19.01.2022 You can now download the beautiful new digital poster for the 2020 National NAIDOC Week [8 - 15 Nov]. Shape of Land, was designed by Tyrown Waigana, a Noongar and Saibai Islander man. Tyrown’s artwork tells the story of how the Rainbow Serpent came out of the Dreamtime to create this land. It is represented by the snake and it forms the shape of Australia, which symbolises how it created our lands. The colour from the Rainbow Serpent is reflected on to the figure to display ...our connection to the Rainbow Serpent, thus our connection to country. The overlapping colours on the outside is the Dreamtime. The figure inside the shape of Australia is a representation of Indigenous Australians showing that this country - since the dawn of time - Always Was, Always Will Be Aboriginal Land. Check out what's happening over Naidoc Week at: https://www.naidoc.org.au/get-involved/naidoc-week-events Image: Tyrown Waigana, Shape of Land, Winner of the 2020 National Naidoc Week poster competition. @crawlincrocodile #naidocweek2020 #naidocweek #firstnations #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe

04.01.2022 Hervey Bay artist Elsa Barich is one of many artists exhibiting in this years' Waste to Art Exhibition held at Gatakers Artspace. This Fraser Coast Regional Council initiative is on display until 29th November. The artist describes this particular work as being a representation of a coral reef, becoming ‘unbleached’ due to positive behaviours and changes made by humans now and, hopefully, into the future. "Both sides of the aluminium cans have been used intentionally, with ...the coloured outside representing the coral regenerating whilst the silver/grey represents the bleached coral, slowly transforming. Gold has been used intentionally to represent the value of this natural wonder and the importance of aiding its regeneration". Image: Elsa Barich, Unbleached [detail of diptych] 2020. The Queensland Regional Art Awards (QRAA) with @flyingartsalliance aims to celebrate regional arts and the wealth of creativity and imagination thriving in the regions. In 2020, artists were encouraged to explore the complex notion of decadence within their own communities and households across Queensland both... in times of shortage, and in times of plenty. The touring exhibition continues to travel throughout 2021 to Texas Regional Art Gallery, Mulga Lands Art Gallery (Charleville), The World Theatre (Charters Towers) & Grasslands Art Gallery (Tambo).
