23.01.2022 The Flanders poppy, grew profusely in the trenches and craters of war zones of Belgium due to exposed seeds by artillery shells and shrapnel in stirred up earth.... The poppy became the symbol of the war dead. It was seen as representing the souls of those who died between 1914 and 1918, transformed into a million blood-red flowers. In Australia, wreaths of poppies are placed at memorials and honour boards on ANZAC Day. Traditionally, worn single poppies belong to Remembrance Day. The Poppies with Purpose initiative is part of Cobden’s Heytesbury Haven project which provides respite for returned veterans who live with the pain, stress and anxiety of Australia’s conflicts and their roles in them. Please follow the link for contact details if you wish to get involved. https://www.heytesburyhouse.com.au/heytesbury-haven-help-v/ https://www.heytesburyhouse.com.au/join-the-poppies-with-p/ Lest we forget. #anzac #flanders #poppies

14.01.2022 Helen Smith at Cobden Sewing Machines has been supporting Heytesbury Haven from the very beginning. Her wonderful shop has so much more than just sewing machines! Tempt your tastebuds with old fashioned lollies, or browse her selection of materials and unique giftware. Thank you Helen, we greatly appreciate your contributions, as do our veterans. https://www.facebook.com/cobdensewing #heytesburyhaven #heytesburyhouse #cobdenbusinessnetwork #veteransupport #australianveterans #soldieron #thankyouforyourservice #buyfromthebush #communitysupport #cobden3266 #corangamiteshire

12.01.2022 This morning we paid our respect to the Men and Woman who have served our country by attending the dawn service from our driveway. The photo is of my Great Great Uncle who I recently learnt was at Gallipoli and then later at the Western Front. LEST WE FORGET.

01.01.2022 Beautiful, isn't it? But there's more than beauty to these badges. Beaufort-based sculptor Ron Davis crafts them from the metal of used bullets, to raise awareness of the issue of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in returned servicemen and women. How will you be marking #AnzacDay2020?
