I had been talking about this place for ages and just wanted to see it. At the time we were living in Townsville and we drove north to visit one of the best places I have ever experienced - The Undara Volcanic National Park. The Undara Volcanic National Park contains an elaborate system of lava tube caves filled with fertile pockets of rainforest. Watch... your step, you will find it hard not to look up the whole time. 19.01.2022 OUTBACK QUEENSLAND So most of you know I was heading out west for a little break. After a delayed start we finally hit the road over the weekend. Our first day took us from home in Toowoomba out to Mitchell. For some of this road is quite normal and local, but just before we reach Roma we are in the Outback. We stopped along the way checking out the bottle trees in Roma and watching the farm land turn to scrub. Our first night was at a great little camp-site outside of M...itchell. It was so lovely watching the river and enjoying the kookaburras come in and sit above us in the gum trees. Tomorrow we are off to Barcaldine, stopping in Charleville, Augathella, Tambo and Blackall along the way. This peaceful waterhole is ringed by striking red quartzite cliffs. It's sacred to the Aboriginal people who see it as central to the Dreamtime story of the Rainbow Serpent. 10.01.2022 Where do we miss? One of Vicki's favourite holiday destinations is Alaska and it is one of my top bucket list destinations. Alaska is home to Wrangell-St Elias National Park, the largest in America at over 32,000 square kilometres. This is also where you will find North America's largest glacier system, covering just under 35% of the park. The natural beauty and wide open spaces beckon us when we can spread our wings again. I miss the smell, the food, the sounds, the people. Sigh. Positano is one of my favourite places, yet I have never visited in the warmth of summer. Yes, we have missed travel adventures too! They way I feel about Italy is the way she feels about Ireland, it just calls you. 05.01.2022 The Outback Adventure Continues Day Three: Barcaldine to Hughenden ... Once upon a time I used to call Hughenden home, and I awoke very excited to head back for a visit. But first... As we had arrived in Barcaldine a little late we headed down to the main street to see the Tree of Knowledge. Barcaldine is one of my favourite places, with great pubs. Next we were off on the Aramac Muttaburra road. Within our first 10 mins we had seen kangaroos, brolgas, emus with chick's and wedge tailed Eagles. This would be top ten 10 mins of driving ever. After a short stop in the lovely Aramac we headed to Muttaburra. Muttaburra is not only the place of discovery of the Australian dinosaur the Muttaburrasaurus but is also the geographic centre of Queensland. We continued North to Torrens Creek. At the eastern side of Flinders Shire I always enjoy a meal at the pub. So a late lunch was stopped for. Sophy joined us in the beer garden. It still held all its charm. Another 30 minutes towards Hughenden is the Prairie Hotel. Lots of ghost stories and this place has had a face lift since my last visit. Then finally the last 45km to Hughenden. Time to set up camp with corellas in the trees around us. Tomorrow a real trip down memory lane

05.01.2022 Hi HTC Travellers Heading out on the Warrego Highway this morning just after Muckallala on our way to Charleville we came across signs for Kangaroo Jack's Wildlife Coffee Cart . Coffee, here. We just had to stop, you all k ow how much I love my coffee. All I can say is amazing coffee, real coffee. $5 for a large latte. Its open Monday to Friday 8am to 12 noon and it raises funds for the Warrego Wildlife Centre. They also ask for a small donation to help with the wildlif...e. Best start to the morning. We even met some furry friends. If you, or family and friends are heading that way please share this little treasure. 02.01.2022 Day Two: Mitchell to Barcaldine I love waking to a beautiful sunrise, kookaburras sitting in the tree above us. Time to hit the Matilda Way. First stop Charleville.... The Cosmos Centre and Secret World War 2 sights was on the list. Then time to head north through Morven and a stop in Augathella for a bite to eat and a close up of the beautiful art work on the town tower. Tambo was our next port of call with a visit to Tambo Teddies and afternoon tea in the beautiful park. It seemed just right to see the Black Stump in Blackall since we are certainly going beyond the Black Stump on this adventure. Our overnight stop Barcaldine is one of my favourite Outback Qld towns so we will explore tomorrow. A new plan for tomorrow: off to Aramac, Muttaburra, Torrens Creek, Prairie and Hughenden.
