24.01.2022 TODAY 9-12 A rare treat for us, we have @lenamatata (@5sensescoffee barista trainer, national barista champs qualifier and all round nice person) in the saloon sharing her competition coffee from Colombian producer, Leonid Rimerez (3rd pic). This is very unusual as these coffees are usually produced in such small quantities that you don’t see them outside of competitions. We’ll be running it as milky and black coffees and Lena will also have a signature beverage inspired offering. This opportunity is only possible because the nationals have been cancelled (And because the legends @5sensescoffee love to share generously) See you soon.

20.01.2022 This Saturday (06/06) we will be closing at 11am to attend the peaceful BLM/ILM protest in Hyde Park at 12pm, please join us. If being closed for 2 months has taught us anything, its that (regardless of how much we love it) there are things in this world more important than our little cafe. As a couple of guys who were born during apartheid in South Africa, it can be difficult to reconcile our relationship with racism and systematic oppression. We have always seen people of... colour as our brothers and sisters but have stood beside them quietly for fear of saying the wrong thing or being accused of virtue signalling. Well, the time has come to loudly proclaim that we are allies and welcome whatever criticism come of it. Our world is clearly broken and it’s time we all agreed to do something, together.

13.01.2022 SIDE BY SIDE COMPARISON WHILE IT LASTS! When we think about African coffees, Uganda is not the first country that comes to mind. But why not? It’s nestled between some of the heaviest hitters on the world coffee scene, places like; Ethiopia, Burundi, Rwanda and Kenya. It has similar climate, soil and elevation. The problem faced by farmers is the lack of infrastructure and financial support systems required to push their quality through the ceiling created by historical norm...s and commodity mindset. Enter JENGA Community Development, a Ugandan NGO. With a focus on rectifying this problem and helping local communities, they created Zukuka Bora Coffee Company with the farmers as joint shareholders. Beyond the creation of local mills, they provide, tools, training and financing to farmers. And we get to taste the delicious results. Drop through the saloon for a taste and a chat.

04.01.2022 Nyarusiza is a cup of excellence winning washing station operated by Epiphanie Mukashyaka and her son Sam. Ephiphanie was the first woman to not only own a private coffee company @bufcoffee in Rwanda but also build her own washing station. Her and Sam now own and operate 4 of them with Nyarusiza being the first. It’s a real treat to have the fruits of such an industry visionary in the saloon. This lot, among a few other coffees, was roasted by our mate Henry Brinkoli @maddingcrowdcoffee. Once again, stoked to be repping an old buddy.
