25.01.2022 Country Women supporting Orange Sky Australia In September 2019 the members of the Country Women’s Association decided to make Orange Sky their project for the... year and have held events to raise much needed funds. With Covid this has proven to be a bit harder than usual but the members persisted and through various methods, including online raffle, and today were able to present over $6000 to Orange Sky. Some branches have also donated funds direct to the organization. During the lockdown members of CWA have been busy making toiletry bags and filling them, knitting beanies and mittens with these also being presented. Orange Sky Australia is the world’s first free mobile laundry service for people experiencing homelessness and was founded in a Brisbane garage by two 20-year-old mates, Nic and Lucas. In late 2014, the boys installed a couple of washing machines and dryers in the back of their old van and visited parks around Brisbane to wash and dry clothes for free. What started as an idea to improve hygiene standards and restore dignity to people doing it tough has evolved into something much bigger and more powerful. Orange Sky has since expanded to 33 services across the country and has been in strong demand with the Covid crisis. When making the presentation, CWA representative State Vice President Madelaine Thompson acknowledged to work they do and that members of CWA are proud to be able to support such a worthy cause. Due to the Covid Orange Sky will continue to be the project till September 2021 and fundraising will continue. See more

23.01.2022 A speaker at the 1936 Triennial World Conference quoted Benjamin Kidd, saying "Women's eyes always look to the future because they are the mothers of the next g...eneration. If women would participate more fully and more universally in world affairs, we would plan for the future more than we do now." Educating your community about the role of rural women in food systems and raising funds for Pennies for Friendship is a vital way of investing in the future, ensuring that rural women are represented in policy that will protect their rights and safeguard their futures.

19.01.2022 URGENT NOTICE - TASMAN MUNCIPALITY As Mayor of the Tasman, I ask all residents and visitors to please restrict all unnecessary travel. ... If Tasman is not your permanent place of residence, I respectfully request for you to return to your home as soon as possible. After witnessing today, the amount of traffic on our local roads, it seems we are not taking the messages from Government seriously. Just look at the top of your mobile phone, next to your carrier’s name - #StayHome. Remind your neighbours and friends that even our Tasmanian Premier requested this morning do not go to your shack. With our essential services currently still able to operate, the local shops and takeaways are providing supplies, this extra demand will place enormous pressure on these services and possibility force their closure earlier than expected. Please we can all do this. We have the opportunity to save lives by undertaking this simple act for our community, our State and the Country we all love. Therefore, I urge you all to act now and isolate before we are forced into a total lock down! Stay safe, Kelly Please be respectful we are already in a State of Emergency

10.01.2022 To date we have processed over 11,000 Applications and distributed of $18.6 million. Whilst many regions of NSW are currently in drought recovery, there are sti...ll many families who will struggle through this recovery for years to come and some families who are still badly affected by drought and in need of assistance. The CWA of NSW Drought Aid program is still accepting applications for drought relief from eligible families and will continue to do so as long as we have funds available. https://www.cwaofnsw.org.au/droughtaid

09.01.2022 Our challenge was to make some cheese so this is how I went. The recipe for cream cheese below had to be converted, I discovered half and half is 50%milk 50% cream. It took a lot longer than I thought it would but I didn't start with all the cream and I wasn't confident with the thermo so moved it to the stove.

09.01.2022 We're continuing to distribute drought aid to families affected by drought. Those who haven't applied previously can apply here: https://cwaofnsw.org.au/droughtaid.html

07.01.2022 Thank you, Tassie! The ABC's Rug Up Tassie winter knitting appeal has wrapped up, and the support has been overwhelming. We received more than 20,000 knitted ...squares from across Tasmania, smashing our original goal of 5,000. It's enough to make over 800 blankets for people without warm shelter or clothing. Amazing! Let us know if you've been involved in the comments

07.01.2022 A message from World President Magdie de Kock: Happy ACWW Day! I look at the History page on our Website and I see Madge Watt, in 1933, standing in front of a ...board where ACWW’s new name is written in 4 languages. I look at her, one of the founders of our great organisation and I like to think that I can see in her eyes her dreams and hopes for ACWW. Then I look at another page of the Website and I see in the picture of the Board, our eyes, our hopes and dreams for this term with not the slightest hint of a pandemic casting a dark shadow on our plans for 2020... ACWW’s early years were complicated, with many adjustments made to the operating parameters but I read Madge Watt’s statement to what became our first World Conference in 1930 said: Country women have begun to realise that their best contribution to the welfare of their families and their countries is not to stagger on under burdens too great for their strength... Today we are celebrating ACWW Day with millions of members all over the world amidst the danger and sadness and grief as a result of the spreading of the Coronavirus Pandemic. We should allow ourselves to celebrate our great organisation and to honour our founders for their vision even though our vision may be temporarily blurred by the current uncertainty. As an organisation we must raise the ACWW flag high above the current circumstances and one day, maybe 90 years from now, our descendants will thank us and honour us for the way we purposefully and zealously led our beloved organisation in April 2020 during a challenging time in the history of the world. With kindest regards Your President and your friend in ACWW Magdie

07.01.2022 Today is World Health Day. Today is also a day where we must recognise that in every country on this planet, doctors and nurses, healthcare professionals of all... types, as well as those who staff, clean, supply, guard, and otherwise serve our hospitals, clinics, and other medical facilities are under greater pressure than they have ever faced. Decades of near-global complacency over the challenges facing rural communities mean that they are being hit hard by the current health crisis. It may be that the numbers of hospitalisations and recorded deaths are lower than those in urban population centres, but the long-lasting impact, financial degradation, and societal changes caused by the reality of Covid-19 are yet to be even guessed at for women in rural communities. ACWW has been supporting the World Health Organization for many years, and we urge you all to follow their advice and to stay safe in this trying time. Healthcare is a basic human right. It must go beyond crisis response. It must be available to all whether they can afford to pay at point of service or not. Rural communities feed the world, and we are all relying on them continuing to do so. ACWW will continue to lobby governments through UN processes, pursuing fair and equal realities for rural and non-urban women. Join us, hold your government to account, and stay safe! #ruralwomeninaction #weareacww #covid19 #coronavirus #health #worldhealthday
