18.01.2022 MY INSURANCE COVERS & COVID-19 Frequently Asked Questions Does my Life Insurance policy exclude Pandemics? Life insurance policies do not exclude claims for death or disability due to an injury or sickness as a result of a pandemic. Currently, this remains the case for policies issued after the COVID-19 pandemic was declared, providing there has been full disclosure at the time of underwriting on any symptoms, medical tests or diagnosis.... What if I’ve been forced to take unpaid leave or have lost my job can I claim on my Income Protection Policy? No. Income protection covers you if you are unable to work because of sickness or injury. Are there any policy provisions or premium relief options for financial hardship? The majority of insurers DO have options available to you to prevent you from having to cancel these crucial covers. Each individual Insurer has their own specific definition so please read your relevant Product Disclosure Statement for confirmation or contact our office for assistance. If I can’t afford my insurances should I cancel them? No. Now more than ever during these uncertain times these covers are crucial to support you and your family in the time of need. We are also unsure of how COVID-19 is going to affect applying for covers in the future so if you have covers in place you should take every measure to ensure these covers do not cancel, there are many alternatives available before taking this last resort so please ring our office to discuss before making any decisions. We are here to help you. What if I’ve been forced to self-isolate and can’t work can I claim on my Income Protection Policy? No. Income protection covers you if you are unable to work because of sickness or injury. However - if you contract the virus and are unable to work for longer than the waiting period on your policy and meet all other terms of your policy, you may be eligible to claim on your policy.
