25.01.2022 COMMUNITY VOTE WITH THEIR FEET AS PARKRUN RETURNS After an enforced shutdown due to the pandemic Parkruns on the Fraser Coast returned last Saturday with participants racing back to join the Maryborough or Hervey Bay events. https://www.fcsportsmedia.com.au//community-vote-with-the/

25.01.2022 263 people made their way around the course today, spreading loads of Christmas cheer all the way :) With reindeer antlers, Santa hats, Mrs claws, presents and tinsel wrapped puppies, we had runners celebrating milestones and quite a few there for the first time ever :) Just a reminder that our little sister Maryborough parkrun is running Christmas Day and we are back to parkrun business as usual Saturday the 26th December ... - 27 - 64 - 66 - 69

23.01.2022 Just some reminders to please keep at the forefront of your minds. While we are all so super duper excited that parkrun is coming back, it is going to be a little different. We know our parkrunners are awesome and will do what is needed to ensure we are following all the requirements that have been put in place to allow the return of the of parkrun

23.01.2022 Yesterday we had 206 runners and walkers for our first parkrun in 37 weeks. 25 people decided to join us for the first time and 23 of our runners/walkers recorded PB’s. Big shout out to our volunteers Graeme, Lyle, Stacey, Kay, Fiona, Katie, Katie, Rebecca, Sandy, Ann, Vicki (congrats on finally doing your 200th run), Val, John, Jackie, Sandy, Julie and Stuart. We still have plenty of spots left for next Saturday (and the coming weeks) if you want to put your hand up to vo...lunteer. Remember without our super heroes in orange parkrun does not happen. Next week we are needing: X1 course checker X1 Time keeper X2 barcode scanners X1 finish tokens X1 photographer

22.01.2022 Haven't spoken to a fellow parkrunner in a while? Tag them below with a message to let them know you're thinking of them #loveparkrun Medibank

21.01.2022 Please make sure you check into parkrun either at the event or before you leave home via our QR code.

20.01.2022 Happy Tuesday parkrunners. We are still in need of a funnel manager, barcode scanner and photographer for this Saturday. Are you available? We would love for you to join us!

20.01.2022 We’re drumming up volunteers for this Saturday, parkrunners. Even if you’ve never had a go, it’s great fun and you’ll have plenty of support. Please comment below if you are willing to try a position, because we need 4 barcode scanners, a timekeeper and a photographer.

19.01.2022 Our volunteer roster for next Saturday is now full - all we need now is some very keen runners and walkers. Our setup will look a bit different on Saturday due to COVID-19 restrictions and unfortunately we can no longer provide water (so please bring your own water bottle), fruit and ice blocks. There will also be no key box so please think ahead about how to carry your keys on you. ... We also ask you to not hug, high five or spit. Please remember to stay 1.5m away from other participants wherever possible. Don’t forget your barcode!

19.01.2022 What a great start to our parkrun year with such a wonderful crowd! Unfortunately we did have a complaint from a member of the public, and we need to remind everyone that we have approval from Council to use a public path for our event. Although people may prefer to see cyclists use the road rather than the path when we are holding our parkrun, we do not have the right to suggest that to them, as they have every right to be there. This week 349 people ran, jogged and walked ...the course, of whom 49 were first timers and 38 recorded new Personal Best times. Representatives of 21 different clubs took part and we welcomed visitors from as far afield as Canberra, Adelaide and Launceston. For next week, we’ll need a Funnel Manager and a Photographer. Please comment below if you would like to fill one of those roles. The event was made possible by 17 volunteers. Thanks go to Dot BEVAN, Jean BURR, Susan CHALKER, Tricia COOMBE, Craig CUNNINGHAM, Les CZISLOWSKI, Darcy FLETCHER, Karly GOSS, Grahame GRONOW, Lyle GRONOW, Donna HARRIS, Angela NOVAK, Andrew PRIEST, John STREET, Marie WELLARD, Tassia YEO.

19.01.2022 We love first timers at Hervey Bay parkrun - and today we had some pretty special first time volunteers! From cheering on all our participants to handing out some finish tokens how awesome and helpful were the kids! Without volunteers parkrun can not happen. Are you due a turn? We still have a few spaces next week and the week after :) Congratulations to everyone that got out there today in the heat, some great pb’s, milestones and a huge amount of smiles.

19.01.2022 We are on the downhill run to the weekend and the volunteer roster is full. Please check-in with the QR code - either before you leave home or when you arrive - and don’t forget your printed barcode. See you Saturday

19.01.2022 Happy parkrun eve everyone - looking forward to seeing all you for the run brief at 6.55am tomorrow. Please remember to bring your barcode - the rules re scanning off phones has not changed - your barcode has your ICE (in case of emergency) on it and should be on you at all times during the event. You can check in via our QR code tonight, or in the morning at home/in the car, or at the event.... And it's been very hot this week - please remember to bring your water bottle - we can no longer provide this for you.

18.01.2022 Did you know that if you can turn on your phone or text, you can use the simple timing segment of the parkrun volunteer app? We’ve had a late cancellation and would appreciate a helper to comment below.

17.01.2022 Over the coming weeks we will share with you the simple changes that are required for parkrun to return. Tonight we are talking barcode scanning. When getting your barcode scanned please maintain your distance by holding both your barcode and token out in front of you for the scanner to scan then place into the bucket. We will have extra barcode scanners to avoid too many lines waiting to be scanned. 18 sleeps to go!

16.01.2022 UPDATE only need a photographer for the 28th. Plenty of spots left for the rest of the year! With only 14 sleeps to go it's time to start filling up our volunteer roster. Please comment below if you can help out.

12.01.2022 EDIT: all positions filled, thank you. It’s getting close - you can tell by the lack of parking at Woolies by 8:30am this week - and we hope everyone has a safe and happy Christmas Day Hervey Bay parkrun is not holding an extra event on Christmas Day but will be running as usual on Saturday - Boxing Day. We still need three barcode scanners, a funnel manager and a first timers briefing volunteer - let us know if you can assist.

12.01.2022 Way to go SA! Only Qld, Nsw and Victoria waiting to resume parkrun now in Australia. Who’s getting excited?

12.01.2022 One last post to fill your feed : Asta and Richard

12.01.2022 Update from parkrun HQ Queensland Health currently requires phone numbers to be collected for all participants and spectators to assist with contact tracing. This is not a straightforward process for three main reasons. Firstly, between March 2019 and March 2020 when our events closed, 95,000 different people walked or ran at the 107 Queensland parkruns while 15,000 people volunteered. 65,000 of these people had registered with parkrun prior to March 2019, which gives an ide...a of the volume of people who are signed up with parkrun who would need to be contacted retrospectively. Consequently, for parkrun to obtain phone numbers for all existing participants in Queensland alone, we would need to contact more than 100,000 people to ask them to log into their parkrun account and update their details, while also asking new registrants to do the same. Secondly, if we did attempt to request this level of data, it is not clear what percentage of phone numbers we would need to collect to be compliant with Queensland Health’s requirements. Finally, as borders begin to reopen, we must also consider there will be people taking part in Queensland parkruns who are from interstate and therefore we would not have their contact telephone number. As a reference, Queensland Health has previously requested assistance with contact tracing following a measles outbreak near one of our events in 2019. We were able to comply with this request quickly and accurately using the contact information of participants that was available to us. We are continuing to work with the Sport and Recreation Department, and the Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young, to determine a practical solution. Additionally, Queensland Health requires hand sanitiser to be provided to all participants in the same way as NSW Health. For the reasons set out in our New South Wales update above, we have requested our events reopen under the sanitising procedures detailed in our COVID-19 Framework.

11.01.2022 Happy parkrun eve Are you on Santa’s naughty or nice list??? One way to guarantee you being on Santa’s good list is to check in via the QR code. We have the code pinned to the top of this page and laminated copies around the start line of the course ... See everyone at 6:45 tomorrow morning :)

11.01.2022 It’s been A LONG time coming but we can officially share the news we have all been waiting for. 22 sleeps and we are back. Look out in the coming days/week for more posts about updates. But right now let’s just take a moment to be happy with the return of our beloved event :)

11.01.2022 With only 2 sleeps to go please remember the following on Saturday.

11.01.2022 Update. We still need a Photographer and Barcode Scanner for Saturday. Happy hump day parkrunners! Pop a comment below if you can help out!

11.01.2022 Well done to the 209 parkrunners we had yesterday, and a massive thanks to our volunteers. We look forward to seeing you again Saturday 2nd January. If you’d like an extra run on New Years Day - head on over to Maryborough parkrun for their 7am start on Friday

Please scan our QR code on the page before you come, or from one of the signs scattered around the start area. See you at 6:45am.

10.01.2022 **IMPORTANT** Please be advised at this stage Hervey Bay parkrun will go ahead as usual tomorrow. If you have visited the greater Brisbane area on and since January 2 please do not attend and self isolate as directed by the Queensland Health Department. Hervey Bay parkrun has done and will continue to abide by strict COVIDSafe rules including mandatory signing in via the QR code, as little physical contact as possible and safe social distancing. Hand sanitiser is available... to all participants and must be used by all volunteers. Please do not attend if you are unwell. We have a full list of volunteers and look forward to seeing you tomorrow morning! See more

Please let us know in the comments if you would like to scan barcodes or click the returning parkrunners on the timimg app.

07.01.2022 We have decided not to run on New Years Day 2021 this year in Hervey Bay. However our sister event in Maryborough is running on both Christmas Day and New Years Day - they are looking for volunteers if you find yourself at a loose end on either of those days and not too keen on running.

06.01.2022 Welcome back everyone!

06.01.2022 It's parkrun eve, and our volunteers are good to go. We just need you to bring your barcode and remember to help keep our community safe by being mindful of social distancing and using the tracing code (pinned to the top of the page and available at the start area in the morning).
