25.01.2022 Thanks to everyone who joined us for Hidden Dome Book Club #01: Bruce Pascoe's "Dark Emu" on Sunday! Hope to see you at our next book club meeting in April: Hidden Dome Book Club #02: "Growing Up Queer In Australia".
24.01.2022 Tune in to 4MBS at 10pm tonight for Music of Our Time - a program curated by the wonderful Elaine Seeto. You'll hear some fantastic music by some of our favourite Australian and international composers!
24.01.2022 Update: Hidden Dome Book Club #02: "Growing Up Queer In Australia" will be taking place via Zoom and has been rescheduled to Sunday 10 May, 2pm AEST. If you've found yourself with a bit more reading time lately, we'd love for you to join us!
23.01.2022 Less than a week to go! Our third and final artist at Hidden Dome: Rumblings is Tiana Naug. Known for her work with soul outfits Tiana Khasi and ASTRO TRAVELLERS as well her distinctive vocal features with The Kite String Tangle and Sampology, Tiana is taking this opportunity to perform fresh compositions in a stripped-back duo format with long-term collaborator Rohan Seekers. Think jazz influenced harmony, raw vocals, electronic hum with a chance of dissonance. Tickets: bit.ly/HDRumblings
22.01.2022 Three days to go! We're stoked that Tiana Naug is joining us for a pared-back set to close Hidden Dome: Rumblings this Sunday afternoon. She recently released an absolutely dreamy debut single as Tiana Khasi - check it out below! Seating is limited in the cosy space at The Baby Grand, so we strongly recommend booking ahead to make sure you don't get turned away at the door! Tickets: bit.ly/HDRumblings
22.01.2022 We're delighted to announce that we'll be joined by Giselle Au-Nhien Nguyen at Hidden Dome Book Club #02: "Growing Up Queer In Australia" this Sunday! Giselle is a Vietnamese-Australian writer, editor and bookseller based in Naarm/Melbourne, and contributed the essay "How To Be Both" to "Growing Up Queer In Australia". Her writing has been featured in The Saturday Paper, Meanjin, Kill Your Darlings, Good Weekend and frankie. We can't wait to have her along - don't forget to RSVP "attending" to make sure you receive the Zoom link for the event.
21.01.2022 Our next book club title is the upcoming anthology "After Australia", edited by Michael Mohammed Ahmad and featuring featuring some of Australia’s most daring Indigenous writers and writers of colour, each providing a glimpse of Australia as we head toward the year 2050. Pre-order a copy from your local bookstore now and we'll see you in July!
20.01.2022 Things have been a bit quiet here since our last event - we're taking a little break as curator and producer Flora Wong prepares to head over to North Adams, Massachusetts to attend the Bang on a Can Summer Festival as a performance fellow. She also recently launched a fundraising campaign for her new commissioning project, Geburtstag - find out more below. In the meantime, we've already started planning for 2020 - stay tuned!
19.01.2022 Final update for tomorrow's book club event: we'll now be meeting online via Zoom due to weather. To receive the Zoom meeting link, please RSVP "going" to the Facebook event Hidden Dome Book Club #03: "After Australia" by 9am AEST tomorrow! This also means readers who aren't located in Brisbane are most welcome to join us to discuss the anthology "After Australia" as well! PS. Book-themed Zoom backgrounds are highly encouraged - do you recognise Flora's background?
16.01.2022 You may have recognised the artwork for Hidden Dome: Rumblings as another amazing watercolour creation by Ingrid Bartkowiak Art, who also provided the artwork for our launch event. She has some beautiful Australiana-themed greeting cards available on her Etsy shop, so if you're in need of some cards for the festive season, we recommend you check them out here: http://bit.ly/IngridBartkowiak
14.01.2022 What sounds do PEDAL have in store for us on Sunday? There's only one way to find out... Tickets: bit.ly/HDRumblings
11.01.2022 A great essay on our next book club title by essayist, critic, and Yorta Yorta man Declan Fry for Sydney Review of Books. "The Yield is about the elementary miracle of rediscovering oneself; of finding, in the neon-lit recesses of lived and historical pain, a home. It is about the history of this continent as told through the history of Wiradjuri culture. And it is about the fact of this culture existing as a living, breathing work in progress." We hope you can join us for Hidden Dome Book Club #04: "The Yield" on Zoom on Sunday 30 Aug - register to receive the link!
11.01.2022 Hey there, book club friends! Please note a time change for the upcoming event Hidden Dome Book Club #03: "After Australia" next Sunday 12 July to 10:30am. QAG is now open again with GOMA scheduled to open from Fri 7 Jul, so hopefully we'll be able to go ahead and have the meeting at the GOMA Bistro, but if not, we'll bring picnic rugs and find a nice grassy spot nearby! Hope you've all been enjoying the anthology - can't wait to hear your thoughts! *FURTHER UPDATE: This event will now be taking place online via Zoom - please RSVP "going" to the Facebook event to receive the Zoom link.
10.01.2022 Today is the day! Here's a little taste of what you might hear during PEDAL's set. (Disclaimer: it might be nothing like this at all!) The bar will open, and we'll have some nibbles for you all. Tickets: bit.ly/HDRumblings
04.01.2022 We're coming out of hibernation and are kicking off 2020 with our inaugural Hidden Dome Book Club event! Join us on Sunday 26th January as we discuss Bruce Pascoe's "Dark Emu".
03.01.2022 Guitarist Libby Myers has prepared a very special solo set to share with us this Sunday, featuring Sofia Gubaidulina's Serenade, Paul Stanhope's Dance for the White Spirits and selections from Amy Brandon’s Scavenger for guitar and electronics. We're stoked that Libby could make time amongst her busy schedule with Rosa Guitar Trio, who are preparing to release two debut recordings as well as tour New South Wales as featured artists with Musica Viva Australia's regional touring program in 2019. Swing their Facebook page a follow to keep up to date with their news, and don't forget to book your tickets for Hidden Dome: Rumblings as seating is limited: bit.ly/HDRumblings
