11.01.2022 When a customer comes to us with a specific application and power level in mind, we try a to put as much thought into the build on paper first. Using something like this gear calculator we can see the road speed versus engine speed for all gears in this close ratio set. We also see what rpm we shift to grab the next gear. With a range of final drive and gear options out there it’s easy to tune the gearbox for the engine power and torque curve. ... This particular application will be used on a supercharged k20 street car. The linear power curve of the supercharger means we can utilise a 4.7 final drive with an Mfactory short ratio drag gear set 1st-4th, OEM 5th and a TSX 6th for 2500rpm 100km/h cruising! #hgg_melbourne #spoonsports #kswap #kswapeg #kswapek #hondaracing #vtec_society #vtecnation #hondaappreciation #kseriesonly #kswapbaby #k20a #lsd #gearboxrepair #hondaclub #hondaclubmelbourne #hondasociety #mfactory #synchrotech #carbonsynchros #bseriesturbo #b18turbo #ntnbearings #skunk2 #ktuned #hybridracing #bseries #kswap #kseriesonly
07.01.2022 Thursday Teachings! 1. Helical LSD. Same style as used in type R Hondas 2. Clutch type LSD. Used in race cars or hardcore track/street car. ... I get a lot of queries asking what is the difference between a helical and clutch type LSD. We all know an LSD attempts to distribute power between both wheels and prevents wheel spin (or SLIP) when one wheel experiences a low traction event. So then, which is the right diff for you? Helical LSD: + predictable and well mannered on the street. You won’t know when it’s working but you’ll have less wheel spin, better handling and increased traction in the corners. + no wearing parts. They don’t need rebuilding - not as much performance gain verses the clutch type. - not tuneable, meaning set parameters. Clutch LSD: + higher performance and grip over a helical meaning faster lap times/more power to the ground + tuneable to your driving style and power levels. Diff can be set up to be more or less aggressive depending on preferences etc - like a clutch, the diff does wear slowly over time and will eventually need a rebuild - aggressive on the street. Noisier (slightly) and makes the car more of a handful to drive at low speed corners. +/- You’ll feel the diff working. - increases torque steer on acceleration #hgg_melbourne
