25.01.2022 Day 8: Happy full moon in Libra! Spending a lot more time in the garden...just me and Jack and the busy busy nature. This morning's harvest..my first grapefruit and a pineapple ! Someone beat us too it though, lots of hungry critters up here on the island.. New possum in the roof and we have one solitary kangaroo, who I'm sure will also be keen to reconnect to its community once the flood waters go down... #organicgardening #permaculturegarden

23.01.2022 And the adventures continue... The start of flood, this drive in a few days ago was pretty mellow. The drive out was way more hectic, hence being flooded off for 4 days now. Currently sourcing a kayak so hopefully Jack and I can paddle back in today #permaculturelife #livingwiththeelements

17.01.2022 And through the archway...this secret little corner of lushness is unfolding..the doorway to our outdoor garden bathroom! Creating the pathway to our bamboo spiral shower and fire bath - under construction #permaculturelife #outdoorliving

12.01.2022 Our green cover crop coming in nicely preparing a big garden bed for planting next year. Wynns Cassia and 'the good bug mix' from @Greenharvest doing their thang #covercrop #permaculturegarden

12.01.2022 When the road in is flooded..again.. I made it back in to Higher Ground tonight on dark...just! The choice is always 'do I get flooded in or out?' With some big rain still headed our way and the lag time of the lower Clarence, I'm predicting I'll be flooded in for a week...minimum. After 12 days away, exploring the desert with 9 amazing women and a weekend of Zen Thai Shiatsu with 20 peeps..I'm actually feeling super ready for some stillness and isolation.. with Jacky Boy of ...course. It's these moments off grid living comes into its own, as you are ready for anything by default.. (as long as you are well managed of course..) Plenty of water..ummmm...yeeaahh A pantry full of dry goods? Jerry cans of fuel for generator as the solar won't be charging? Gas to last at least a few weeks? Stockpiles of firewood Salad greens and random fruit and veg from garden ? Honey from the beehives Eggs from your happy chickens Great tools and hardware supplies for the endless jobs you can do in ISO? Freaking awesome dog for company Mobile reception and some great friends to check in with when you start going a little crazy? Let's just say if the Com's go down I know which side of the river I'd rather be on! #offgridliving #permaculturelife

12.01.2022 Day 5 flooded in ISO: Jack and I still thriving, not surviving on our island paradise so far... The 26 acres above the flood, living up to its name..the 120 acres of wetland below, also living up to its name! At highest levels the locals have seen in a very long time and still not dropping despite the Clarence river now on decline...This is nothing compared to what many have endured. The water is simply lapping at the bottom of my driveway, we are however at least 800m from s...hark creek! This was yesterday but the water is higher this evening. I can only imagine the chaos that has unfolded 'out there'.. Our recent breakthroughs include: Jack finally getting on the SUP and paddling a short distance into the water wonderland! (we are in training for when our double kayak arrives and we paddle out of here next week for some supplies) I've started designing a mountain bike single track that will run roughly around the perimeter of the hill crest (800m by my calculations)..so we can ride the bike round and round in circles and stay fit for any future voluntary or involuntary lockdowns. For now we are settling for riding laps of the top paddock. Our setbacks include: Finding one of our beautiful sheepies dead in the said paddock. Cause of death unknown, although seems obviously related to excessive rain. Burying a decaying sheep alone was definitely one of those 'toughen up princess' moments of my new farm life. The solar has also dropped out in half the house. Again rain related .. luckily I recently had installed an extra circuit breaker so if one thing in house shorts I don't loose all power..so for now I'm cooking by candlelight, which is quite fitting seeing as tomorrow is EARTH HOUR Hopefully your all getting ready for that! Otherwise we are AOK and loving the solitude..until at some point we just gotta get off the island! #floodedin #offgridliving

11.01.2022 Something's brewing in the garden.. today we landscaped some pretty cool stuff..any guesses what we up to? #permaculturelife #outdoorliving

09.01.2022 What to do when you are flooded in on your property? Dig a moat around your tipi of course #rainydayvibes #permaculturelife

07.01.2022 Caretaker wanted for rustic Off-Grid house on Permaculture property close to the coast. The solar passive, spacious home is set on 146 acres of protected Melaleuca forest, 15 mins from Maclean, 30mins from Grafton and 30mins from the beaches of Brooms Head and Yamba. The property is totally off grid with many rain tanks, 2 large dams for swimming and irrigation, and a large garden with many established fruit trees. Suitable for a working person or couple, we are inviting envi...ronmentally conscious people with an strong interest in organic gardening and being part of an evolving permaculture community. The right person/people will be independent and highly self resourced while on an evolutionary and regenerative path. They will be excited to participate in a sometimes vibrant and shared living environment on the land while still having the privacy of your own space. Being happy to spend time alone in nature is key. This is a clean living, non smoking household. At times we have a few like-minded international work exchangers passing through to volunteer in the garden. They have their own area independent of the main house. The private room is for rent for 6 months minimum, available in April 2021. Room is furnished, includes bills and has good mobile reception (but no wifi). Tiny homers also welcome. As part of this exchange you will be happy to contribute time assisting in the food garden and general property maintenance and coordinating any volunteers that pass through. In return you will experience a more connected and sustainable way of life. If you have great references and looking for a change of pace then please PM me to see if we have a good fit

02.01.2022 Day one of flooded in ISO looked like a bit of this, and a bit more of that.. #flooded #reddog
