25.01.2022 When was the last time you cleaned out the crumbs in your toaster? Did you know Cooking in the kitchen is the single largest cause of fires in the home.

20.01.2022 Do you or someone you love use electric blankets? Last Monday 29th June, a 74 year old lady is lucky to still be alive. Fortunately rescued just in time by a ...neighbour when he heard the screams and is recovering in hospital. The house albeit destroyed and uninsured can be replaced. Lives Can Not Be! PLEASE follow these tips and check your electric blanket for faults TODAY. At the first sign of wear, replace the blanket or have it checked by a qualified electrician Keep the blanket flat on the bed and ensure controls and cords are not twisted or caught between the bed and mattress Don't place heavy objects on the bed while the blanket is on. Never sleep with your blanket on, even on low. Don't leave your blanket on during the day

06.01.2022 Residents in Portland and Bolwarra may see or smell smoke from planned burning taking place south of Bolwarra today, in bushland off the Princes Highway. Fores...t Fire Management Victoria crews will carry out a planned burn, approximately eight hectares in size, that will reduce bushfire fuel near homes and properties. As FFMVic looks for opportunities to manage bushfire risk all year round, FFMVic is taking advantage of the conditions created by the heavy summer rains and commencing planned burning during what would usually be the peak of the fire season. We understand that smoke from planned burns may cause concern and encourage those who are sensitive to smoke to remain indoors and keep windows closed until the smoke passes. Under the current public health advice, our planned burning program can continue for now. If that advice changes, we will make any adjustments necessary in consultation with Victorian Department of Health & Human Services, Environment Protection Authority Victoria, CFA (Country Fire Authority) and Vic Emergency. Our crews are adhering to appropriate physical distancing and hygiene requirements to ensure we can safely continue operations across the state. To find out when and where planned burns are happening near you go to www.vic.gov.au/plannedburns or call 1800 226 226.

06.01.2022 Fire Danger Ratings tell you how a fire will behave if one starts. If a fire starts on an Extreme or Code Red day it will be unpredictable, uncontrollable and fast moving. On these days, avoid fire prone areas (such as dense bush and thick grass) for the day #PlanActSurvive

05.01.2022 Thank you to Peter Sutton and the Heywood CFA for the show bags they have donated to the kinder. One of the first and hopefully more to come, from our Heywood Kinder Community Project.

03.01.2022 A little bit of information

03.01.2022 Burning off grass, stubble, weeds, undergrowth or other vegetation is generally permitted outside the Fire Danger Period. Local laws on burn-offs can apply year...-round. Check with your local council before lighting up. Before burning off: > Check and follow local regulations or laws set down by CFA or your local council > Notify neighbours at least two hours before starting the burn > Notify the Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority (ESTA) on 1800 668 511 > Check the weather forecast for the day of the burn and a few days afterwards > Check the fuel moisture conditions Establish a fire break of no less than three metres cleared of all flammable material > Make sure there are enough people to monitor, contain and extinguish the burn safely and effectively. Register your burn-off All burn-offs should be registered with ESTA on 1800 668 511. Please provide the following information about your burn-off when registering: > Location > Date and expected start and finish times > Estimated size > What you intend to burn Unregistered burn-offs can cause brigades to be called out unnecessarily.

01.01.2022 National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to say a very BIG THANK YOU to all volunteers who give their time to helping their communities when we need them most.... The 2019/20 fire season brought incredible challenges, which we couldn’t have faced without the critical role of CFA volunteers. CFA volunteers are our friends and family and take on many roles to fulfil our mission of protecting life and property. Thank you, not only this week but the 365 days of the year you are there for each and every one of us!
