25.01.2022 Memorable moments All Star Challenge scores 10 out of 10 During January we ran the 10th Mainline DynoLog Dynamometers All Star Challenge and certainly did it i...n style. In front of a packed house and with a record number of 40 cars lined up in the pits. We had Knoxville Nationals Champions & World of Outlaw drivers mixed in with the All Star Teams all trying to pick up the $10K on offer to the winner. Shane Stewart, Tim Kaeding & Tim Shaffer all parked up in the pits at Simpson. We also had a relatively unknown young 20 year old American turn up unexpectedly after a wash out at Valvoline Raceway. Kalib Henry was driving for Perrett Family Racing and with Trevor Green as Crew Chief. Trevor was on the phone almost immediately after the washout was announced trying to get a 360 engine. The team drove 12 hours from Sydney, the motor came 10 hours out of South Australia and the 2 met at Simpson. 410 out and the 360 in and the team dominated the show with the young Henry taking quickly to the little bull ring. Drivers put on a clinic but Henry was the one to lock his name into the record books and pick up the 10K. 23.01.2022 Milburn Is The New Australian 360ci Sprintcar Champ By Sprintcars Australia Brett Milburn has joined the list of Australian 360ci Sprintcar Champions after winn...ing the 2020 South West Conveyancing Australian 360ci Sprintcar Championship at the Heytesbury Stockfeeds Simpson Speedway. After trailing early race leader David Murcott they traded the lead on a several occasions early until Milburn stamped his authority on the race on lap 10 and from that point he went on to claim the Australian Championship ahead of a fast finishing Jordyn Charge, with Charles Hunter completing the all Victorian podium. Its been a childhood dream to win a Australian Championship in a Sprintcar and I couldnt be happier or prouder of the boys for giving me a car that I could race with (David) Murcott, before he had the flat tyre, and to run the 40 laps and lead close to 30 of them and then go onto win it is something that I will never forget commented the new Australian 360ci Sprintcar Champion. For Milburn it was a title that was 16 years in the making having started on the front row alongside eventual winner Stephen Bell in the inaugural 360ci Sprintcar Title in 2004 at Mildura. The closing stages of the race proved to be extremely exciting as Charge threw everything at Miburn, but he would come up .183 seconds short as he made a last corner effort to take the lead. That was a bit of a bin it or win it move in the last corner, but it was for an Australian Championship, I had to have a go added Charge. Fourth place went to South Australian Mark Caruso who held down third during the mid-point of the race, but he couldnt hold off Hunter to claim another podium. Fellow South Australian Dan Evans recorded his second consecutive top 5 result in the Australian Title as he finished fifth. Tim Van Ginneken, Brenten Farrer, Chris Soloman, Paul Soloman and Tony Moule rounded out the top 10. In addition to David Murcott, who retired with a flat right rear tyre while running second, several drivers didnt finish including Terry Pitt who rolled after contact with John Vogels, Brendan Guerin who rolled on the front straight and former Australian Champion Chad Ely. The night also saw the final three heats conducted with an inverted top six with John Vogels, Brenten Farrer and Brendan Guerin collecting a heat win. The B-Main saw Tony Moule, Phil Lock, Brett Smith and James Aranyosi transfer into the 40 lap Championship A-Main, the latter being elevated into the field after Jarman Dalitz was relegated two spots after the chequered flag. The 2021 Australian 360ci Sprintcar Championship will be conducted at the Murray Machining and Sheds Speedway at Murray Bridge between March 25 & 27 2021. 05.01.2022 Event Cancelled: Saturday 4th April. Simpson Speedway Fans, Racers and Officials/Volunteers,... Due to the current Coronavirus situation and in line with the national health officer Brendan Murphys communication that all gatherings expected to be greater than 500 people or more should be cancelled or locked down, we have come to the decision that we have no option but to cancel our last meeting that was scheduled for Saturday 4th April 2020. The committee has not taken this decision lightly, but with the risk of things getting worse, we are thinking of the health and wellbeing of the Competitors, Race Fans and the Volunteers of the club. 04.01.2022 TRACK FOCUS: SIMPSON FLIES AHEAD In the heart of Southwestern Victoria, tucked away in picturesque prime dairy farm country is Heytesbury Stockfeeds Simpson Spe...edway. Racing commenced at the venue back in 1974 and has continued to provide spectacular racing for a remarkable 46 years. The committee and dedicated volunteers have worked tirelessly to make the venue what it is today, with a number of major capital works completed in the last few years that will stand the club in good stead for the future. Safety improvements have been a welcome addition including the upgrade of the concrete safety fence. Replacing the unsuitable Armco (top pic) by increasing the height around the entire perimeter was a mammoth task over the previous two off-seasons. Led by Club President Alan Symons and his team of hardworking committee, club members & valued sponsors they faced many challenges including the ever-changing weather and the enormous number of hours spent by all. Concrete infield barriers on both the front, back stretch and corners have also vastly improved infield safety whilst racing is in operation. Other significant improvements include the upgrade of the infield track lighting, which involved the replacement of existing ageing halogen lights with brand new LED lighting. This has significantly improved vision for competitors & spectators alike, along with improving TV coverage. Darren Leersen was the driving force behind the project, and they were absolutely thrilled when announced they had been successful in the Victorian Government initiative Pick My Project. Facility upgrades have taken shape including increased capacity in four corporate boxes, which now enable the venue to host a total of 46 patrons. There are new canteens and commercial cool room facilities, disabled access to amenities and the addition of hot water facilities to showers. Competitor and official comforts have taken shape with the installation of a concrete floor to the large machinery shed including a concrete wash bay for competitors to utilise. There are so many more achievements that Heytesbury Stockfeeds Simpson Speedway have made, and they are always thinking ahead and planning for the future. Plans to install a grandstand at the back of Turn 1 for increased spectator comfort are earmarked to be completed prior to next season.
