19.01.2022 Take the time over the holidays to have some meaningful musical experiences with your children. Encourage them to put on a concert for family and friends or put on a fabulous concert pianist on YouTube and plan with friends a virtual concert event at home. If you can,see a variety of live performances. Brisbane city hall hosts free concerts as do many other venues around Brisbane and ipswich. Many people take their children to the live carol events over Christmas and will often gift their children a ticket to a musical for a Christmas present. I hope you all have a wonderful musical Christmas and will see you all in the new year.

Lessons are $35 per half hour and are given by a fully qualified and experienced Piano and Classroom teacher with a Degree from the Queensland Conservatorium of music. 11.01.2022 Do you have a piano at home? Are your children seven years or older? This is the perfect time to learn piano as their cognitive skills and finger dexterity are at the level required for facility on the piano. In other words its the perfect age! Give the gift of music this Christmas and give your child a lifelong skill for which they will always thank you. Piano playing should be a joy. Something that is not stressful but releasing and fulfilling. Not everyone will become a concert pianist but everyone will learn enough to understand the joy music brings.

02.01.2022 Please think first before you decide upon the music teacher to inspire you or your child to play music. Often the decision is made upon who is the cheapest or the most convenient. If that is your criteria it is likely that it will be a passing fad for your children and their technique will not be well addressed. Bad technique leads to muscle pain, back pain, neck strain and repetitive strain injury in your hands. Pick the teacher who suits your child and know that by paying ...that little bit more for a fully qualified teacher you are giving a gift for life. Fully qualified teachers should have either their Associate of music in Australia (A.Mus.A, their Licentiate of music (L.Mus) in Australia or their Fellowship of Music (F.Mus)or their Teaching Diploma (T.Mus.A) or their Bachelor of music from a University or Conservatorium. (B.Mus) A combination of these is the norm. Many magnificent performers are not good teachers and many teachers are not fabulous performers (although it certainly helps), so pick according to what suits you. Have a free trial lesson with the teacher to decide whether they are a good fit. It it feels wrong during the first lesson (and you should sit in), if the teacher appears aggressive or inappropriate in their manner get out of there quickly. Your teacher should also have a current blue card. I have yet to meet a music teacher who was inappropriate with their students but have heard stories of aggressive teachers. I suffered at the hands of a knuckle whacker and for years after flinched if I made a mistake. I have recovered long since but I firmly believe that Music should be fun and enjoyable but still challenging. See more
