24.01.2022 ANZAC Day 2020 will not look like the ANZAC Day that so many of us are used to participating in. There will be a Dawn Service, wreaths will be laid, the last po...st will be played, a minute of silence in memory of the fallen will be observed, but the service community and the public will be asked to stay at home. This does not mean that ANZAC Day is cancelled. It just means that ANZAC Day will be different. In 2020, on April 25, while you can't go to the Shrine of Remembrance or a local Dawn Service, the RSL is asking that instead you #STANDTO. As the Last Post is played during the ANZAC Day Dawn Service walk outside, stand in your yard, driveway, or on your balcony and observe a minute of silence in respect of our veterans. Make sure that you snap a quick picture and share it right here on our Facebook page using the hashtag #STANDTO. Together, let's amplify our commitment to the ANZAC spirit. Lest We Forget.

16.01.2022 Today, Saturday, August 15, Australia commemorates the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War also known as Victory in the Pacific or VP Day. Due to COVID-19, the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Pacific will be the second major commemorative event that Victorian's are unable to mark by coming together at local war memorials or at their local RSL Sub-Branch. But just because we can't come together, doesn't mean that we can't commemorate.... Many of you would have watched or listened to the commemorative service from the War Memorial in Canberra or you may have just taken a minute just to pause and remember those who have served and those that continue to. On behalf of the Highett RSL and in unison with the Anzac House commemoration, Jordie Burgess (Highett RSL President) laid flowers in remembrance and respect of our veterans past and present. We Will Remember Them.. Lest We Forget.

12.01.2022 Today marks the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan. Each year on the 18th of August also known as Vietnam Veterans Day, we honour and commemorate all those w...ho served in Vietnam, including the 521 Australians who died and more than 3,000 people who were wounded, injured or became ill as a result of the conflict. The Battle of Long Tan, on 18 August 1966, was one of the fiercest battles fought by Australian soldiers in the Vietnam War, involving 105 Australians and three New Zealanders from D Company 6RAR. A total of 17 Australians were killed in action and 25 were wounded, one of whom later died of his wounds. 53 years on we still remember these brave men and women who fought our freedom and will never forget the sacrifices they made to protect our beautiful country. Please keep these brave individuals in your thoughts today. #lestweforget Images Courtesy: The Australian War Memorial

07.01.2022 Important Notice from the Highett RSL President regarding COVID-19 Members, Staff and Guests, In light of the developing COVID-19 outbreak across the world, obviously more closer to home in our state, I would like to inform you of the following actions to be taken by Our RSL Sub Branch. This is due in part to the State of Emergency declared by the Premier and with regards to our Club demographics within the older generations.... The health and safety of our members, guests and employees will always be our most important consideration, especially in these challenging circumstances. So, with all that taken into consideration the Executive Board has Suspended our Monday Night Members Draw and our Friday Night Variety Raffle until further notice. The Highett RSL Bistro and Bar will remain open for normal business. I will also note that on 16th March 2020 the President of the Victorian RSL released a Media Statement confirming that the public will be asked not to attend the ANZAC day services at the Shrine. The statement also confirms that RSL Subbranches should conduct a single service only and ask that the public do not attend these either. Instead he has asked that in lieu of attending a Dawn Service you tune in via radio, social media or television and take a moment to reflect on the service and sacrifice of our veterans and those who are still serving today. The most important thing is that together we remember our pledge as a Nation; Lest We Forget, http://www.rslvic.com.au//FInal-RSL-Victoria-media-release The Club management apologises for any inconvenience caused by this and any further action that we are required to take going forward. Please ensure that you review our social media outlets for regular updates (the Highett RSL Website, the Highett RSL Sub Branch Inc Official Facebook Page and the Smart Phone App for IOS and Android); as we get a better understanding of how this issue will affect us and the rest of the Country. 05.01.2022 Dear Members and Guests As required by ANZAC House, the Highett RSL will not be conducting a Dawn service and, unfortunately, I would ask that you all refrain from attending the RSL precinct to ensure that the strict social distancing protocols continue to be adhered too. We need to do this to ensure that our fantastic Healthcare workers get all the help we can give them and at the moment, staying home is the best thing we can do. This is a minor inconvenience when you cons...ider what ANZAC day commemorates. While traditional commemoration services are cancelled this year due to COVID19, the Highett RSL community are still encouraged to pay their respects on ANZAC day. At 6am on ANZAC Day Highett RSL members, as are all members of the Community, are encouraged to stand at the end of your driveways, your Balcony or in your living room, to remember those who have served and sacrificed and as a show of support for those still serving. The Dawn Service from the Shrine of Remembrance will be broadcast on the Radio, social media or television. You are all encouraged to take some time to reflect, during this period of uncertain times. As the President of the Club I will lay a wreath at our Club during the morning and I request only those who would also like to lay a wreath do so during the course of the day, whilst ensuring you maintain the social distancing requirements. Remember, those that went before us made the ultimate sacrifice for their country so that those of us that remain can appreciate our great country, even in this difficult time. Stay home, Stay safe. Jordie Burgess President Highett RSL
