02.01.2022 Structural Balance . Structural balance is a concept that is widely misunderstood by coach’s and trainers around the world. . Being ‘structurally balanced’, essentially means that the ratios in strength and flexibility between tissues is correct, with respect to the given activities of the client.... . For example, a Major league baseball pitcher will require enormous eccentric strength in the external rotators of the shoulder, to decelerate the internal rotation of throws. And a grappling athlete will require much more grip and forearm strength than a sprinter, as it is a major requirement of their sport. For the general population, norms in various forms exist for both strength and flexibility capabilities. . One smart approach adorned by many coach’s is to utilise a ‘structural balance’ phase when taking on a new client, comprising of many unilateral and single joint exercises designed to alleviate discrepancies between limbs and major/minor muscle groups. . However, a common mistake is to then move onto more specialised training, without keeping an eye on retaining structural balance. One tip is to always keep some form of unilateral and dumbbell work in the training cycle, to avoid increasing the strength of the strong limbs preferentially, and to also expose the smaller muscle groups to stimuli. . - Dale Hansford - See more

01.01.2022 How to determine your training priorities. One of the most misunderstood and mismanaged aspects of programs is the use and rotation of the appropriate exercises. Seldom do people know what exercises or muscle groups to place as a priority, consequently placing emphasis on already strong and tight tissues, resulting in impaired performance and increased injury. And even if they do know how locate priorities, the right rotation of those specific exercises becomes a conundrum.... In this video our Head Coach and Educator Dale Hansford explain a simple and fast way of determining where you are weak, strong, and what should be concentrated on. August 1 & 2, we will cover this and so much more on the exact methods required for fast, effective programming, with our leading two-day course, Principles of Advanced Program Design.
