25.01.2022 Highlands Classics covers a lot of ground delivering Urals to the folk out west. John here climbed on board, started her up and headed off full bore into the bush. Another happy customer as Dolly would say.

21.01.2022 Well it is Father’s Day or was, but the work never stops at Highlands Classics as we prepare my Triumph Trident for our workshop in Gosford. Fitting a brand new... set of Amal premier triple carburettors and electronic ignition. My dad always loved the Tridents because he was an old Triumph man. So I imported this in from Baxter Cycle in memory of dad. Happy Father’s Day dad! See more

20.01.2022 Welcome to Highlands Classics. We offer a large range of services for motorcyclists of every description. I can't remember a time I didn't own and ride a motorcycle and now have too many to mention. Classics to new. Chook chasers to sidecar outfits. I love them all. Our website will give you an idea of what we offer. Cheers Phil highlandsclassics.com

20.01.2022 First flight in my Brumby 610 with this fancy EFIS, it is really sophisticated. Maybe I should have read the manual because the only two things I could find wer...e two analogue instruments, an altimeter and an airspeed indicator. I could find the flap lever but not the indicator. But it was a hoot to fly. It doesn’t take long to find where everything is but I was wanting to get airborne before the heat and howling nor wester sprung up. Now that I know where the EFIS is, I will leave it turned off and make the students fly on nothing else! See more

20.01.2022 I am a member of the SPAA and Dave the new president phoned me yesterday afternoon. Dave has lots of ideas about where we are taking the SPAA in the future. The... one area myself and Bill Lane have done a lot of work and research into is to be able to offer affordable floatplane training for pilots. Once again RAAus comes to the surface offering some very cheap options for floatplane training. Well the same thing goes for floating hull training. Dave asked me if I would have my list added for facilities available training waterborne pilots. There is a real shortage of such training. With the calculations made, Bill and I think we can nearly halve the current cost of waterborne training using RAAus category aircraft. This is an exciting development for us. See more

19.01.2022 Keen participants from Queensland ready for the first day of our 2020 Ural Adventure Ride a few weeks later than the original but keen to ride and enjoy the fun along some spectacular country roads

19.01.2022 The Twin Comanche just keeps on keeping on. Beautifully styled with bulletproof engines. Fast and slippery with seven hours endurance. We are getting quite a collection with five of them on the team.

19.01.2022 The eagle has finally landed. Many months of Covid 19 restrictions leaving the Brumby stuck in southern Victoria are behind us now. Sammy was waiting patiently ...to leave his mark of approval, but pretty disappointed when he found he couldn’t squirt the main landing gear quite high enough. Maybe he could borrow a ladder! Sammy will take the copilot seat and he is already reading up on the manual. See more

18.01.2022 Bill and I have done a lot of research over the last few months. I have chosen FloatsCz to manufacture the amphibious floats for my Brumby 610 Evolution. These ...will be shipped to Australia for installation at the Brumby factory in Cowra. Then we start the ground testing followed by the water trials. We are working towards factory certification and the completed aircraft will be used for all floatplane training. The aircraft will be fitted with reversible pitch propeller. I have about 500 water take offs and landings commercially but this will be the first in the RAAus category for me. So now the fun begins. Josef tonight sent me some photos from a client in Portugal. An Aeroprakt A22. - RE: Brumby Amphibious CZ Floats OK, Phil. It would be fine for me to start work on your floats early also, time is running and I will travel to Sweden (Summer) and USA for floats installation (Autumn). Yesterday was finished floats installation on Aeroprakt A22 for client from Portugal. Ground test flight was done here in Czech, water testing will continue in Portugal. Float size 1450lb. See pictures. Paul, be so kind and send me side sketch of Brumby 610 aircraft with marked COG position. Best regards, Josef Fillinger

18.01.2022 Now this is something pretty exciting and if you have someone you really care about, and you want to give them something very very special, an Airmaster is probably the best present I could think of, especially girls, they love this sort of thing, trust me! An Airmaster is not only an electronically controlled constant speed unit it also has the capability of selecting reverse pitch. What girl would not want to be able to taxi her floatplane backwards? this has to be the bes...t thing since sliced bread or a vacuum cleaner if you have one of those. Well actually I have a vacuum cleaner but to be honest I have never taken it out of the box. Just one thing to keep in mind, it is not a good idea to select the propeller in reverse pitch until you have landed and are safely on the water. In fact I doubt you possibly could but I’m not going to be the first one to try it! See more

15.01.2022 The Brumby 610 Evolution is a pretty mean looking machine. With the turbo charged Rotax 915 iS and 141 hp it is going to be interesting indeed. I’m not concerne...d about keeping it straight with full power take offs, it will be airborne in seconds. But I am curious to know how many minutes it will take to climb to 15,000 feet? See more

15.01.2022 Sammy and I are relaxing by the hangar on a beautiful Sunday morning. No better place than sitting in your own Ural reading the newspaper.

15.01.2022 Darren and I together are fitting up the first TSX 230 out of the crate. We are both very impressed with the quality. I left Cowra early in the morning heading ...to Crookwell on the Rugby road. I love the scenery. Going to be a lot of fun on my DR 650 too, not to mention flying my Brumby back and forth. We’ve been good mates for many years. Darren owns Crookwell Engineering. Just another fun weekend for Sammy and Milo. See more

14.01.2022 It’s soup cooking time again. A bit incongruous riding around with a Tshirt on and it makes Sammy’s eyes water, when he doesn’t wear his doggles. Mary gave me t...his recipe and said she’s had it for 96 years, same age as her. I’m glad she has finally sold her motorbike she kept getting booked for speeding! See more

13.01.2022 The sun was out today so why not pull a Speedmaster off the floor and go for a ride? By the way, it snowed in Texas. #triumphamerica #triumphspeedmaster #speedmaster #bonnevillespeedmaster #fortheride #sunshineinjanuary

12.01.2022 Pretty much brand new, this Hatz Classic can fit into the RAAus category but only just. That is my intention. But at +6/-4 G I would hate to think I accidentally tipped it upside down by chance! Its speciality is rolls, loops and hammerhead stalls, if ya like that sort of thing!

11.01.2022 Two out of three ain’t bad. The Urals are great mates but the Royal Enfield refuses to talk to the chicken shed. Sammy sits in all three of them.

11.01.2022 MY FUNNY BONNIE SHOTS: TAKE OFF, photog unknown #myfunnybonnie

11.01.2022 As if I didn’t need any further encouragement, In 1972 I was swept away reading this road test. Dad said I couldn’t do just nothing all my life riding motorbike...s so in 1973 I went learning to fly. It was a great decision because now I do nothing in my life but ride motorbikes and fly aeroplanes. Oh I do a few other things but they are in my spare time when I get back from the pub. See more

11.01.2022 The very first 750 Norton Commando went into production around March in 1968. And the very last 750 Norton Commando ceased around March 1973. I have both of the...m. I have been looking for both these models for a loooong time. Both have come from the USA and both were exported to Mittagong. One from me and one from Andrew Lidden. Sadly Andrew died a few years back. Yesterday both of these were picked up and loaded from my old friend Mary in her shed. Well Mary didn’t do the loading, I did. I’ve brought them both home to Cowra where they will live in the Brumby aircraft factory, along with my Triumph Trident. All three will be ridden regularly on the roads of Cowra along with my new girlfriend, also from Cowra. Well she will be on the back if she doesn’t slip off! Sammy’s best mate Boy will drive the tractor! See more

09.01.2022 This is my new baby, we came all the way back from Port Macquarie through driving rain and snow and 65kt cross winds. I was in board shorts and thongs but it di...dn’t worry me. This search light was used for Stalag 13 spotting escapees and bomber raids in the black of night. It can throw a beam up to four miles away. So I pinched it for my own use. When I flick it on, police sirens go off everywhere. Axeman will be too scared to come out of his house, I’ll melt his Spider with it if I catch him! See more

09.01.2022 I’m out of my garage and maybe five minutes later, heading north from Cowra when I’m free of all speed restriction zones. The big Suzuki DR thumper is literally... eating the miles. Even 50 years ago it took us forever to get across the blue mountains and nearly to Newnes before we got on the dirt. We used to dream of getting away riding from Sydney but it took us all morning. This is the life for me! , See more

09.01.2022 In for the 610 Evolution’s 100 hourly. The first one from brand new so not much to do. I am there but being the artful dodger I am in and out with the boys. They decided I was effectively useless! Well I am good at making cups of tea! And delivering new Urals all over the state!

08.01.2022 Life is never dull at the Brumby factory here in Cowra. My 610 Evolution has just been freshly serviced and parked out front whilst we set about retro fitting f...or some lights on a customer’s brand new Ural. He likes the old style and we painted them in house. I will fly out to Narrandera to pick the customer up and he will ride it home. I could take the Mustang being built but there is only one seat. The new Ural two wheel drives haven’t even left Siberia for Australia and they have all been sold out. Demand is out stripping supply almost on every shipment. If I ever thought of retiring (which I wasn’t), I am in the wrong place! See more

08.01.2022 New Arrival coming from Port Macquarie. I stopped off for a cuppa and bought a new aeroplane at the same time.

07.01.2022 Operation recovery has begun. I borrowed the Brumby transporter and took off in the early hours of the morning heading for Mittagong. This will undergo a comple...te renovation in the Brumby factory back here at Cowra airport and will be kept as the Brumby bus. Used for official transporting but not entirely. The girls will also use it for trips to the coast for rest and recuperation. As was pointed out to me, I can wear out even eight girls ganging up on me. They have NO hope! . And so the fun begins! See more

06.01.2022 Well I definitely said to Jeremy please pack and label this Commando it is going to Caboolture. But Jeremy shipped and I didn’t check the label so we are both a couple of silly Billy’s because it’s labelled Mittagong NSW. Is this now number six? I have lost count. An honest error, lucky I am NOT married. She would never believe me!

05.01.2022 My mini Mustang. Well not mine it belongs to Jack. He will sell it to me at a later date and I love it. Only a single seater but what a hoot! The engine is a 12...0hp six cylinder Jabiru, converted to liquid cooling. I get lost for hours doing things around the hangar then I get up to the top hangar and do the same! Then I go to the pub. It is a bastard of a life! See more

04.01.2022 A friend of mine just out of Crookwell airfield. He’s been building this for 17 years. The original 1917 Fokker model which the Red Baron flew. Exactly replicated!

03.01.2022 #AUK #vidoftheday Now that takes guts!!

03.01.2022 Many pilots flew the Twin Comanche back in the 60’s and 70’s, often on training missions. My brother and I managed to buy one needing some repair, over ten year...s ago now. It is still flying based at Watts Bridge. In fact my brother won’t give it back. Undeterred I advised John he can keep the Twin Comanche and I will go buy another one. The lines of the design have to be one of the sleekest of aircraft ever built. Slippery and VERY economical with a willingness to bite you on landing if you are half asleep. I love Twin Comanches! See more

02.01.2022 But seriously, thanks to everyone for your thoughts. Being my birthday, work wise I did absolutely nuffin’ all afternoon after lunch. In fact I fell asleep next... to Sammy on the lounge. So today I’ve decided I will do absolutely nuffin’ again. I’m spending all day admiring a retro Ural sidecar tail light and tomorrow I might look at the other one. Or maybe I won’t, I haven’t decided. Maybe next week, you don’t wanna rush these decisions! See more

02.01.2022 It was time to move the Trident up to our Central Coast workshop for a new set of carburettors and electronic ignition. This is one of my favourite motorbikes a...part from my collection of Nortons. Roy is our Triumph/ BSA expert and in the background you can see a Rocket III on the stand. My brother owns one too and I imported both of these bikes from Baxter Cycle. Highlands Classics is an international partner of Baxter Cycle in Iowa in the USA. See more

02.01.2022 Heading towards a 38C temp today. But hey it is summer and we’ve seen plenty of hot summers decades ago in Sydney. But out west the humidity is generally a lot ...lower. Evaporative cooling systems work brilliantly in this dry heat. And VERY inexpensive, running nothing but a fan system ducting to all the rooms. And unlike airconditioning you actually leave the house windows open for airflow. I have reverse cycle airconditioning as well but rarely switch it on, if ever! The kombi is now in the hangar/factory here at Cowra to assess the body repair work. I have lined up a reconditioned 2 litre engine to fit extractors and possibly new carburettors. The last one we did this to went up hills like a rocket ship! But eight girls in this one might slow it down a bit. See more

01.01.2022 This is what happens when you aren’t married anymore. You just can’t stop buying things, there is no one to stop you. But these are just necessities in life!

01.01.2022 But just because I have only one Triumph Trident doesn’t mean I haven’t got five Norton Commandos. And a few other things. I’m just NOT winning. You have to keep the balance right!
