23.01.2022 I draw my embroidery designs directly onto my linen background using a Frixion pen (always test first). I’m testing out some new washed off white linen and using pretty neutral Valdani 12 weight Perlé thread for the embroidery. I’m aiming for pale and interesting . There’s an embroidery class happening at Hettie’s on Thursday 14th January. 10-3 $60 includes linen and thread. #nottheroyalschoolofneedlework #valdanithread

19.01.2022 This vintage linen covered English box has been stored in our garage since we moved in 20 years ago. Inside is a treasure trove. Just one of the things are these beautiful early 20th century velvet curtains which hung in an old stone cottage we bought in Wallaroo in the 80s. Any suggestions or do I put them away and let my children deal with them later.

19.01.2022 I’m just working on one of the pages for Book Club. We spent the weekend at the beach and these are the plants that grow there. I’ve still got a way to go but it won’t take long. The background is a pale turquoise linen (one of my favourites). It doesn’t photograph well. I’m using 12 weight perle House of Embroidery threads. 16.01.2022 I started this quilt quite a while ago with quite different intentions as to how it would look. These are hand pieced hexagons to be appliquéd onto linen. My first thoughts were to join them with a turquoise fabric. But that didn’t work for me so I unpicked it. I’m much happier now. There’s still a way to go before it’s finished. I’m thinking of not backing it and just having it as a linen coverlet. All my thread is the same colour as the linen so my stitches don’t show on the back. But just in case I change my mind, I’ve ordered some gorgeous Liberty. #bigbloomsquilt #hettiespatch

15.01.2022 Day 1 of lockdown here in Adelaide. I’m playing with a different version of Amy’s @fromtheshopfloor ‘A little Christmas wall hanging’. This is a bonus pattern in our current BOM. I’ve made it with a scrap of vintage French sheet, Liberty fabrics and some washed French Linen. I’ll probably make up some kits when we are allowed back to work. 13.01.2022 Finished. Well almost. A little bit more quilting to do. My Big Blooms Coverlet. Made with a background of washed linen and backed with Liberty. It has no wadding. There are 16 motifs with black and white checked circles and flowery ovals separating them. It’s a large quilt and is soft and drapey which makes it hard to photograph. Pattern and linen background fabric available soon.

11.01.2022 All finished. This is one of the choices for next Thursday’s embroidery class at Hettie’s. I’ve used very fine off white linen and delicious Valdani variegated 12 weight Perlé thread. As soon as my printer has finished his Christmas break I will be getting this design printed onto a couple of different colours of linen. Kits will be available. Meanwhile I’ll just keep stitchin’. #valdanithreads #nottheroyalschoolofneedlework

09.01.2022 It’s not quite right. Just like life at the moment. I’m going to keep the shop closed for the next couple of days until things settle down a bit more. I will be in the workroom however, so if you need emergency supplies I can still get them for you. Just like this ‘not quite right’ bag I need to tweak. The handle needs to be longer. The inside seams need to be bound so I get a sharper outline. Still, I have more of this gorgeous Kath Kidson fabric, so, take 2 is tomorrow’s job.

05.01.2022 I’ve got a gazillion ideas going through my head and I can’t seem to pick one and stick to it. I’m attempting to sew out this design onto vintage French linen. Hopefully, very soon, I’ll be able to offer printed fancy work designs on 30cm pieces of vintage French sheets. There will be a few ideas coming of what you can use them for. Unfortunately I left my other stitched pieces at the shop, so they will have to wait until tomorrow. The first lot were made of liberty and just didn’t work. The background is a beautiful pale turquoise linen but the colour doesn’t photograph well.
