19.01.2022 MERCURY FREE DENTISTRY Here at Highclere Dental Centre we care about our patients which is why our practice is mercury free. Why mercury free fillings?... Mercury is a highly toxic substance and constitutes about 50% of an average silver filling. As mercury expands with heat, the intake of hot foods and liquids can cause amalgam fillings to expand and give rise to micro-cracks within the tooth. Eventually, corners or even the sides of teeth crack off with the resultant loss of sound tooth structure. We are a mercury free practice. Your health and wellbeing are our priority which is why we are a mercury free practice. Highclere Dental Centre is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of dentistry and takes every precaution to provide all patients with a safe and hygienic environment. With composite resin fillings now having a proven track record it is no longer necessary to use amalgam. Do you want safe, tooth coloured fillings? Composite fillings are free from mercury and are designed to blend in with your natural tooth, so your dental work is discrete and functional. Additional benefits to having composite fillings: Composite fillings dont require as much of your tooth to be removed before being filled so you can maintain more of your natural tooth structure. Composite fillings are bonded into the tooth restoring the strength of your tooth. We carefully match the composite filling to your tooth colour so your filling will blend in with your smile.

15.01.2022 THE IMPORTANCE OF RUBBER DAM ISOLATION IN ROOT CANAL THERAPY The need to work under dry conditions, free of saliva, has been recognized for centuries, and the idea of using a sheet of rubber to isolate the tooth dates almost 150 years! In Endodontics, use of the rubber dam confers the following advantages:... 1.The patient is protected from the ingestion or, worse, the aspiration of small instruments, dental fragments, irrigating solutions, or irritant substances. 2. The opportunity to operate in a clean surgical field. 3. Retraction (very important for working in the posterior areas) and protection of the soft tissues (gums, tongue, lips, and cheeks), which are sheltered from the cutting action of the bur. 4. Better visibility in the working area. The advertisement of a famous manufacturer of instruments for the assembly of the rubber dam correctly reads: Do better what you see and see better what you do. 5. Reduction of delays: Patients will not have to rinse their mouth every five minutes. 6. The dentists are more comfortable, as they may work at a more leisurely pace. 7. Better tactile sensitivity during the cleaning and shaping procedure. Without the rubber dam, the dentists are aware of the risk of causing the patients to ingest or aspirate an instrument, hold the files in such a way that they will not slip from their fingers. The pressure they apply to the handle of these instruments reduces the sensitivity of their fingers and precludes the use of the instruments to perform delicate procedures. With the rubber dam in place, on the other hand, they may hold the instruments delicately, without fearing that they may slip from their hand. 8. The patients are more comfortable, as they do not feel that their mouth is invaded by hands, instruments, and liquids Patients increasingly appreciate the use of the rubber dam. On occasion, they may ask whether it is a new invention, and once they have tried it, they do not want to do without it in the future :D

10.01.2022 LEARN WHY DENTAL MICROSCOPES ARE SO IMPORTANT A microscope can be an invaluable resource to the dentist performing any kind of dental procedure whether it be endondontic, restorative or as simple as a scale and clean. With a microscope, dental procedures can be performed more accurately and more reliably using variable and adjustable magnifications and shadow-free light due to coaxial radiating light source. ... In general, magnification can be set to between 4x and 24x, thereby expanding the diagnostic options due to better lighting and sight. For example fissure caries and micro fractures cannot be seen with the naked eye. With the aid of a microscope it is even possible to view down the apex of a straight root canal. The root canal procedure takes place in a very small area of the tooth and requires expert precision to effectively navigate the roots and canals. Some teeth may have more roots and canals than expected missed canals can mean unresolved infections, which may eventually require another endodontic procedure, or even removal of the tooth. The use of advanced microscopy technology by a trained dentist can help make your root canal treatment successful, allowing you to keep your natural tooth for a lifetime!

06.01.2022 Good Oral Hygiene takes time a white smile doesnt happen overnight. Several small positive changes in your routine will contribute to this gradual process. Plaque, the sticky film of bacteria constantly forming at the gum line and on the surfaces of your teeth, can take time to remove. Brush your teeth morning and night, two minutes at a time, and twice daily

06.01.2022 Wishing all our lovely patients a happy and prosperous new year :)

02.01.2022 DERMAPEN PRP MICRONEEDLING FACIAL This type of skin treatment is unique, as it uses the patients own blood to harvest concentrated plasma, which is rich in platelets. When injected, these rich platelets release powerful growth factors and natural stem cells that are specifically designed to significantly stimulate regeneration and restructure of the skin tissue! Prior to the procedure a numbing cream is applied to the skin in order to minimize any discomfort you may experie...nce. Next, a small amount of blood is drawn from the arm. The blood drawn is placed into a sterile and specifically designed vial, which is inserted into a specialized centrifuge that prepares the blood for PRP therapy. The richest platelet part of the now separated plasma (PRP) is then safely and painlessly infused into the skin with the use of a dermapen (microneedling). This immediately activates growth factors and stem cells, triggering rejuvenation that will result in renewed, youthful and vibrant skin! For more information or to book an appointment please call us on 9343 9777 :) .
