25.01.2022 Long post... if you have the time to read and share your thoughts, I’d love to hear from you . I feel like there’s lots to discuss!! There’s so much hype in my circles at the moment about this film. I nearly didn’t watch it, but I’m glad I did. So much of what they speak of, I have learnt in my biological farming and permaculture studies and anyone farming with biological systems in mind is probably aware of the things they talk about but it is presented neatly here and brou...ght it altogether. A couple of things really stick out from watching the film: * climate change affects us all, in every way, whether we want to acknowledge it or not. Eg terrorist activities are linked to poverty, which is linked to desertification. * our nutrition is inextricably linked with the nutrition of what we eat. Depleted soils do not grow healthful foods. * farming practices can definitely contribute to drawdown, and as custodians of large tracks of land, farmers can help * we can all help to make a difference in our actions and choices * politics sucks However, I feel there are a couple of things that are blaringly obvious that weren’t covered or skimmed. * vegan/vegetarian diets often depend strongly on monoculture farming (as do poor omnivore diets), so eating more plant matter is only good if it’s not heavily processed, and well grown too. * small scale producers are better placed to adapt to systems to assist drawdown, but it’s labour intensive, and our foods are still too cheap to accomodate the costs of many of these systems. Already the picking costs of many crops weigh heavily on both farmers and employees. * farmers have been forced in many cases in the past by government regulations, economic pressures, and industrialised ‘education’ campaigns to farm the way they do. Large scale ‘feed the world’ systems have been established because they fit with efficient food machines. * no till farming is common place in countries like Australia, and has been for many years. Unfortunately no till farming has been sold with increased herbicide use and the logistics of farming large scale crops without either may be difficult to circumvent. I’d love to see more agroforestry models for food production. * the biggest contributors to carbon in the atmosphere remain global travel and resource use. We cannot go on with our heads in the sand, consuming and wasting, and hoping farmers will just ‘fix’ the problem. Everyone must play a part! In short, I feel the best solution in all of this is to grow what we can ourselves, plant trees and vegetation, compost, stop consumerist activities (eg say no to ooshies - don’t get me started), eat regeneratively grown, local produce and minimise waste. All totally achievable in our lucky society. Thanks for reading. What do you think? https://kisstheground.com

13.01.2022 Every time you put fork to mouth, you’re helping decide the fate of our land, our rural communities, and the people who feed you. It may seem a small thing to do (after all, everybody has to eat), but don’t be fooled. What you consume, where it comes from, and the way it got to your plate, matters. Lots of small decisions make big things happen. And at the end of every transaction is a person, just like you, who’s interested in sustainability, real food and the nutrient de...nsity of our food. And they’re truly thankful for the positive choices you’ve made. We are definitely thankful for our support and fab customers Great article.

08.01.2022 So, just like everyone in Brisbane at the moment we find ourselves in lockdown for 3 days due to visiting Brisbane over the weekend for meat deliveries. It’s so good to know that our customers have fridges full of nutritious delicious meat to help them through. It’s not so bad for us here, and I’m thinking of and feeling for those of you whose businesses have been adversely affected or whose plans for Easter may have to be adjusted. Let’s hope this doesn’t need to extend be...yond Thursday! In the meantime, take some well deserved downtime if you can or catch up on other tasks. One of my jobs is this neglected veggie patch... wish me luck! What are you up to? Stay safe
