21.01.2022 Day 5 Dementia Action Week - Technological aids to make things easier Here are some ideas for easy-to-use technology that can improve the day-to-day life of people with dementia. Dementia Australia does not endorse the use of any specific products. Digital talking photo books... Digital photo books allow you to store a large number of photos and record voice captions that can be easily played back. These captions can be used to provide orientation and remind the person of who or what is in the photo. Wireless key and item locators These devices make it easy for the person to find missing keys or other items by tagging items with a colour-coded receiver that sounds an alarm when the corresponding coloured button is pressed on a remote. Medication reminders You can use specialised devices or even set reminders using phones or other technology to prompt the person to take their medication. Flood detectors or plugs These devices will sound an alarm if the person accidentally leaves a tap running or can automatically open when the water reaches a certain point, which will allow water to drain rather than overflow. Create your own family digital photo book Couple sitting enjoying a photo album Creating a digital memory book is a great way to provide a person living with dementia with an easy way to access positive memories. Use our online tool to submit photos, stories and details that will be converted into a digital and printable album you can share with family and friends. https://discrimination.dementia.org.au//create-family-book/ #bsmp #bowralstreetmedicalpractice #dementiaactionweek

12.01.2022 Day 2 - Dementia Action Week: When should you give people with dementia space? If you know someone with dementia, there may be situations where you are tempted to take charge of what they are doing. Instead, try to consider how you can give a person with dementia more space in the following scenarios. Talking... When talking to the person, make sure you listen and give them the time they need to have their say. Planning When organising an event or activity for the person, ask them directly what they would like to do and if they’d like to be involved in the planning process. Problem solving When the person is trying to solve a problem, give them the space and time to work it out on their own. Ask them if they need your help and how they’d like you to help them. Not responding If the person isn’t responding to you verbally, be patient and give them time. Try not to rush the person or speak for them. Tasks When the person is performing a task, give them plenty of time and try not to take over or micromanage them. #bsmp #bowralstreetmedicalpractice #dementiaactionweek

06.01.2022 Bowral Street Medical Practice has had a new phone system installed this morning. We don't anticipate any interruptions to normal services but we are learning the ropes. Apologies in advance for any disruption this may cause. #bsmp #bowralstreetmedicalpractice

02.01.2022 Thank you and Congratulations to all our mask wearing winners in the Weekly Draw for a voucher to a local cafe. Every patient who wore a mask into the practice over the last 5 weeks was entered into the draw and our winners have now all been notified. Thank you one and all for your efforts to keep your fellow patients and the practice team safe.... Keep wearing those masks and maintaining social distance - we really appreciate it. #wearamask #bowralstreetmedicalpractice

02.01.2022 As part of our commitment to being Covid Safe we now have a QR code which links to Service NSW. This is particularly important for those accompanying patients into the practice as your name will not be in the appointment book. This can be scanned at the hand sanitiser station at the entrance to the Bowral practice. Thanks so much for your help! #highlandsgp #qrcode #covidsafe
