24.01.2022 S u r r e n d e r Another one of my favourite affirmations When we surrender ourselves to the sensations of labour and birth, that perfect cocktail of hormones does it's magic and labour unfolds with ease. ... Our body's innate wisdom to birth is left undisturbed. That's one of the skills you walk out with having undertaken the Calmbirth course. You learn to activate your own inner resource of relaxation, and with practice it becomes automatic, so when labour starts - you can s u r r e n d e r Bookings now open for Group Courses starting in May @wholebegins Contact Martyna if you need more info: [email protected] 0420 406 639

22.01.2022 Delayed Cord Clamping Did you know that approx 1/3 of YOUR BABY'S blood volume sits in the placenta and cord? Therefore, delaying the clamping and cutting of that cord allows this blood to be transferred BACK to your baby, which in turn has shown many benefits: It eases their transition to extra uterine life by supporting lung expansion. ... It increases RBC count (which is what transports oxygen around our body). It increases their iron stores wIth the effects lasting for several months postpartum. It increases stem cell count which is important for healing post birth, just to name a few. Even a short delay makes a difference, but ideally "wait for white". Reposted from @drsarawickham Many of you will already know that there are myriad advantages to leaving the umbilical cord intact, so that the baby can get their full complement of blood. This is not cord blood. (No matter what the cord blood banking people want you to believe). This is baby's blood. And nature designed it so that, in the first few minutes after birth, the baby can take the blood it needs. Unless we clamp the cord early and prevent it from doing so. If you'd like to know more about this, there are several good resources around. (I recommend you look for the independent ones, not those sponsored by companies who harvest cord blood.) There are some resources on my website, www.sarawickham.com, and I also wrote about this in a book that I co-authored with Nadine Edwards, "Birthing Your Placenta." Scientific research continues to demonstrate that there are so many good reasons not to interfere with pregnancy and childbirth unless there is a genuine problem which can better be solved with intervention. 21.01.2022 Introducing... O L L I E 10.03.2021 9:19am... 4.77kg (10Ib 8oz) 56cm 36.5cm Katie & Daz were the first couple I took through Calmbirth this year, on return from maternity leave. To say I was excited is an understatement It was such a pleasure meeting you, and I have so much gratitude to you both, for entrusting me to help with the preparation for the birth of your second babe.Thank-you dearly for sharing your positive birth story: Hi Marty, Thank you so much for your time doing the Calmbirth course with us again. We used many of the tools during the remainder of pregnancy and during labour/birth. Our 2nd baby and a much more positive experience compared to my firstborn who I was induced with and suffered mental trauma with. Labour spontaneously started at home around 2am on Wednesday 10th March at 41+5 weeks. We started timing them around 4am, where I was having about 3 contractions within every 10mins. These contractions felt like really bad period pain, in comparison to the intensity of the contractions I had with my first baby (who I was induced with), so I didn’t know what to really think was happening. We called the hospital and they said to start to consider coming in. We got to the hospital just after 5am where they asked me my birth preferences as they wheeled me up to the labour ward (my planned preferences included: water birth, salt lamp, essential oils and music, wanting it to be as calm as possible). They ran the bath for me and I was in that for about an hour, but found movement to be be restricted and wanted to change positions as my back was getting really sore. I got out and went back into the labour ward on the bed and continued to labour on my side with the TENS machine on (LOVED the TENS...was a great distraction!) and continued to practice my breathing (with some reminders) throughout each wave. * Continued in comments *

21.01.2022 The strength, the power, the resilience, the softness, the divinity of women never ceases to amaze me. We have an innate wisdom to grow, to birth and bring new life earthside, and to nourish our babes. We guide, protect, lead and shelter our little ones so that they too can flourish in their own unique path.... We support each other, dance together, stand with each other and celebrate one another. And so today, we celebrate International Women's Day May you feel held by your sisters, and have reverence for the divinity of you

20.01.2022 Thank-you for your lovely words Sam. It was such a pleasure taking the three of you through the course . . A testimonial from Sam: Becoming a mum was not something I had planned initially. I was head down in my career - post MBA - and looking forward to joining senior management in my field of philanthropy.... . . Cut to meeting my partner, and soul mate and my little man was to be born in Dec 2019. What a surprise! Unplanned but not unwanted. . . As is my way - I had to read and study what was to come. How do I best become a mum, and be the best person I can be for him and myself... . . My research led me to Hey Baby! and I found Martyna. After private lessons I was given more than I could have ever read in a book or online. . . Real life experience. This coupled with a true belief that we hold within us all we need to birth. . . Martyna said upon my first day of meeting her: "My births empowered me" I took this to heart, and realised that I indeed had all I needed inside me to birth my boy....Martyna helped me uncover it and for that I will be eternally grateful. . . My birth was very empowering and I did not worry, either before during or after - I learned to trust the process and give in completely to my body. . . I got my perfect little man, and Martyna was the one to show me how. . . I consider you family now Martyna and will be your biggest advocate 'till the end of my days. . . Thank you for sharing yourself, and your knowledge with us. See more

18.01.2022 Lenny's powerful entrance earthside Here's his birth story... "The intuition I felt with his birth, every moment, every descent, every gut feeling of what was happening in my body has given me deep reverence for women who choose this path. They know their bodies. They know their babies. And as a system we need to stop beating this intuition out of women and instead celebrate it, because it’s bloody powerful." 17.01.2022 B r e a s t f e e d i n g o n d e m a n d Did you know that how often your baby needs to feed is based on your own unique breastmilk storage capacity and milk synthesis rate? Neither of these factors are up for manipulation and are unique to each mother/baby dyad. What does this mean?... It means scrap the 3hrly, 4hrly routines which are poor non evidence based advice, and feed your baby on demand! i.e A baby of a mum with a smaller storage capacity will feed much more frequently than a baby who's mother has a large storage capacity. However, on average, both these babies will drink similar quantities of milk in a 24hr period. So, watch your baby - not the clock!

16.01.2022 Partners often enter the Calmbirth program not quite knowing what their role is in birth. On exit, they walk out with confidence. This post is everything When the time comes to bring your baby earthside, remember you are a TEAM. Sometimes as the support role you may need to do lots; other times you don't. Sometimes it's just about holding space, about connection and swaying that labour dance together ... Reposted from @2lifedoula And together they become one... he mirrors her actions, her breathing, her tears and her laughter. He holds her, and she holds him. Each other’s pillar of strength, warrior. Soul mate. They dance through her labour together as if they’d rehearsed it for many moons before. And they had. Focused. Present. Alive. The room literally vibrating with their palpable love that has been expanding within and around them for 16 years.... She is his hero, he is her rock . 16.01.2022 This tiny one right here, my eldest daughter turned 7 yesterday. Each birthday, I pause for a moment to reflect on her birth with so much gratitude. She may not understand it yet, but she is the reason I do what I do. Her birth was one of the most empowering days of my life. It set me up for mothering and opened the path to feeling into a deep trust of my intuition. I walked away from that experience thinking I can achieve anything Her birth was so much more than that mome...nt in time. Her birth has been a rippling effect of belief in myself. When you know what is possible in birth, you NEED to share it. You want others to walk away from their experiences feeling empowered, entering parenthood full of confidence. You want others to experience THIER power and to bathe in the magic that is birth And so THAT is why I teach Calmbirth. So thank you Rose Happy Birthday beautiful girl For her birth story, follow the link on my profile.

06.01.2022 Introducing Baby Rosie Where to begin. To start with I wanted to say how much Nick and I enjoyed Marty’s Calmbirth classes. We did them in the comfort of our own home. Marty made us feel so comfortable and her knowledge and passion was amazing. She taught us the benefits of remaining calm; not only for labour, but for any stressful life events. Being stressed and constantly running on adrenalin can be harmful for the body, and in labour can slow down the natural birthing ...Continue reading
