22.01.2022 The Calmbirth of baby Freyja I had the absolute privaledge of having my best friend and her husband attend my Calmbirth course last year, in preparation for their 4th baby...and 1st homebirth Here is a snippet of her entry earthside. A beautiful family affair where birth is just a normal process in life ... Amazingly captured by @veronika.sanderson.birth and wonderfully supported by Erin from @birthinginstinctsbayside and Robyn from @yarravalleymidwives

22.01.2022 That's a wrap! My last Group Calmbirth Course is complete for 2020 at Hopscotch Occupational Therapy. . Thank-you to all the wonderful couples for coming along and empowering yourselves with knowledge for a positive birth experience. I've had a ball working with you over the last two Sundays, and being involved in some great discussions about birth and parenting . .... It's now time for me to sink into myself, and focus on my preparation for bringing this little soul earthside. So grateful for @calmbirth , and that moment I first stepped into a group course 7 years ago in preparation for our first baby For all the knowledge I gained, the skills I learned and continue to master. For exposing me to the power of the mind. Feeling blessed stepping into this next birth experience . . Watch this space...I'll be back early 2021 to work with more couples #calmbirth #withknowledgecomesconfidence #positivebirth #empoweringbirth #heybaby See more

17.01.2022 That look of "I did it!!!"
15.01.2022 So much YES!! There's a reason some cultures do 40 days of confinement #repost @jetsetmama "I cringe when I remember when my sister gave birth, and I was at her house cuddling the baby thinking I was being helpful...while waiting for her to make me dinner. I never made her a cup of tea. Or ran her a bath. Or told her it was going to be ok. I’d bring a teddy bear and think I’d done my bit. When it was my turn, I literally had NO idea how to nurture and honour myself afte...r the birth. I remember how I thought ‘recovery’ was getting out there walking to coffee shops, and doing yoga on the beach...four days after giving birth. Proving to the world I had healed. Like I had something to prove. It has taken FOUR babies for me to finally realise how absolutely vital it is to nurture a newborn mother for those first 40 days after birth. How SHE needs to be the focus, more so even than the baby. She needs warm foods and herbs and REST. How our western society has stolen this sacred time away from women because we think being back out with a hot #postbabybod is some kind of #goalz. Because on top of everything else, women should be expected to push out a baby and look fine five minutes later. We are not fine. We should not be expected to be fine. We are still bleeding. Our organs are still trying to find their way back home. Our babies need us to be focussed on them entirely so we can regulate our hormones. And we need a lot of support from friends and family to do that. Because if, like most of the women in the western world these days, we miss this vital window of bonding and healing and nurturing, it can have long lasting [like, YEARS.] of physical and mental health effects on the mother. I wish someone had told me how to care for my sister better. What food to bring her. What tea she needed. How to massage her. So if there is one thing I’d say to a mother of a newborn- Stay in bed with your baby. You have nothing to prove. You are a fucking badass for sitting in your pjs, bonding with your newborn and accepting help. And if anyone thinks you’re being dramatic or indulgent. Throw this book at their head." Thanks jetsetmama
13.01.2022 A day late...but Happy International Day of the Midwife! This photo was taken by one of my midwives just after we had jumped into bed after Lenny was born. I am so grateful for these two beautiful women...for supporting us and preparing us to meet this little soul in the most perfect way. My most challenging, but most empowering birth So much love to you Lis & Ez @yarravalleymidwives @birthinginstinctsbayside

08.01.2022 6 years ago today I gently birthed my first @calmbirth baby into the world, in a waterbirth at home. Awaiting the arrival of our third, I am in deep reflection and gratitude of that day. . . This right here, is the most empowering moment of my life. I rode that oxytocic high and came out of the experience thinking "After that, I am capable of anything!". Her birth paved the way for something I could not even comprehend at the time. It sent me on a path to find my strength, m...y assertion as a woman and as a mother. It solidified my trust in my intuition. And it made me question, seek a path of consciousness and the desire to continuously grow. . . Happy Birthday Rose . I am so grateful for all that you teach me and what I continue to learn. You made me a Mother #birthmatters #calmbirth #empoweredbirth #positivebirth #homebirth #waterbirth #withknowledgecomesconfidence #changingbirthculture #physiologicalbirth #naturalbirth #motherhood
05.01.2022 I could not love this more. Reposted from @blissful.herbs "Sleep while the baby feeds" ... . .... Been there? Boobing whilst sleeping was pretty much how I survived that first year. . . . . Beautiful pic, Kate. . . Reposted from @katepavlovsky Joel snapped this photo of me and Huxley the other morning and I’m so in love with it. It captures the essence of our mornings so perfectly. Lately we have an unrestful hour or so somewhere between 2-5 A.M. during which Huxley wants to nurse impatiently (popping on and off, squirming around in the bed, generally being more wakeful). Then from 5-7 A.M. we always sleep more soundly. This was likely taken around 7:15, when he starts to wake up and I latch him to my breast while I snooze just a little longer. Apparently this time I was highly successful with this technique, because I appear to be deeply asleep and I definitely had no idea Joel was taking my photo #cosleeping #motherhoodthroughig #ig_motherhood #cosleepingmama #doulalife #momlifebelike #bedsharing #realmotherhood #rawmotherhood #breastfeeding #baby - #regrann

03.01.2022 Siblings at birth Too beautiful not to share Reposted from @positivebirthmovement Films like this one take cultural norms about birth being this terrifying undignified gross diempowering thing and wrap them in a big warm hug until they shapeshift into honey and moonbeams. Thanks for sharing @sacredsonghomebirth ... Reposted from @sacredsonghomebirth This big sister wanted to help catch her sibling and announce the gender. 03.01.2022 I've been pretty quiet lately at Hey Baby! wrapped in a postpartum bubble Our littlest soul decided to make his entrance earthside Wednesday April 15th. Born at home, in the water, straight into my hands Our girls slept through it all and woke to find a baby brother in their living room Our hearts have unlocked a whole new layer of love for this guy and our family is now complete Welcome to this big wide world little Lennon Edward Cooper.
02.01.2022 A Mother Blessing ...an ancient Native American ceremony honouring a mother-to-be, celebrating a woman's rite of passage into motherhood. A blessingway differs vastly to a baby shower; where the focus is on the baby. Instead, the mother is 'held', offered love, support and blessings for the transition ahead, and allowed to release fears in a safe space about her upcoming birth and parenting experience. Such a powerful ritual complementing my @calmbirth preparation. In amongst the chaos and uncertainty at the moment, it's hard not to stay in my blissful bubble after the weekend just passed.

01.01.2022 One of my top 3 books that EVERY pregnant woman needs to read!! "We would not accept being restricted in this way in our relationships or marriages, in our educational choices, or our career paths. Why, when it came to giving birth - arguably a pretty significant moment in a woman's life - were we using such passive language, casting ourselves as the 'permission seekers', rather than 'permission givers'? . . A brilliant read exposing the traps of our maternity care, our rig...hts in childbirth, how to own your birth and empower yourself for a positive experience. . . Milli Hill had me nodding, cursing and questioning. Definately a game changer for me as a woman, as a midwife and a Calmbirth Educator #howtobirthlikeafeminist #calmbirth #positivebirth #positivebirthmovement #empoweredbirth
