25.01.2022 FNQ R.E.A.C.H Arts Strategy has some ripper workshops coming to Cairns 17 MAY. Brisbane-based Liesel Zink takes a special DANCE workshop... Liesel Zink is is driven by the desire to create change. She has a particular attraction to working in crowded urban spaces and finding interesting ways of engaging with new audiences in the art making process. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance) at QUT, Liesel has performed with Tasdance, Phluxus2, Polytoxic Dance Theat...re and for independent choreographers Nerida Matthaei, Zaimon Vilmanis, Jay Baily, Elise May, Fenlan Chuang. She has also performed at La Boite Theatre Company (directed by Dave Sleswick) and at interdisciplinary events such as Brisbane Festival's Intimate Encounters evening (curated by Clare Dyson) and Metro Arts Crosstitch event ‘You Are Everything I Want You To Be’ (curated by Daniel Santangeli). In 2014 and 2015 Liesel will also be touring a new Dance Theatre work 'Shift' commissioned by Artslink QLD. This work collates over 50 interviews with school children and information from the Bullying. No Way! Campaign to address the issue of bullying in schools. 25.01.2022 Youth Arts Queensland closes its doors after 25 years. They will soon announce an organisation to whom they are giving their assets and intellectual property to to keep the youth arts flame alive and continue to help young and emerging artists. It's sad to say goodbye, thank you for all your support YAQ staff!

24.01.2022 Our inaugural Heyday Festival in 2012 was made possible by the inviting and nurturing arms of Artshouse (Cairns) and the man at the helm Nicholas Mills. Thank you for your cultural contribution to so many Nick, we hope your experience with Arts House over the past four years was a fulfilling one, all the best with your next venture. Heyday is on the shelf at the moment but we hope to progress the project with lateral thinking and a relaxed approach and team. <3

19.01.2022 Laura Yinfoo was part of our Heyday Festival Creative Young Stars Mentoring Program in 2013 and an asset to the Heyday 2013 photography team, we wanted to send out a BIG CONGRATS to her for a film she made in 2013 "Conrad is Clever" that won the 2013 Northern Lights Film Festival and generated awareness about disability, and since won her the Community Awareness award at the annual Queensland Disability Awards. Keep up the mad work Laura!

It's a kick ass Kickstarter from a studio he wrote the screenplay Levare for called Honeydew Studios based in Brisbane. This is another exciting example of the talent of young creatives from Cairns, which we love! Alex worked with us from June 2011 providing advice and support in the development and delivery of Heyday Festival 2012 and 2013. As a key partner YAQ/Alex joined us at Centre of Contemporary Arts Cairns for Heyday 2013 and saw their contribution firsthand while also offering a series of workshops. We valued your contribution Alex and wish you all the best with your future projects. :)

Chris Bennie is a New Zealand born artist living and working in Brisbane. He lectures in Digital Art and New Media at Griffith University's Queensland College of Art and is the Exhibitions and Public Programs Officer at the Griffith University Art Gallery. His artwork has been included in numerous nati...onal and international exhibitions. More info: http://www.chrisbennie.com/ This MEDIA workshop provides a platform for participants to learn about video production. By focusing on developing skills in videoing, editing, sound and lighting, participants will produce their own video artworks or documentaries. The workshop includes a mixture of technical training as well as hands on experimentation to produce a short video project.
