going to continue on the new charts, so please look over them this week. Also, if any one knows a drummer or trombone player, we are lacking in both. Thanks, Kyle

13.01.2022 A great idea from Maryborough Brass!

12.01.2022 No strings today. Text sent to all members. No strings today. Text sent to all members.

10.01.2022 Hi everyone. Sorry for the late notice but there will be no Jazz Ensemble this evening. House full of sic people, including a very sick little one. See you all next week - Kyle

10.01.2022 It's that time again! We are back to rehearsals this week with all groups meeting at the same time as last year; String Ensemble from 5.00-6.30 pm on Wednesday, Wind Ensemble from 5.30-6.45 pm on Thursday, followed by Rock Ensemble from 7.00-8.30 pm. As always, new members are always welcome to come along to our rehearsals at our HBCM Hall on the corner of Bideford and Colyton Streets, Torquay. We are right next door to the tennis courts. Participation in rehearsals is free for members and guests alike. All three of our groups are open to all ages, but we are not a teaching or training organisation. A reasonable proficiency on your instrument and an ability to read music is important, unless you are a guitarist or drummer looking to play along with our rock band, of course.

10.01.2022 Our Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble will return to rehearsals for our final term for 2020 as of tomorrow evening, 8th October, from 5.30pm and 7pm respectively. String Ensemble will be back at 5pm next Wednesday, 14th October.

08.01.2022 Our AGM is set down for 6.30pm this evening at the hall. We need as many of our small number of financial members as possible to attend this meeting. It will only last less than 30 minutes. We need to elect a committee to allow our organisation to remain legally viable. Please attend if at all possible.

08.01.2022 No Strings rehearsal today unfortunately. See you 5pm next Wednesday. New members welcome. Kellie

08.01.2022 Members Advice re Recommencement of Rehearsals: (Please read this post to the end because important information is included all the way down.) We are planning to start our rehearsals for Term 3 next week as per usual, with String Ensemble back at 5pm on Wednesday 15th July, Wind Ensemble at 5.30pm on Thursday 16th July and Jazz Ensemble following this at 7pm.... We have met the necessary requirements from Health Qld regarding Covid-19 restrictions. We must keep a record of everyone who enters our premises under current restrictions. To this effect, I will prepare a separate attendance sheet for each rehearsal as opposed to the monthly one as before. This will include columns for you to record the time you enter the hall and the time you leave. While we must keep records of your residential address, email address and phone number, we do have these on file, and I will only need to verify that they are up to date. Any new or prospective members must complete a membership form on entering the hall. Important: While we have sufficient floor space to allow over 100 people into the hall, if parents or friends come inside they will have to provide all of the required details by signing in immediately they enter the hall. Hand sanitiser will be available at the door and there will be hand-soap in the toilets and in the kitchen area. No food may be prepared or consumed in the hall at this time. During rehearsals, there will be at least 1.5 metre spacing between members, and we require that parents and friends in attendance also maintain this social-distancing. Brass players please bring a bucket! Regarding Fees: The will be no weekly attendance fee this year. Membership fees are due, but we have not been able to hold a committee meeting to make a formal decision about any discount due to the missed term. If members wish to pay at least $40 for the half year, that would be appreciated, but, I absolutely prefer not to take cash payments. Please arrange to make an electronic bank transfer to our Heritage Bank account no: 5649803 BSB: 638-080 and include your name in the reference field. Dave (Secretary/Treasurer)

07.01.2022 Paul and I have come to the decision that, based on the Prime Minister's announcement this evening, it is no longer appropriate to continue rehearsals of our ensembles for the foreseeable future. We look forward to that time when we all can come back together in music. Please stay safe and keep well! Dave

07.01.2022 Greetings, Jazz Ensemble members. Yes, we are coming back to rehearsals this week. Please make sure you've read the relevant info on our guidelines and restrictions. Please contact myself, Paul or David with any questions. Also, a personal note, as we have many elderly members (as well as a few immuno compromised members - myself, included) much like the shops and restaurants, if you are feeling unwell, even with a cold, please refrain from coming to rehearsals. As we are a predominantly wind/brass band, there's going to be a lot of air and spit flying as is, and even with the 1.5m, we are far better safe than sorry. I have quite enjoyed not being sick this winter thanks to lockdowns and restrictions, and look forward to keeping my streak up the rest of the year :D See you all Thursday night! - Kyle

06.01.2022 Here is a bit of a blast from the past (2012 at Fraser Shores). So happy that Kyle has brought this chart back into rehearsal. Love the sound of that flugelhorn! Go for it Lockie! I think this is my favourite chart from the last 20 years with the band. Certainly it is the most challenging bass part I ever played and I really enjoyed it. Good luck with that, Emily :) Looking forward to playing Feels So Good at gigs this year. Dave

05.01.2022 For Jazz Ensemble members, here is a link to a page which will link you on to mostly professional recordings of most of our current charts. To use for homework ;) http://hbcm.org.au/chartmp3s/charts.html Yes, this is a re-post, for the benefit of new members

02.01.2022 We've been severely down on numbers post lockdown, but the Jazz Ensemble is still going strong. Here's our mini band doing The Police's Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic

01.01.2022 I have created a new private group for Rock Ensemble to share stuff with members. Please join this group if you intend to be part of the Rock Ensemble this year: https://www.facebook.com/groups/532766527616029
