25.01.2022 Thank you for all you do to make the world a better place. Well done.

25.01.2022 Many, many, thanks to the CSIRO https://wp.csiro.au/highettwor/community-update-april-2020/

22.01.2022 Wonderful and useful 30 minute trip to a grassland this morning. No news about our one. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=367254054328184

19.01.2022 Last week the Federal Government formally transferred the old CSIRO site in Highett to the City of Bayside following years of work removing hazardous materials ...and soil remediation. This delivers on a 2013 promise by the Coalition Government to gift the space for community benefit. Bayside Council’s plan for the 9.3 hectare site includes the development of new community facilities, including a library. Furthermore, 3 hectares will be conserved as open space encompassing the Highett Grassy Woodland. This will act as a natural habitat and will encourage the regeneration of indigenous species. This critical community project is a demonstration of what can be delivered with strong economic management and when our community works together.

19.01.2022 Have you noticed Noisy Miners? They are the most common birds of the Woodland. They are protected honeyeaters but they drive out smaller birds. We so hope that restoring the vegetation will cut down their influence so that lovely Pardalotes and other small birds will return.

17.01.2022 The Highett Planning Panel Report came out today and will go to Council next week 19/5 https://www.bayside.vic.gov.au//c160bays_panel_report.pdf

16.01.2022 Here's a pic that is not what it seems to be. Enjoy.

15.01.2022 The sale of the Highett CSIRO site has been settled! Within 6 months the Grassy Woodland will pass in the care of us, YOU, and the Council as a Conservation Reserve!

15.01.2022 Something our volunteers could help with!

13.01.2022 Uncommon parrots recently seen in Bayside. Hope they'll come to the Woodland.

12.01.2022 Don't confuse Noisy Miners with Common (Indian) Mynas (Mynahs) that can be trapped because they are imported pests that take over nest hollows.... Are they still around the Woodland now the buildings have gone? Pic is from Wikipedia.

11.01.2022 New planning controls for CSIRO site. See especially Clause 43.04 - the Development Plan Overly https://www.planning.vic.gov.au//browse-planni/amendments

11.01.2022 Showy Bossiaea - pronounced "bossier" - grew at the Woodland in the past. It could reappear soon, especially as the sale of the CSIRO site is likely to be settled this month so that biishland work can begin. The picture is from the Westgate Biodiversity website, including plants available from the Bili Nursery there.

11.01.2022 Precious grassland! Part of the restored HGW could be like this. https://www.abc.net.au//fact/guarding-grasslands/12298092

10.01.2022 Wishing everyone a very Happy and Safe Christmas season holidays.

08.01.2022 This edition of the Banskia Bulletin contains a feature article about the Highett Grassy Woodland and a reproduction of the article by T.S. Hart, written in 1939, titled " The Yellow Box, and a lost Vegetation". T.S Hart was largely responsible for recognising the importance of the remnant vegetation and the need for saving it. Enjoy reading the new flip-book style Spring Banksia Bulletin 2020. Read only: https://www.bayside.vic.gov.au/download-banksia-bulletin

08.01.2022 The Highett Planning Panel Report came out today and will go to Council next Tuesday! https://www.bayside.vic.gov.au///c160bays_panel_report.pdf

07.01.2022 Congratulations to Sonia Castelli as our new Ward Councillor and to the other six Councillors who will be guiding Bayside over the next four years. We hope they will do their best for Bayside's natural heritage and shift funding so that the Highett Grassy Woodland will be rejuvenated asap.

02.01.2022 Lesley Falloon turns 100 on Saturday Lesley Falloon will reach the wonderful milestone turning 100 years old on this Saturday the 20th of June. Lesley has been a very active member of our community for many years and in many ways. She was elected in 1978 and was Mayor twice from 1982-...1983 and 1991-1992. Not only a conservationist Lesley was also very involved in the welfare of the whole community from Fairway Hostel, Hampton Community Centre, Life Member and President Sandringham and District Historical Society, Black Rock house, President Sandringham Aged Care Association 1993-1999, Sandy Beach Community Centre Board of Management, a volunteer at All Souls Opportunity Shop and much more.
