25.01.2022 Warm-ups. Love them or hate them, here's proof that even the pros do vocal prep. The fact that they prepare for each and every performance with vocal and harmony warm-ups doesn't exactly gel with the image of the rock 'n roll superstar, does it?. But, that's exactly why they sound as good as they do.

23.01.2022 Excellent question. Why doesn't everybody sing?

23.01.2022 Yes, we know the COVID song thing has been done to death. But, we couldn't resist. ;)

23.01.2022 Lunch Break, Storm Front, Newfangled Four, Electric Barbercats? Never thought we'd be associating all four of those in the same breath, but check out this comedy playlist from the BHS which happens to feature Australias own two time silver medal quartet! Apparently Fred and Metropolis (or even The Grand Angus) weren't good enough to make the cut.... http://ow.ly/NrfJ50zB5ps

21.01.2022 We've been a little quiet lately (no pun intended). Here's why.

21.01.2022 Here's a little music to start your day.

21.01.2022 Some useful mnemonic devices for the polyrhythmics capable among us? Hmmm, maybe not.

20.01.2022 Came across this one the other day. One of the finest choruses in the world, Zero8 from Sweden, teaming up with the David Wright arrangement of "Goin' Home". Vocal Spectrum do a great version of this on their album V, but the depth of sound generated by this chorus, and the natural acoustics of a church, lift this song to a higher level.

20.01.2022 We just found this article on what makes up the barbershop sound. It is nothing new for those of us who sing barbershop on a regular basis. But, for those new to the craft or even for those who just want some background, this is a really good start to understanding.

18.01.2022 Pssst... High Altitude Harmony are resuming rehearsals this evening. We'll be masked for safety, but seriously doubt we will look like the Masked Singer contestants. ;)

17.01.2022 Sunday School - What it takes to be a lead And no, the answer is not - not much! Last week, we brought you a clip from the ShopChat YouTube channel with a bunch of gold medal basses providing tips on how to sing that part better.... This week it's the leads turn (sorry Baris and Tenors there's no similar clip for your parts yet). In this video we have the lead from Power Play and Crossroads, Mike Slamka, four time gold medal winner Tony DeRosa, and Storm Front lead, Jim Clark. As always, there's some great tips in here for every part, not just the leads.

16.01.2022 Yup! Does this resemble virtual classes?

16.01.2022 So this one popped up in our Youtube feed earlier today. Anyone who's been to the Pan Pac Barbershop convention should be familiar with the Tokyo Barbers, but they aren't the only Barbershop presence in Japan. Haven't been able to find out too much about them, but apparently there's a youth based chorus in Sendai called Pioniere. This is one of their quartets - Vocal Tompectrum.... Singing together since 2013, this is a pretty darn good quartet, from a pretty good chorus. If you like what you hear, search Youtube for Sendai Barbershop Festival to hear some great performances from the chorus and a number of quartets, both male and female. Auckland 2022 anyone?

16.01.2022 Don't forget to have your say on our Membership Review Survey! It's closing on the 12th of May. #haveyoursay #BHA #membershipreview #survey

16.01.2022 We watched this blast from the past during rehearsal tonight.

14.01.2022 If you happen to come along to our New Faces night, this Thursday, you will hear us sing tags. You'll even be asked to join in. Don't know what a tag is? Don't worry, here's a demo. They're a great intro to singing barbershop.

13.01.2022 Those talented gents from the Festival Statesmen Chorus have been at it again. What a gorgeous sound!

12.01.2022 Don't forget our first BHA Live event is tonight! Join the BHA National Council for an online Town Hall meeting. Register now via Zoom: https://bit.ly/2yz0pF0

10.01.2022 Just spotted this share from the legends at BABS on singing while separated.

08.01.2022 Well, colour us jealous. We can't wait to get back to face-to-face rehearsals. Zoom's better than nothing, but definitely not the same. Hope you have a great time singing together again.

07.01.2022 Sunday School - A Barbershop Intro You might have seen, HAH is hosting a new faces night at 7:00pm Thursday 11/2/21, 7 Matthews St, Toowoomba. For those of you who don't really know what Barbershop is, here's a brief overview of barbershop history, the barbershop fraternity, and barbershop singing, created by a keen young member of the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS) in the USA, the home of the barbershop style.... He demonstrates singing in a quartet, and HAH works exactly the same way, just with more people singing every part. The singing isn't the greatest example of top quality barbershop, but it does demonstrate what we do, and that you don't have to be a professional singer to take part in, and enjoy, our hobby. If you are even a little bit interested, or know a man who might be, we'd love to see you. All ages are welcome.

07.01.2022 What a gorgeous sound.

05.01.2022 It's no secret, Crossroads is the favourite quartet of this Facebook page. We know we are not alone. That would be a good enough reason to show the next clip by itself, but the intro to this features sound bites from a number of great a capella singers taking about what singing means to them. For all of us who love to sing, and who particularly miss singing with others right now, it just strikes a chord, there's no other way to put it.

05.01.2022 This may come across as us being fanboys, but we don't care. Deke Sharon is a total legend!!! Seriously! Have a listen to this video on how important group singing is. How cool is that? Naturally, we agree completely and can confirm the positive effects of singing first hand. We hope all of you sing every chance you get. For those that don't get a chance to sing, get in touch and we'll fix that quick smart. :)

04.01.2022 We had a great turnout out for our first rehearsal back tonight. Sure things were a little different and singing with a face mask on was...umm...interesting. ...But, to catch up with friends we haven't seen since March and to hear that beautiful four part harmony lock and (slightly muffled) ring again was wonderful. It has also been gratifying that we are starting to get requests for performances again. We're taking things slow at this stage as there is no official guidance on what safe looks (or sounds) like or what our new normal will be.

04.01.2022 So when you come along to our new faces night, Thursday, 11/2/21, or any other Thursday night for that matter, you will hear us talk about ringing chords. What does that really mean? Well here's a short explanation from Barbershop John to complete our intro to the world of Barbershop. At the very end of the clip he really rings the chord. ... If you like singing at all, the feeling of ringing the chord, where your voice just disappears into the rest of the sound, is awesome. Once you've done it once, you'll want to do it again.

04.01.2022 Some sad news, The Newfangled Four have decided to call it a day as a quartet. NF4 won the international collegiate crown in 2013, and finished top 10 in the open division for the past 3 conventions. They may be fullfilling some pre-existing performance commitments once the Covid-19 restrictions have lifted, though probably with a temporary lineup change. ... NF4 have been one of the most popular quartets of the past several years. They are the only genuine barbershop ensemble to have multiple videos on YouTube with more than a million views each. With 3.7million views, this is their most watched video.

04.01.2022 Fingers crossed. :)

03.01.2022 Hmmm... We think they're trying to tell us something.

02.01.2022 Looks like our brothers from the Gold Coast have been busy. We spotted this today. Great stuff. :)

01.01.2022 Heart wrenching is a phrase that springs to mind when trying to describe this clip. Talk about having an emotional connection to a song. This stirring performance of Brother Can You spare a Dime? is by a quartet called Cheers! It helped to lift them to 6th place at the 2003 international, their only top 10 appearance.

01.01.2022 And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why Deke Sharon is considered by many to be the father of contemporary acappella. What a great sentiment. We hope you're all still singing every chance you get. We certainly are. :)
