24.01.2022 Have you considered taking time off, proper down time this year? Have you reviewed your team members leave balances? In a normal year, most employees look forward to taking time off work to enjoy a holiday. However, since coronavirus gripped the world, the chance to get away from it all has dwindled, as quarantine measures and lockdown restrictions have prevented people from heading away.... Due to this, many employees have been reluctant to use up their annual leave, saving it for a time when they will be able to make the most of the time off. This leads to concerns of burnout for employers. Some countries do not allow carry over from year to year, so there is the suggestion to allow this to carry over for the coming 2 years as there is such little time left of 2020. While many employees are working even harder to compensate for their furloughed colleagues, due to the lack of visibility in remote working, some may be overdoing it in order to be seen as productive. Businesses need to be intentional and vocal about making their employees take time off and disconnect in order to avoid burning out. And in Australia, companies face leave liability issues in banking and holding the funds for employees to take their leave. As a rule of thumb, employees should have less than 160 hours banked. Everyone’s ability to switch off and leave work at work has been compromised. Peoples mental well-being has been challenged with the factors of our changing environment personally and professionally. So I ask the question, what has been your approach to burnout & taking time off in 2020 with your teams? How will you review for the remainder of the year and carry over (if out of Australia)? It will boost morale and productivity and it’s our duty of care to our teams.

18.01.2022 Setting goals & objectives for 2021 2020 has required almost every business to change direction and become flexible in ways we hadn’t imagined before....and it’s working. Teams and people are thinking the unthinkable, and creating new pathways. It has also made us all (personally & professionally) realise what we take for granted can quickly be gone. ... 2021 is still going to be a challenging and unknown landscape. So how do we go about setting objectives / KPIs / planning our strategy? Don’t leave it, having a clear plan creates a sense of calm & is a great way to end the year strong. Here are some tips: 1. People. How are you taking care of your current team members? New benefits, working conditions, support frameworks. What is your workforce plan or change to team dynamics? 2. Overhead costs. Build into your team members plan a focus on initiatives on saving the business money. 3. Create short term (first quarter), mid term (first half) and long term. Or, instead of an overall 2021 plan, break it into 3 sets of KPIs. More flexible and manageable. This gives you the ability to have a multi plan approach. 4. Be adaptable. 2020 has provided leaders with a chance to examine how this crisis was handled and what to incorporate in the future. More agile leadership has been the key to survival and recovery for many businesses during the pandemic. Companies that could quickly pivot their operations experienced a lesser impact than others. 5. Use objectives to focus on transformation, fixing long term issues or process improvement. 11.01.2022 Recently I ran a workshop on Building Resilience for a great group of people. In this session, we spoke about investing in yourself. Now we all know exercise is good for us, it gets us moving, keeps the weight off & releases the endorphins etc. Many workplaces have a wellness program in place & the lucky ones have bootcamps or programs to invest in their people - and it pays off! This TED talk is fantastic & talks about the impact exercise has on our brains! Take a look....... https://www.linkedin.com//ted-conferences_the-brain-changi

09.01.2022 I used to regularly finish interviews with questions like who’s your favourite comedian? or something else light hearted. It brings a sense of self to what is usually a formal and rigid process, it also gives you an insight into them as a person. I’m a big believer of hiring someone based on fit and personality over the history of their resume or whether they have studied. Many skills are transferrable - with the right attitude and approach. This article takes it one st...ep further - and I like it! It shows flexibility, creativity, ability to think on your feet and what comes to mind first when asked to talk about yourself! https://ideas-ted-com.cdn.ampproject.org//the-3-quest/amp/

06.01.2022 And another new role - Partnerships Manager, based in Melbourne! Take a look!

05.01.2022 One of the most rewarding aspect of what I do, is the people I meet from all corners of the world. Before the world closed down, I was fortunate enough to get to Kuwait and see the new arena next to the Rafa Nadal academy and work with the awesome team there. Maya was appointed as their new HR contact and was navigating the crazy world of entertainment in a joint venture relationship. Together we set up policies that would work for both businesses, rolled out benefits and training. I learnt so much from her and her team! Thanks Maya for your recommendation!
