03.01.2022 Do your really need that silicone on your riding pants What kind of leather is your saddle made of and especially your seat What happens to your saddle when ...you are using silicone grip pants Do you remember the time your instructor put you on your horse and told you that this hour is just for sitting and you had to do a lot of different moves on your horse, just sitting in the saddle with no stirrups? These sitting lessons are so important! Or riding with a simple styled Bareback pad or maybe riding without a saddle! Perhaps you already understand where we want to go .... getting and especially maintaining your independent seat is so important! With an independent seat you are in balance on your horse and you will be able to follow the movements of your horse! of course also your horses will be able to move much more easily while he doesn't need to keep you in balance! What has this got to do with silicone breeches??? I think a lot! Because easiness serves the human. Increasingly in equine stores you will find riding pants with silicone and of course it is a great tool to stick to your saddle .... but can this way of sticking to your saddle be replaced by the quality of having an independent seat? NO, it can't, you still haven’t developed correct balance, your poor balance is just hidden. Remember, expensive pants are not going to make you a great rider! The best thing you can do is, take sit lessons or buy a SIMPLE styled bareback pad and work on that independent seat regularly!! In this way you do not need sticky pants to keep you in the saddle! Nowadays a lot of saddles are made of soft leathers and special grip leathers, these leathers are already sticky and combined with silicone breeches you are not able to move anymore in your saddle. Some riders using a grippy leather saddle combined with silicone breeches pants describe that they are sliding in their pants. For correct riding you need to be able to move your hips and butt! So why are we telling all this? Because these silicone breeches not only give you a false feeling of having a good seat, they also destroy the leather of the saddle, especially the soft grippy leathers! The leathers used for the seat of your saddle has changed over the years into an exceptionally soft and refined quality. Through this process, they are thinner, but they can nicely be drawn without wrinkles over the seat of your saddle and when maintained properly these leathers can go for a lifetime, but when they are exposed to riding pants with silicone the lifetime of your saddle can be reduced to a few riding hours! We recommend for all riders to be aware of this!! All saddle brands, so does have EDIX saddles, do have clauses that they do not give warranty when ridden with silicone breeches or jodhpurs. If you want to keep using those silicone pants, you need to be extra vigilant. We recommend for riders to train and maintain their independent seat and to use soft cotton pants or the old fashioned with leather breeches and definitely move and feel free in your saddle #saddlecare #softleathersaddles #EDIXequinearticles #edixsaddles
