25.01.2022 Book Week Book Week is next week (woo hoo) and we're so thrilled to be partnering with The Smith Family children charity again this year. The Smith Family is a national, independent children's charity helping disadvantaged Australians to get the most out of their education, so they can create better futures for themselves. By giving disadvantaged children and young people the support and resources they need to achieve their full potential, their impact will have a lasting... effect on those they help today, and for generations to come. So for the duration of Book Week we will have a box in our foyer accepting donations of reading books! Please keep in mind when purchasing books that they will be donated to 6-11 year olds. Donations are welcome from beyond our Highlands family too . If you'd like to get involved but don't have children enrolled at our Early Learning Centre or College, please feel free to pop on in and donate as well! https://www.thesmithfamily.com.au/ #weareHighlanders

12.01.2022 "Reading to children even before they can understand words, teaches them to associate books with love and affection". Let us know your suggestions for great books below! We can't go past Wombat Stew and Oi Frog at the moment #weareHighlanders

11.01.2022 We understand that drop-offs can be challenging as a parent. For your peace of mind, we use a few methods to ensure your child is comfortable after you leave... 1. We acknowledge how your child is feeling and assure them that they are safe, 2. We remind them that Mum or Dad will return,... 3. Find the child’s interest to help them feel safe. It may be a book, a toy, a picture, a friend etc. Each child requires a unique approach and our educators are dedicated to providing it. #WeAreHighlanders See more

10.01.2022 Last Friday we participated in the annual Day for Daniel colour run! Day for Daniel was created by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and the community is asked to wear red, talk about child safety and raise funding for the cause. Thank you to all our wonderful teachers and staff who as you can see, had a terrible time with the red chalk #weareHighlanders

09.01.2022 Last month Toowoomba had lots of rain and the Pearls room had an activity to take inspiration from the natural world. They created their own version of the stormy clouds on our windows, using shaving foam, glitter, and paint. They expressed how they felt and what they could see through the glass. This was a wonderful activity to engage their imagination and senses. Lev Vygotsky, Soviet Psychologist, said it well..."lt must not be forgotten that the basic law of childre...n's creativity is that its value lies not in its results, not in the product of creation, but in the process itself. It is not important what children create, but that they do create, that they exercise and implement their creative imagination." #WeAreHighlanders See more

03.01.2022 What a day! Today Kindy and Pre-Kindy combined for some fun Aussie themed Book Week activities. There were emu’s to construct, masks to decorate, playdough echidnas to make, fairy bread to enjoy, puzzles to do and some wonderful Australian flora to play with and investigate. A fun morning was had by everyone! #weareHighlanders
